I have voted strongly against for the reasons already explained in a previous post. I have attended a number of Software Consultation meetings where this and similar CRs have been discussed and rejected. It simply is not practical. In vital areas like P7 there are built in safeguards provided by the System7 Permissions Groups which all schools should be aware of.

The following is from Directgov: For births registered in England and Wales In England and Wales, if the parents of a child are married to each other at the time of the birth, or if they have jointly adopted a child, then they both have parental responsibility. Parents do not lose parental responsibility if they divorce, and this applies to both the resident and the non-resident parent. This is not automatically the case for unmarried parents. The minefield is actually knowing what rights the Father has - you will be amazed how many do not have the correct documentation to prove Parental Responsibility! More often than not this has been lost during the 'break up'! Couple this with one Parent trying to deny that the other has PR and pupils that demand that you do not give one parent access and you have the recipe for total chaos!

Please note that, by law, an absent Natural Father does not automatically have Parental Responsibility for a daughter or son. Whereas an absent Natural Mother does automatically have Parental Responsibility, unless there is a Court Order against her. This makes provisioning of Parents a minefield. We always err on the side of caution and deal with problems later!

It always seems strange to me that some schools leave it so late to create the next Academic Year. Mine was done months ago for 2012/13! And I can confirm that we have had no issues!

One sometimes wonders if we do improve................. ! DfE don't seem to think so 'cos they just downgrade the definitions! Soon 'Outstanding' will really mean 'Room for Improvement!', in Ofsted speak! And all those that were previously 'Good' or 'Outstanding' will have been closed because they were 'failing!'

And all the day to day changes of the Timetable & Groups. They BOTH change more than once a week, averaged across the year! In this case there ain't no chicken - just an egg. It all starts there - the Timetable Egg! There ain't no registers, marksheets etc etc without the Groups & a Timetable!

I totally agree with this sentiment! Without the Pupil allocations and timetable being correct then everything else is screwed! I obviously include the allocation to Reg Groups as well as Classes! This area is the basis of everything else on the system.

Many schools in the UK sending files at the same time, before the hols? And on a new system that has not had to cope with that scenario before?

I thought that, in this day and age, all schools would have heard of 'SIMS in the Classroom' And you can do Profiles online with SLG! (Yes I know that some people knock it - but it works!)

But Profiles can be set up so that it does pull the data through from AM7. Individual comments in a Profiles Comment Bank can be linked to specific Aspects/Results in AM7!

Strange, I have been using it on and off all morning. It was back very early this morning after the scheduled maintenance window.

The Attendance for the D Codes does not count for anything as it is not included in the Statistics against the school. See SupportNet: KB115611 - Percentage for a student has lowered since the D code change If you want to include the Absence/Attendance Code in the stats then use Code B! That is the advice we were given when the change was made!

Now that is a good idea! Thanks - I'll pass it on to the new SLG Product Manager - when (s)he is appointed. So you gave me one reason why your system is better! I don't think that is that significant when you consider the SIMS functionality in conjunction with the SLG functionality!

Not sure what you mean by 'rag rate'. SLT can see all the Homework set by anybody for anybody. They can do that directly via SIMS or via SLG. The Homework is ALL available in SIMS via Focus as well as via Registers, pupil records etc etc. Obviously this is duplicated in SLG, but there is actually no need to visit SLG if you are in school (or if you have a VPN etc into SIMS). Reports etc will be available in SIMS itself! The Homework Diary in SLG (with its hyperlinks to the Homework Resources) is available to Parents, Pupils and Staff! Hopefully, in the not too distant future, a magic button will appear so that the pupils can submit the Homework to their teacher, online! Wonderful! I hope that I get the approval to go ahead - I've been pushing it for a while now!

And that also allows you to set the Homework directly from a Register in SIMS? With SLG that is, literally, all a Class Teacher has to do! What could be simpler?

I think that 'Tower' and 'Posterior' come to mind ................. As for the Settings for A2C - ours must have already been configured to match. Probably because we have been communication with the exam boards in a similar way for years - and via AVCO as well!

Then you must be good too John! We enquired earlier in the academic year but, apparantly, they were not ready to 'invite' us then! And I find that a strange phenomenum - we often get invites to trial things early! (Wow - another Mod that I agree with! I must be mellowing in my old age!)

Hmmmmmmmm............ And that includes the Right Click and add Homework, from a Class register in SIMS, does it? In the same way you can right click and add Achievment etc?

Hopefully, I will shortly get the go ahead to purchase the Optional Homework Webpart for the SLG. Right Clicking Pupils in the Class Register of SIMS (or SLG if you prefer!) to set Homework - to be displayed to Pupils, Parents and Staff via the Homework Diary on SLG! With dynamic links to the actual Homework resource on the MLE! Fantastic!

Further to my last post. Yesterday, we received the notification of successful transfer of the Entry File. An Amendment file has now been prepared and also submitted. (Maybe I should add that we have been using the AVCO Exam Centre software for many years for transferring EDI files to EBs!)

There is no compulsion to use it even if you do install it now. You can always revert to your normal carrier. It's an ideal time to trial it while you have a backup procedure, just in case you have a problem. And, in our case, the setup only took a few minutes!

We have just successfully sent a June entry file to one of the exam boards!
