This thread is begging for somebody to mention Unreal Tournament. When I was at school there were rumours that we had it somewhere on the network but I never got a chance to play it. Grrr. As far as I know you shouldn't have to much of a problem having your own LAN games. Plus it won't require an awesome spec to run it.

F.E.A.R. - One of the scariest/jumpiest games I've ever played. Motorstorm - Pretty good graphics, good soundtrack and a canny bit of fun.

Well earlier today we had an art teacher come in with photos on a cd and he wanted a backup making. The thing was though the cd was in such poor condition that it stopped the Unstoppable Copier. We've told him not to carry cd round in his pocket whether or not they're in the plastic wallets. We got the usual blank look. Then we suggested using toothpaste to try and buff out some of the scratches and maybe make it readable. So depending on how bad the bite mark is you may be able to buff out the scratches yourself maybe with toothpaste or T-Cut. Also the Gamestation idea isn't bad, Grainger Games also do this if you have one near you.

Right people, fairly simple question...which jetdirect card is compatible with a HP Colour Laserjet 3500? I want an internal Jetdirect card and we'll probably have to purchase from eBay due to cost. So far I think this will work (J7934G) and possibly (J4169A). Any info appreciated.

IIRC my Corsa was a piece of pie to replace the bulb, just twist and pop. Haven't tried with the Astra though, hope it's the same.

I think Ranger Guardian and Securus are now the same thing. Ranger Guardian/Securus is quite good for monitoring things, as it takes screenshots of the offending language or whatever is set to pick up, so you get to see the context of what is picked up. You can set different things at different severity levels and you can set a limit so that you can accrue so many points worth of offensive content before it alerts you. I haven't had a chance to get fully acquainted with it but it has impressed me a little, which with regards to Ranger is quite a difficult thing to achieve.

I disagree strongly. This choice of song for Christmas number 1 is quite apt. Think of it this way, Simon Cowell's puppets always clinch Christmas number 1 because Cowell pretty much controls the media. In essence he is "The Machine" and we are to be defying/rebelling against him. Therefore we are raging against the machine. Plus the song lyrics lend themselves to this, "F**k you, I won't do what you tell me..." Liking RATM or not I think is less important than ruining Mr. Cowell's Christmas.

Well I joined and do intend to buy but unfortunately not until pay day.

If we had been in charge or even consulted about our digital signage in the dining hall or in the foyer, we would save on a couple members of staff and we would have saved a couple of grand. But unfortunately we weren't asked. We even have ImageFlyer software that is easy peasy to use and do xyz with, which is totally unnecessary...why not powerpoint? Thousands of pounds get wasted in our school and our time gets wasted trying to fix other peoples mistakes. I know there are other techies around that have the same issue here.

How about space on your C: drive, is it full? This would seem to cause the copy/paste issues and may also prevent it from modifying the temporary file word creates when a document is open.

I am covered for breakdown through my bank account with Halifax, which came in handy when I crashed last year. Although it would have been better if the silly woman on the phone could have found my location. I crashed just off a fairly big roundabout right next to a road sign and she still could find me. Was potentially my fault for crashing and being in shock though, so can't blame some nice little lady in a nice cosy office for not having a clue how to take directions from me. Grrr. Lol.

Got a few quotes earlier for bike insurance. Had the usual £270+ from Bennetts and a few other sites. Got a quote for £129.17 through ComparetheMarket.com from Swinton, which I was gonna buy until the guy phoned. He asked me what I thought and I gave the usual, "It's a good quote but I'll shop around to see if I can get it cheaper...". To which he responds (in a fairly abrasive manner), "Well I'm surprised your not buying it straight away" I then got some more quotes and was then phoned buy a guy from CIA Insurance who had quoted me £169 online. He asked the usual questions like who my best quote was with etc... Then he went away and quoted me £130 with cover to ride anyone elses bike 3rd party. To me this was a no brainer. Lovely customer service and a decent quote, so I paid straight away. So in conclusion I shall ask, has anyone else had similar experiences where they have gone elsewhere and maybe paid a little more for good customer service? P.S. UP YOURS SWINTON

We've had Dell Optiplex 520 and 755s and they have been excellent, they are a SFF unit. We also has some uSFF Acer Aspire L100s which were absolutely awful. They suffered massive cooling problems and pretty much any trouble we've had with them has been heat related. My advice would be to get some test units in that you're thinking of buying and run as stressful a burn-in test as you can and see if they overheat. We did this with some IBMs and a couple of Dells and we found both stood up to the tests well.

Check for viruses, IIRC conficker does some weird stuff like this and also you might want to double check firewall settings to make sure you have allowed file and printer sharing, ICMP etc... HTH, Darren.

DX2000s are old machines now, probably just the HDD getting old and maybe the MBR becoming corrupt.

Looks like your MBR is a bit broke. Try booting from Windows CD and go to recovery console. Then run FIXMBR. From what I recall this fixes your problem most of the time.

Are you using a VB script to add printers? If so you may want to try commenting out the On Error Resume Next command to see if there are errors while running. This will at least indicate the line on which there may be an error.

Its not the network share for user profiles or home directories, it's the local documents and settings on the Server that I'm meaning. In there, there are local profiles that shouldn't be there. It's as if these users have logged onto the server except we know they never have. :confused:

On our Windows Server 2003 box we have some user profiles that we believe shouldn't be there at all. They are from student and staff member accounts that should never be logging onto the server. This is why we can't understand why there are local profiles for these accounts. We believe our servers to be clear of viruses as we have MSRT'd them, virus scanned them and checked for conficker and all appears clean. Can anyone shed any light?

Anyone done this before? Ordered a shell replacement kit with a tri-wing screwdriver and just wondered if anyone had any experience with it. Also will this remedy the floppy screen, which I think (if I understand correctly) that it may be caused by a bit of plastic that has cracked off from the lid, near a hinge? TIA, Darren

We have 7 installed. It gets past the rgruinit.exe error of Ranger 6 but apart from that we haven't noticed much difference. I hate Ranger anyway though so I'm kind of biased.
