Hi, Having received my new HTC Sensation XE today, I am offering my two-month old San Fran 2 / ZTE Blade 2 for sale. It's an entry level Android with a 3" screen, 800MHz processor, 160MB app storage and front and rear cameras. Also comes a 2GB microSD card. It is fully unlocked, rooted and debranded running a plain Android 2.3 custom ROM. Has only been used since 2nd Jan while waiting for my upgrade. In good condition although has some scratches on the back panel - its gloss plastic so happen easily. Phone is boxed with charger, USB.cable, unused headset and unused Orange SIM with just over £15 credit. Will also throw in a new basic black faux-leather belt pouch which fits the phone. Indeed, that was really the only complaints we had about the system. Some teachers really were not (some still aren't) comfortable with not being able to do that!

There are different options. The way we do it, the parents have to enter the correct student name and form group (this is validated) and their name and contact details are collected at first use. Subsequent logins with the same details then give access to previous bookings etc.

We use it here and it has been very successful. We are now on our 5th or so parents evening using it and it is going very well. Their support is first class with near-immediate response and they are continually adding improvements to the system. New for the last evening we ran was an option for parents to leave feedback on the system, and we have had very positive responses in general. Previously we used a system where students had to take a sheet of paper around the various teachers to book appointments, so it is a vast improvement on that.

That's a pet hate of mine - you are 'chatting' with a real person through one of those online assistant things, and then you get to a certain point and they make you ring up and try to convey information to someone verbally that would have been a lot easier and clearer to type. Arrgghh!

I had one at home that did this - was in warranty originally and Kodak swapped the printhead out and it worked again for a bit. We then bought a new printhead and it worked for a couple of days but then stopped again. My conclusion was the capping mechanism must have failed and was allowing the black printhead to dry out.

As part of my clearout, I am selling off my little Panasonic SDR-S7 pocket SD camcorder. The camera features a 2.7" widescreen colour LCD display, 10x optical zoom and exchangeable Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery. The camera is in excellent condition and has had only light use. I am selling due to receiving a Sony HD Handycam as a Christmas gift so I no longer need this one. It's small size makes it ideal to keep in a pocket ready to grab those film-worthy moments when out and about. This is an ideal YouTube or blog camera. Records reasonable quality SD video to an SD/SDHC memory card. The camera will be supplied boxed, with the original manuals and software CD. It will also come with the battery, charger, handstrap, USB cable and a Panasonic 4GB SDHC memory card offering nearly an hour of recording at high quality settings. Having a clear out, so for sale is this lovely example of the great FujiFilm s9500 Bridge Camera. It's a 9.0MP camera, with a huge 28-300mm (35mm equivalent) optical zoom range, with macro capability (focus from 10mm at wide setting). The bridge camera design incorporates many of the features of a digital SLR, but has an electronic viewfinder and non-interchangeable lens. It has a wide variety of advanced settings, as well as a good automatic mode and records VGA video. Full autofocus, with ring for manual mode. Manual zoom, just like an SLR. Excellent condition, has only had light use. I bought it for my Dad, who decided to take photography course shortly after and upgraded to a D-SLR, so that is the only reason for sale. It is not boxed but will come well packed for transport. Will be supplied complete with Fujifilm neck strap, original Finepix lens cover and hood, Mini USB cable and a 1GB CompactFlash memory card. There is no software CD or video out cable with this camera and you will need 4 AA alkaline batteries. Try plugging a separate monitor into the video port in the 'cave' at the back and see if you get a display. We have a number of RM One's doing something similar and it is actually caused by failed motherboards or PSUs - so it's not the video system at fault, it's just that the machines aren't doing anything. Do they show signs of booting? Beeps? Hard Disk Access?

On a v2 I presume? Yeah, remove the back panel. Remove the 3 screws down each side that hold on the side panels and remove those. Careful, the clips at the front of each side panel are tight and snap easily! At the top of the machine you will see 3 or 4 screws holding the silver panel which wraps over the top and front of the machine. Remove these, then the silver panel will slide upwards and detach. This then exposes the cabling and attachments of the screen assembly. It's not easy, but not too difficult either if that makes sense. Getting the silver panel clipped back on in the right place is tricky when re-assembling though. Good luck :-) Just to add for others trying to access various parts of the RM One (v2), if you lay it on it's back you will find about 7 or 8 screws on the base. If you remove these and then remove the baseplate and rollers, you will be able to slide down and lift up the lower part of the silver panel at the front (where the power switch and USB ports are). Lifting up gently will give you access to disconnect the port cables and you can remove the panel completely which gives much easier access to the 3.5" and 5.25" bays and allows you to route cables etc more easily. Be careful standing the machine up once this front panel is removed though - it loses almost all of it's stability and will fall forwards very easily!

Hi, Just wondering if there is any chance of getting an Edugeek Search plugin for the search bar in Firefox? Have looked at the IE method for adding search engines which don't have a plug in but I don't think that will work because Edugeek doesn't seem to pass the search query and parameters in the URL. Would be very useful though! :-)

We have a lot of 4-5 year old RM One machines with Intel motherboards and they are all slowly dying due to motherboard and/or PSU failure. We haven't yet worked out which one causes the other to die.

1. We have a few kindles - about a class set 2. It depends. As the Kindles stand at the moment no - they are too difficult to manage. Getting books to them is a hassle, using purchased books is too complicated to manage for a set of devices, they can't be 'locked down' to prevent fiddling and we have found they don't work well with enterprise networks (eg. no proxy support). If these issues could be solved, they would be great but as it stands there are too many hurdles. I don't have experience with non-Kindle e-readers so they may address these issues, but I suspect then suffer with the difficulty of finding content for them. 3. I can see e-publications being used on iPads and tablet devices in the future

We had the same thing - over 2 months without internet and phone because Sky wouldn't relinquish their hold over the line. And after over a month, the best BT would offer us was a Vodafone dongle - useful when the house is in an area with absolutely no Vodafone signal!!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. However, I'm pretty set on it being Android if not the iPhone. I just don't like the look of Windows Phone I'm afraid! Any Android suggestions out there - my wife has a Desire which made me consider HTC, but their range is pretty uninspiring at the moment, as @glennda said! Cheers

Well it's that time - phone contract due for upgrade on the 18th February, so trying to decide what to get. I have used iPhones (3G then 3GS) for the last 3.5 years, but am underwhelmed by the features of the new 4S and finding it hard to justify the price. I've been playing with Android on an unlocked Orange San Francisco II with a 2.3 vanilla ROM for a few weeks and I think Android is the way I want to go. So, what handsets do the EduGeek gang recommend? I'm looking for something for the usual apps, e-mail, Internet, Facebook that sort of thing. Looking for decent performance, not too big (4.5" screen seems stupidly big coming from an iPhone) and Android without too much bloat or manufacturer crapware. Any suggestions for what's good? Cheers :-)

I've just had an e-mail from Apple to say my replacement iPod is on it's way. Checked the serial number, and bonus - it's a 6th Gen replacement!! Better still, checked the tracking and it was out for delivery today. About 5 minutes later, got text from my wife to say it had arrived. Much playing for me tonight methinks.
