AFAIK there are no MST's for them. Which is really unfortunate as when doing a GPO install using the MSI it doesn't include the tutorials. We find this to be a major PITA

Well our network does what you want it to do, although very poorly. It authenticates the laptop with AD first then once the user has entered there logon details it then authenitcates those credentials against AD. All this using a wireless certificate and RADIUS server, wireless control boxes and blank access points. We didn't set it up and TBH it has seemed to cause nothing but hassle, I don't like it. Incidentally I don't like the idea of mass wireless. Gimme a cable anyday.

I've been thinking about branching out on my own and having my own little shop somewhere but I don't think now is the right time for me. Although if I do it in future this guide will definitely be a reference for me.

Hi People, Basically when we try to view the settings tab in the Group Policy Management Console for some policies it fails to generate a report. This is the error we get: An error occurred while generating report: An unknown error occurred while the HTML report was being created. Does this mean part of this policy may be corrupt? We can still edit it but it takes quite a while to load which makes me think GPMC is struggling to read some settings. How can I check if it is corrupt? If it is corrupt how can I fix it? Any help appreciated. Darren

I take it you have had experience with them? Would be interested to know more as they have a centre near me, so that would be spot on.

Well it's been months now and we have stopped Conficker from spreading and we even know how to remove it by being methodical. Our only problem is now that we are having a problem with some of the machines are not being seen in the WSUS console. This maybe a different problem entirely because we have totally removed Conficker from the affected machines. We have tried the wuauclt /detecnow and wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow commands which have worked for other machines. Any suggestions?

Okay people, on our network we have Ranger. I have been asked by my line manager to sort out why he can't enable offline files or make any changes to it whatsoever. I have discovered this is down to some sort of setting in Ranger, not our GPO. Can anybody point me in the right direction? TIA.

I'd assume u haven't accidentally forgotten about any wireless access points that you may have installed somewhere. We did this once, wondered why bad crack was happening. 99% of the time it is a rogue AP dishing out ip addresses either because of a firmware issue or because it's incorrectly configured.

Just confused my line manager with the problems. Also don't forget about the Event 5719, which seems to precede events 14 and 29. I think I'll peruse the event logs on the DCs and double-check them for any related errors.

I have a Windows XP w/SP3 client connecting to a Windows Server 2003 domain. I can login just fine and use network resources like shared folders and drive mappings etc. The errors listed appear after start-up and errors 14 and 29 repeat another 2 times. After reading the event viewer error messages and some googling it seems to be because the client can't find the DC. Surely the fact that I am browsing the network contradicts this? The reason I wish to resolve these errors is because I believe them to be interfering with the processing of the group policy and if our policy settings are not applied correctly this may affect the installation of Sophos from the Enterprise Console. Any help appreciated, Darren

I think Rockin has summed things up quite nicely in terms of actions you should take. You do need to remember to alter the permissions on the scheduled tasks folder to stop the virus creating tasks to reinfect the machine. To fo this you can remove all permissions except (I think) admins, system and sophos. This should stop tasks being recreated.

If you firewall the machines using Windows Firewall and Group Policy it's a piece of cake to add the exceptions into the firewall. See attached pics for enlightenment. When adding program exceptions use the %programfiles% variable. Depending on how your GPO refresh interval is set then you should have it filtered through to all machines within a couple of hours at most.

I'm assuming your on about the patch for the vulnerability mentioned in MS08-067? We found that even with patching the virus returns. We don't believe it stops all variants of Conficker but simply removes a mechanism of infection. We have recently locked down all of the firewalls on our workstations to only allow the ports and programs we specify and it seems to have stopped (or slowed to a virtual stop) the spread of the virus through file shares. We keep finding machines with partial infections but usually only ones that haven't been fully cleaned and this is simply because our Enterprise Console is acting up (server needs a rebuild). If your machines have an inactive on-access scanner try re-protecting the machine and it may well fail, most likely due to the computer browser services not running. For this to run you must have the firewall service running. There are also other services that Conficker stops running such as BITS, error reporting, BIT defender and Automatic Updates (there are more I think but I'm not sure). Anyways, to get your machines protected again check the above services, make sure there are TCP ports open in your firewall for Sophos (8192, 8193 and 8194) and the Enterprise Console should squirt Sophos straight onto the machine. Failing that try installing it manually from the CID (central installation directory) on your Sophos server. If all that fails then to Google you must go. Hope that helps.

I think that if it's for a specific user then just bosh their profile. We have this problem and this is how we solved it for single users but when the machines started to display pictures for all users in this manner we had to reg-hack the machines. Personally we don't bother now, it ain't worth our time.

You're definitely still Confickered at the moment mate. We're battling Conficker at our place as I type. We're doing it without shutting the network down too....been going about a month maybe longer. Anyway, my advice is to shut down the server and boot it in safe mode > Sophos Conficker removal tool > Reboot into Windows (normal) > Check services and scheduled tasks > Check the Sophos conficker tool log (in the %temp% directory of the user you ran it as) and see what it did > If it couldn't remove the files etc... do it manually and then run the tool again.

Downloaded the demo last night and I MUST get the full game. Unlike previous UFC games the game controls are smooth and they are responsive enough to allow you to fight like your character. How good does it feel to be able to knock Shogun Rua out as Chuck Liddell?...very darn good I'll say. The opposite is equally true. I just hope they release an update or add-on pack that adds new characters such as Ultimate Fighter Ross Pearson who's from Sunderland I watched the Ultimate Fighter finale the other night and he was great. So anyone else got thoughts about the game?

I gotta agree, the DL380's give you plenty of power and they aren't all that noisy. We currently have 3 DL380's, all rackmounted. I don't think he'd put them in the ICT suites if he had a server cab with two rackmounted servers. I know in our school I wouldn't dare, even in a locked cab they'd be destroyed straight away.

If you haven't made sure your TomTom's software is up to date then do so. When I updated my Go700 ages ago it then started retrieving my entire phonebook from my SonyEricsson K750i. Also do the same for your phone, that is if you're not too fussed about a warranty because some manufacturers are a bit funny with firmware upgrades on your phone. Apart from that I can't see much else to do.

Id be careful about getting an LG based on the fact a firware update will improve it, LG usually don't release firmware updates unless it's critical...at least to the public they don't. I waited almost 18 months to get my hands on an update for my Viewty, although it was well worth it. MY ADVICE:Be careful about getting a phone and waiting for a firmware update.

No No No, not another I wan firmware for my viewty thread BUT I have flashed the firmware on my Viewty!! :D How much better is it you ask? Well I can definitely say that although it's no iPhone it's soooooomuch better than before. Touchscreen is better than before, slightly more responsive, the keyboard when texting allows u to hold your finger on the key and move it about the keyboard without selecting a letter until u release. I also have noticed a slightly improved singal on my phone, previously my phone spent a fair bit of it's time randomly losing the signal. To decide which firmware you want to flash yuour phone with you really should do a fair bit of research and YOU MUST make a backup of your LGAPP folder before you do it just incase you brick your phone. That's a valid point and it's why I don't personally fit the brackets but a caretaker or the equivalent (if not a school) should be more than capable to do so without injuring anybody. Back to my main point though, Advantex and KBR are worth a look at. Plus I think I'm right in saying that Aceda did our wireless setup, their customer service has been quite good.

We have previously used Advantex and KBR Ltd. They both seem okay but I personally wud have used a different installtion set-up to what they used. I'd always advocate for DIY if you have the time and a nice caretaker that will fit the projector bracket for you. This is because we once had a system installed that used Cat5 senders and it was useless. So we ripped it out and just used a 15 goot VGA cable and a VGA splitter w/signal booster. Best installation we have.
