What @somabc said, or, if you are mad, use something like trinity rescue kit to get an image of the disk and go from there.. there must be some p2v tools that'll operate on a raw disk image I guess.

It is extremely unlikely that his netbook could have picked up a policy, as others have said - not a domain member, so not feasible. The only way to push proxy settings to non-domain members is DHCP (opt 252), or DNS, and both these should (a) make things better, not worse, and (b) not prevent folk changing the proxy manually. I take it the behaviour is also exhibited at home? Is there any recent software installed (and before you believe a "no", check the list in "installed programs" and let us know what's on this machine).

Is his user the only user on the machine? What do you mean it "does nothing"? Does it allow you to set a proxy which then doesn't work? Have you tried (for the sake of completeness) doing the same in firefox?

Are you on the way to having a solution for this? Seems hopeful from the update I got from support team.

I count the windows box as "keeping some old junk working" Just want to see if it helps the AP's stability. My natural curiosity to mess. I doubt it will have any effect - the wired netwrok isnt used, but we'll see.

No v6 on wireless on my windows boxes - but (unused) wired connections had it until 2 mins ago.

I've got one of these at home, and sometimes the windows host will only get an APIPA address from the upstream dhcp server, but setting a static IP (or using android) works.. a restart fixes that, too. Roughly monthly for me. Wonder if they're part of the same class of problem. I CAN get on the web UI from wired when this happens though.

Cisco phones - often turned off when people are "using" them. I like that one. As for vehicles - not my strong suit, but I can "feel" the wife's TypeR rather than hear it, so I always know when she's home rather than a neighbour parking up.

For the record, we have 2 HDMI tvs in the sales office driven off one PC with a powered splitter, which feeds into 2 HDMI->CAT5 adaptors - note CAT5 - not IP... couldn't get IP convertors I was sure would work and at a decent price. I believe it needs 2 bits of cat5, but the quality seems fine.

When I suggested imagemagik, I was thinking a batch script around 'convert' - which could just do the job on a pre-specified folder and output to a different one, so you could tell the users "put pics here, click button, look over there".

Your web filter may keep such things in its logs. These things might be rather well hidden...
