We're currently trialling this system: Parents Evening System - Online Parents Evening Software It seems quite good, they've been very responsive about questions and suggestions we've had. The only small issue we've had is getting the export data out of SIMS in the right format is tricky. The proof will be in the pudding after Easter though when we let loose on parents booking!

I'm about 9.5 miles from work, which at the times I go is 25-30mins from house door to office door by car, and about £65-70 a month in petrol. However, I'm also about 7 minutes walk from home train station, work is 7 minutes from station at that end with an 8 minute train ride in between - so time-wise much the same. Difference is, with 20% LA staff discount, train only costs £45 a month! So train isn't always more expensive!!

We use Behringer MS16 Speakers in most of our rooms. They give a good sound and seem reliable. They cost around the £40 mark - we normally get ours from CPC. You do need to buy mounting brackets for these though. HTH

Also be aware that you can't get 2008 Remote Server Admin Tools for Windows XP which can be a pain - especially if you are managing XP clients and want to use any of the settings where you need to import from a workstation e.g. setting Trusted Sites via Group Policy.

Wow, how we would love the be in the position of thinking about replacing Core 2 Duo machines! We've got 1.7GHz P4 generation (Skt 478) Celerons still in service here with no money to plan to replace them! The i3 plan sounds awesome though :-)

We've had the same issue with our systems - that was a SID issue because they had been ghosted without being sysprepped first. Apparently, WSUS still works with those machines, it's just that WSUS Console only gets one entry per SID - so if multiple machines have the same SID, only one of them will appear in the list. HTH

Yes, have to say sleep now while you can, you'll miss it! Seriously though, be involved with as much as you can - go to all the scans, appointments etc that you can. I know it's not easy with work, but it makes it all so much better for you both if you can. And when the big time comes, make sure you've had lots of rest in the run up and remember to look after yourself too.

We have just gone the CC3 to Vanilla route and you need to think carefully about how you are replacing a lot of the things which are standard in CC3 but not included in a standard vanilla install - imaging/build solution, Auditor, SmartCache, print credit management, RM Tutor etc. This wasn't thought about at our place and we are now suffering the consequences.

I'll prepare to be flamed here, but I feel that the rule of sticking in the left-hand lane of the motorway as a default is stupid. If everyone is packed into that left-hand lane, and lanes 2 & 3 are relatively empty, how the hell are people meant to join the motorway at slip-roads? And as far as I am concerned, weaving from lane 1 to lane 2 and back again every time you encounter a lorry or other slower vehicle is more of a risk than making steady progress staying in a lane with vehicles running at a similar speed. Would it not make more sense all around for lane 1 to be for slow vehicles and those joining or leaving the M-way, lane 2 to be the 'default lane' for regular speed vehicles and then lane 3 be for overtaking?

I could be wrong, but if you are not going to be using freeview, the USB record function won't be any use to you anyway as it just records the data stream from the digital tuner. That's how my TV with USB record works anyway - can't record anything other than from the internal DVB-T (freeview) tuner.

The laptop hasn't had a home version of Norton Internet Security installed has it? I've had exactly that problem before - internet connection fine, but Norton is set by default to block all other network traffic. A pain, but easy to solve once you figure out that's the problem!

Dear All, With the forthcoming release of the Sandy Bridge i5's my thoughts are turning to a PC upgrade. I am currently running a 20" Aluminium iMac, but exclusively use Windows 7 now through Boot Camp so am thinking about selling the iMac to fund the upgrade. I've seen a few on eBay which has put a price idea in my mind, but wondered what you fine people here thought would be the market value. The machine is specced as follows: Intel Core 2 Duo E8335 2.6GHz, 2Gb RAM, 320Gb Hard Disk, ATI Radeon HD 2600XT Graphics. Would be selling loaded with OS X Snow Leopard, Office Mac 2008 and Adobe CS4 Web Premium (Photoshop, Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Contribute, SoundBooth) with discs and licences included. eBay listings suggest that a figure of around £500 would be acheivable. Hi, Trying to save myself here! I was meant to record Britain's Trillion Pound Horror Story from Channel 4 last night for one of our Business Studies teachers but I messed up the recording schedule and didn't get the programme I was wondering if any of you have a recording of the programme that you would be prepared to let me have a copy of? Our SIMS here uses the motherboard 'speaker' or beeper to play the 'You have a new message' alert beeps. I think it must be a 'feature' of SIMS that it uses that audio system rather than the actual Windows/Soundcard interfaces.

We recently used PRM Green Technologies (PRM Green Technologies Ltd - Free IT Disposal & Recycling for all - Welcome) to collect a load of redundant equipment, and they took some lamps away for us with our equipment. Service was good, and because we had enough stuff, it was free.

Is there a version of Google Calendar Sync for Mac? That works well with Outlook - just syncs the calendar with a Google calendar and keeps it in sync at the intervals you specify.

Hi all, I have been tasked with working out how to get an RSS feed from the Site News forum on the front page of Moodle. From the details on moodle.org, I have worked out how to turn on RSS for the site, and then for Forums, but I can't find the final option I need to activate RSS for the front page 'Site News' forum. Does anyone know how to do this?? Thanks, Chris
