Every so often we run through the Spooks box sets - I've got them nearly all, except the couple before the last series when it was all about Lucas North and got a bit weird. Well back on form for the last series though. I've also watched through my complete set of Only Fools and Horses more times than I care to count. I've got addicted to Wheeler Dealers at the moment though - slowly collecting the series box sets of that, although they are pricey for what they are.

Hmm, sounds to me like some sort of microcontroller 'crash'. If it were mine, my first try would be to disconnect the power for 30 seconds or so before reconnecting. You can do this either by finding and pulling the radio fuse (maybe in the engine bay fusebox) or pulling it out and disconnecting the cables. HOWEVER - as it's a company vehicle, they might not take kindly to you doing that, especially if it breaks it further. Also, you will need access to a radio code to get it working once you've power cycled. Might be worth checking if anyone has it before attempting.

We use a company that offers 'freebies' in exchange for toner orders. However, when I told our sales contact that we preferred lower prices without the freebies, we achieved a considerable cost saving by declining the 'free' items. There's no such thing as a free lunch, as someone once said.

Yep, CPC PSG03748 - PRO SIGNAL - 3.5MM TO 2.5MM 4P JACK LEAD, 1 | CPC Awaiting Delivery but they do them and cheap. Free delivery on online orders too. EDIT: Sorry just read OP again properly! 4 pole to 3 pole is going to be tricky I reckon. If you know the wiring scheme, buy one of those cables from CPC plus a 3 pole 2.5mm jack and wire it up yourself?

If you are handy with a soldering iron CPC could probably provide a 1.3mm plug to attach to a suitable PSU. And isn't 13.5V a common battery charger output?

I find it slightly amusing that everyone seems to be believing that Microsoft don't do it because they say they don't. Isn't the whole point here that Google said they wouldn't do it... I like a saying I heard once about this sort of thing - I don't remember exactly but it was along the lines of "if you are not paying for a service, you have to consider whether you are the customer or the product" (Just for the record, I don't hold on to that for sites like Edugeek - it's a different thing)

I'm a lot less geeky than I used to be say 5 years ago. Used to spend virtually all my time outside of work on the PC or doing PC-related things, but now I hardly turn my desktop PC on. Partly because my interests have changed (wife and kids tend to do that!) and partly because I don't need the PC so much any more. I can get the things I want and need done quicker using my iPad and my phone (Android). I've now got into other things: getting more into cars, teaching myself basic mechanics; got a caravan and spending time tinkering and fettling with that; got back into model building; and at the moment am obsessed with the TV show Wheeler Dealers! I'm much more likely to be doing something electrical or electronic if I'm being geeky or techy now than computer related.

Surely commercial converting of vinyl would be illegal under copyright rules?

You really need to wire fog lights through a relay - they pull quite a lot of power. Otherwise, you need a really meaty switch and have to run heavy cables right through into the car. And if the cables aren't heavy enough, they will get hot and be a potential fire risk. Much safer to wire through a relay in the engine compartment with short wires from the battery to fogs via relay and then use lighter cable and a smaller switch wired into the car to control the relay to switch the fogs.

You can buy IPA from CPC as well if you don't have a science department or they wont give you any! PPC104 - PRO POWER - IPA SOLVENT, 1 LITRE TIN | CPC It's also generally pretty useful stuff to have around for cleaning electronics. Just to be clear, this is Isopropyl Alcohol we're talking about not India Pale Ale!!

We have one running here. Seems solid. It's managed by the ISP as part of our service so I don't get to 'play' with it, but we've had no problems. Ours is integrated with AD so it can control filtering based on User Group. It can also be set up to record some interesting usage stats on the internet.

Hello Not sure where to put this question so I thought I would try here first! One of the things I was looking for at BETT but didn't find was anyone doing an online system for management of school clubs. We are looking for a system which works similarly to the online Parents Evening systems, where we can set up details of the clubs running and then release an enrolment page to parents so that they can sign their children up for them. With the system then taking care of allocating places on a first-come first-served basis and then providing downloadable group lists, waiting lists etc. Did anyone else see anything similar to this? Or do any of you know of anyone who makes a product like this? Thanks Chris.

My old place was a large secondary, and they use licensed UHF radios for this sort of communication. They had Motorola transceivers, with 4 switchable channels. Having a radio on you around the place monitoring a common channel can become annoying though if they are used a lot.

I would say you need to think about how good your internet connection is when considering a Chromebook. I was at a seminar before Christmas with a hands-on with various devices. The hotel it was in seemed to have very dodgy wifi internet and the Chromebooks were almost impossible to get to do anything. I think they have a reasonable offline mode if you have no connection, but with a poor connection, they were very frustrating.
