  1. @Millgate - if you want some expo-advice, this will be my 8th BETT - from when it was just me, George (our MD) and Tim (Head of tech support) on a shell scheme to the current behemoth of an organisation our BETT stand seems to be!
  2. tracert from exchange to any external IP - if ISA is one of the hops, you're golden...
  3. @CAM - pre-register, if nothing else it will make your life much easier. You can *probably* just walk in but you'd need to give the same details anyway, they always want you to have a badge. @meadowgirl - there's usually a good supply of paper maps, and the stands are in some semblance of order. At the very least arm yourself with a list of those you "must see" and go for aimless rambling after that
  4. Unlikely you have missed this, but is ISA the default gateway for the exchange box? It is possible to set up a forward that can't be replied to because the host you are forwarding to tries to send replies to a different gateway. Have you tried telneting to port 25 on the ISA externally, see what (if any) answer you get?
  5. Is port 53 blocked outbound? Hence you can get DNS but only if you use the local DNS proxy? I take it by "internet access is lost" you mean "i can no longer resolve hostnames" rather than something altogether more cataclysmic (hostnames still considered a luxury item here in Yorkshire )
  6. yes - will try and get to look at it properly ASAP

  10. Generally, with RProxies it is best to do something like testrp.mydomain.com and insight.mydomain.com - rather than use subfolders, as this removes the need for a lot of rewriting or for the aspx to "understand" it is being proxied (the webservers can happily have a domain a piece) and then you use the rproxy to share 2 domains on one IP and the same port. Does that make sense?
  11. What are the IPs of the machines that do and don't work. I'm not sure I like those if statements at the end.
  12. Should be able to specify in the proxy.pac with standard colon notation eg PROXY 10.0.1.10:8080
  13. Describe "doesn't work" more clearly if you would...

Yea, use it a fair bit.
  15. BIOS password or harddisk password? I suspect the former. What's important? The data, or reusing the laptop? If the data is what you need - external 2.5" caddy - excuse to get get Zalman ZM-VE200-SE Portable HDD Enclosure with Virtual Drive (I bought some for the tech team here and they love them). If it's the laptop you need back - there maybe a bios reset jumper so you don't need to remove the battery. Could be just 2 solder pads. Edit: according to a service manual, there's a jumper to the right of the RAM slots (if you have the cpu on the left), that will clear CMOS. Should be just a case of closing the jumper for a few seconds.
  16. No good at logos... but your linkedin link has a spurious "....
  17. Just a word of advice for those opening up youtube. Make sure you have https covered (your filter may not be doing the required transforms for youtubes secure site), and do this in a phased way - open up staff (if they weren't already) first, or an older group of students, or a single room. Talking with some of the great and the good in education it seems there's a lot of "buzz" about this feature, and some of you will probably come under pressure from teaching staff who "get it" in the new year. I know you will be cautious, but I just thought i'd add a reminder for those still full of xmas spirit come the new term...
  18. For your entertainment - here is how to do it on Smoothwall Guardian3, courtesy of @OB1. Youtube.com/Education Support - YouTube Sadly you will need the as-yet unreleased update, likely to be called guardian3 update14, early-to-mid Jan.
  19. I wonder if he'll go Spike Milligan with "I told you i was il"?
  20. Pulling the mainboard might cause more bother than its worth - once you disturb the dust the magic smoke might emerge. I'd just reinstall it and give it to someone who'll appreciate it?
  21. I'll get one of the guys to try it here, if I can find the pre-sales ipad. If you are going to have to support ipads, I suggest you ask for budget for one for "research purposes" Mods: you might want to split this thread off...
  22. Please do. Special prize if it comes with a packet capture
  23. You're probably right, who uses soft tabs these days anyway. Im sure I used to have a reason.
  24. Not bought a lot from ICT direct, but had refurb 5 HP SFF boxes 4 years ago, all still running, and they've been to BETT twice, and Infosec, thrown around the place and treated mean. Now used for testing some filtering fun, but couldnt be more pleased with them, so yeah, buy from ICT direct, I says.
