My understanding of the licence situation is that none of the licences schools generally have will allow you to legally copy a commercial video. The ERA licence is strictly for the recording of broadcasts 'off-the-air' - it doesn't even cover you for use of recordings from iPlayer etc even if you could have recorded it from the broadcast. Then again, IANAL.

Hmm.... Well, I have just had my iPad 1 upgraded to an iPad 3 as a gift, and although the extra speed is nice and the screen is razor sharp, I've come to the conclusion that if I could afford an Ultrabook, it would be so much more useful to me. As has been said, the iPad is good for content consumption (mainly, although there is still quite a lot of the web that doesn't work well) but anything more than that becomes a complete headache. Even compared to my Android phone. For example, with my HTC, I can print web pages, attachments, photos etc straight to my networked HP OfficeJet printer with no hassles, but it wont work with the iPad because it's not on the special list of AirPrint printers. I like the size/weight, the portability and the battery life, hence the Ultrabook desire, but I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with its shortcomings. Hopefully this is where the Surface with Windows 8 Pro is going to come into its own...

The Nexus 7 certainly won't do Flash - it uses the new Android 4.1 which Adobe won't support Flash on.

Not from that company, but we tried compatible lamps in our old Epson projectors. Of the 4 that we had, two of them performed OK (although not been in long enough to comment on life) and the other two are pathetically dim - in fact, dimmer than the Epson lamps which were life expired at 2000hrs+ use. We went back to originals despite the extra cost.

I think some sort of limit for new drivers is a good idea, but I'd suggest that 1000cc is a bit too low. Cars with engines that small tend to be horribly unresponsive and although you don't want a new driver having too much power, they would probably benefit from having a bit of 'grunt' available to hopefully get themselves out of some of the inevitable bad decisions. For example, pulling out into a gap that's a little bit too small, if you have some power available you can get on the move and out of the way quickly, but in a 1l car, you'll be sitting there waiting for something to happen while the car behind careers towards you. Perhaps 1400 would be a better compromise, and a bit bigger (maybe 1700) for diesel.

Try FuelLog - the free version is quite good. Just enter mileometer reading, litres and total amount and it'll track MPG, fuel cost over time etc. Really only works if you fill the tank each time though.

Is anyone using Kodu in their schools? Our ICT Department has started teaching it this half term, and we are finding it to be very crashy and having quite a lot of glitches. I was wondering if anyone else has found the same, and if anyone has found a solution to improve it? Cheers all.

What are people doing about management of App purchases on multiple iPads? I've seen lots of mentions across t'internet of people syncing apps to 20-30 iPads from 1 iTunes account, cloning with backups etc. Surely this isn't OK licensing-wise for purchased apps? We have less than 10 here currently, but we have opted to set them all up with individual Apple IDs which is a royal pain, but we can't see how else to deal with the legality of app purchases. Would be interested to hear other peoples ideas on this.

I used to run an old laptop as a small NAS at home and so that was on 24/7 without any issue. As with yours, that had a knackered battery.

Good company? Really? After a bad experience, I wouldn't advise touching Virgin CC with a bargepole. In short, they shifted my statement date so in their eyes my SO payment arrived late, so they clobbered me with a default charge and withdrew my 'promotional' 0% rate. When I complained, they told me it was my fault as I should have checked the statement date. And the only reason I was paying by standing order anyway was because their system is too naff to allow a specific amount to be paid by DD.

Wrong version of comdlg32.dll on the machine? Have you tested the RAM on the machine?

It's worth getting the Component cable for connecting the Wii to a TV if you have the right inputs - it doesn't improve the resolution any, but it does avoid the fuzzy interference you get on the picture when using the ordinary composite cable. They can be picked up quite cheaply from CPC if I remember rightly when I got mine.

Let's see if the collective EduGeek brains can figure this one out! My wife has got an HTC Desire running Android 2.2 and thanks to updates and things, is now completely out of internal storage space with nothing she doesn't want that she can remove. Now, the Desire has got pitiful internal storage (about 150MB) and we have already moved all we can to the SD card. So, I am now at the point of suggesting rooting the phone and flashing a custom ROM so that the 'internal storage' can be shipped out to a partition on the SD card. What I'm after is some suggestions of a good ROM to use that has this feature. I know there are quite a few to be found online, but I'm hoping for some personal experience of them to make a good choice. Thanks all, Chris

I have the HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio technology and that sounds pretty awesome with the bundled iBeats earphones.

Mixed experience here with Glasses Direct. My Dad bought some simple ones which were fine and he was happy with them. However, I have a complex prescription involving prisms and the experience was different... Ordered and all went through online for about £30 ish, but a couple of hours later got a phone call, "oh, you need prisms? That'll be £50 extra per lens!" So making them more expensive than the high street which doesn't charge any extra for prisms. I'd say if you have a simple prescription it's worth a punt, but beware if you need something a little more complicated.
