  1. Slightly odd question, but is there anyway of telling what speed an interface connection has on Smoothwall? I've got an old (over 15 years!) connection between the Smoothwall and Router that I'm not convinced is Cat5e, so therefore want to test whether it can pass traffic at 1000mbs or not.
  2. From the email:
  3. Is this still the case? From my reading of the 'Clarity for the future' email you don't have to inform them by 31st of December, you can renew at any point upto or including 31 March 2022, or after that date if necessary.
  4. Teacher here has reported the issue is resolved, so most likely a Microsoft problem!
  5. Morning, Anyone else unable to distribute pages using Class Notebook this morning? All teachers are reporting the issue, either we get an error message of 'Something went wrong' or just a red cross. Be nice to know if we're the only ones or not!
  6. Just to add, that if you're a hosted school with ScoMIS or similar, they legally can't continue to host your SIMS without a licence, so April 1st would be a hard cut off. Well, unless you spin up your own SIMS server, transfer the data and roll out Solus 3 for a few months...
  7. This is why I hate relying on online platforms... Thanks for the heads up!
  8. This Report might help: https://schoolsict.co.uk/what-we-do/broadband-and-internet/filtering-by-smoothwall?view=article&id=2196:sims-attendance-sub-codes&catid=24 Or I think I adapted this report to give a spreadsheet with all the required data and sub codes: Educational Settings Status Report —
  9. Ironically it's these very tools that cause the issue in the first place. As standard I install the Lenovo System Update software and let it do it's thing. Now I leave out all the firmware updates, and will do for the foreseeable future... Thanks for the suggestions. Rebuilding Windows sadly doesn't solve the issue (and is a PITA because the laptops don't reboot properly any more). But I can try resetting the BIOS/UEFI and seeing if the Lenovo Forum has anything new.
  10. After receiving an 'urgent message' from the Lenovo System Centre stating that our Lenovo Yoga's needed to have critical updates applied, I upgraded the firmware on the Intel Management Engine Interface. This, as it turns out, has been a bad idea. Laptops that have the update no longer turn off properly, and will sit on a black screen until the power button is pressed for around 10 seconds or so. So this message serves a dual purpose 1, Don't upgrade the firmware, even if told it's critical, on more that one machine at a time to test (though of course, this doesn't affect every machine the same way...) 2, Can anyone think of a way of salvaging these machines? I've tried: Updating the Intel Software Rerunning the Firmware update (Windows doesn't detect the Intel Management Engine Interface any more) Running all Windows updates, including drivers Turning off anything to do with INTEL in the BIOS
  11. One question this does raise, how do you ensure web filtering for these devices? As far as I can see, Apps and Chrome extensions are installed on a per user basis, not on a device basis. Therefore if a student logs in with their personal account, no school apps are installed? Or do you put that responsibility onto the parent?
  12. Ignore me, I set the timers wrong and can see it will automatically sign you out at the end of the time allowed.
  13. Sorry to raise this thread from the grave, but how do you stop students from logging into their Chromebooks with their personal accounts Sunday evening, and just leaving it logged in all through the week? From my testing, the Chromebook doesn't automatically log the students out when the off hours time expires. I can't see anything on the Device side of things that would enforce a log out Monday morning.
  14. Definitely sending out that first one, very useful!
  15. Windows key, shift and S to take a screen snap shot is pretty useful Windows key and Tab instead of alt and tab to display what is open on the desktop
  16. It does solve a major bug bear I have with running an O365 environment on ChromeOS; the ability to directly save to the Onedrive would be a massive benefit for us. I'll be keeping a close eye on it for sure.
  17. Superb, no doubt I'll get an immediate response
  18. Is there a way to only renew for a year? Our MAT is starting an MIS tender this year, so signing up for the next 3 years isn't really an option for us!
  19. I should add, you need to do this on one end of the fibre fly lead at each side of the connection.
  20. I had the same issue, you may need to 'reverse the polarity' which essentially means swapping the connectors around (They'll look like they're connected together, but you should be able to split them).
  21. Millgate are good for consumables, and pretty much anything IT related.
  22. Just some quick thoughts: Have you got both versions of the printer drivers (x86 and x64)? Is your print management (if you have one) setup correctly?
  23. It's an absolute PITA. At the moment, if a file is shared with a student either via SMHW or Onenote, they have to download the file into Google Drive. Then they have to open up files, put that to one side of the screen, open up Onedrive in Chrome and put it on the other side of the screen, copy the file over, then open the file. If they just download it and double click it, it opens in Google Office viewer, or they end up editing the file in Google drive and converting it to a Google Document. It's such a shame, as it's so close to being exactly as wanted!
  24. I'm having issues installing specific apps onto our managed Chromebooks. For example, I've set a range of Apps to #Allow Install' so students can pick and choose which ones they want. For some, this has worked as expected (VLC, Microsoft Whiteboard and Sketchbook) however for others (Microsoft Edge and Clevershare) I'm getting nowhere. Is there anywhere in Google that will tell me why these apps aren't appearing in student's Play Stores?
  25. If there is an answer to this, I'm all ears! The best I've found is to install the Filesystem for Onedrive Web Extension and log into that. This then mounts the Onedrive as viewable and editable in Files. You can then drag and drop files from your Downloads (file size limit is 4mb apparently) into your Onedrive. Transferring from Google Drive to Onedrive through Files didn't seem to work too well though and it doesn't allow you to download directly from Chrome into Onedrive. It's too flaky for me to roll out to students, but I can't see any other options out there.
