Staff do not have Admission Numbers to link to! And most schools would not understand the IDs behind the scenes!

Why not just Re-save the Report with another Report Name. Your name will then be attached to it. Then delete the original! The receiving school could then do the same!

I now stand corrected! Apologies for the long rant about an error in the software! It should have been a short rant about an error in the Release Notes! How could I possibly think of criticising the SIMS Software publicly? I should have know better!

All SIMS School Users might want to check out thread 'Set Primary ............. (33006)' on SupportNet. Matt, I hope you see this post sooner rather than later! You won't be able to see it probably but if you can get one of schools to view it then you might find it interesting. Keeping the two forums separate is a massive disadvantage when an issue like this crops up! Changing of priority on Contact phone numbers is a massive, massive error! It need others to realise the implications and report it as I have! I post this here as I am currently having problems getting Support to understand the full implications of this change! There are plenty of Capita Photographer Partners. If they won't source the Licence then they obviously don't want your business! There will be others that do!

I know that the OP did not use an external photographer but if you do:- If you are using a Capita approved photographer then they should provide the licence for you as part of their costs. If they don't, then look for a new photographer next year that does. They make enough out of the sales and purchasing the licence for you is the least they can do! The licence lasts for 12 months. It is possible to make this last for two years by having your new photo session less than 365 days from the last one. e.g. 9th September 2010 and 6th September 2011. The one licence will cover both sessions!

I can only comment on one and, as most users are aware, that is SIMS! Description? Brilliant! As for FMS, Capita have been very highly commended for their work in this field for Academies! Maybe it would suit you best too.

Not often I ain't right about SIMS/NT functionality (if ever!). I'm also modest about it!!!! You do right in limiting it. It is basically a Timetable program. Giving access to more than one person often leads to NT4 locking up and the Timetabler having to reset the locks. Now that most of the general reports are in SIMS (despite the lack of some of the functionality!) only the Timetabler really needs to run the NT4 Reporting!

NT4 is still available and still usable for Reporting purposes only. It is still supported for those reports that are still not in NT6 or in SIMS. Even some of those that have been built into SIMS still do not have the same functionality as in NT4! I am also assured that it does still work in Windows7 via Windows XP Mode! Though I have had no reason to use it yet via this platform!

You have highlighted the main issue. All schools work differently. I am the (wait for it!) Curriculum & Administration Services Manager. Our 'Data Manager' just handles the Assessment data! I wish the expression 'Data Manager' was totally wiped out. It is very misleading! I also have access to the Servers etc but the ICT Services Team are the ones who normally look after Upgrades, Backups etc. That is unless they are not here, in which case I do 'em - despite always saying I do not have the technical expertise! I also often need SysMan Backups at extremely short notice, which is why I keep arguing for this to be retained in Sysman7 (or via another quick route!). But that is another story .........

I used Logmein for years before it was banned on the local Broadband connection! I could work around it but I would be doing it contrary to the instructions I was given! Also, you have to leave a Workstation on to connect to if you want full access to SIMS. Not what we want to do in the evenings/night when we have to run backups etc etc.

Yes! It is absolutely terrible! And I know of schools with SLG who are buying into I-Pads and Emerge, supposedly just to use them for SIMS! Absolutely crazy!! I wish that we had money to burn like that!

Sorry for the delay in responding. You could clone the Class Teacher Groups in Sysman7 and then add the Permissions. This cloned group would then automatically update with future SIMS Upgrades. In Sysman6, cloned groups often lost these extra permissions with Upgrades. If I was asked to allow all staff to view this area I would refuse unless I had a written instruction to do so via a Senior Manger. These fields should be restricted to authorised personnel. It is sufficient for the rest of the staff to just know who is in care. This can be done via other methods! Having said all that, the LAC Column appear in Marksheets for those authorised to see it! (I can but for the first time in quite a few years we have no LACs!)

I very rarely get any comments when I mention SLG via WP7, either positive or negative. (I am surprised by the latter!) I wonder how many readers have actually tried it!

This is just the latest example that I have seen where the SIMS Manager role is assigned to the wrong people. The SIMS Manager simply MUST be somebody in school who intimately knows the software itself. This is yet another example of a school inappropriately assigning System7 to an ICT department that just does not understand the requirements. And, before bricks start flying my way, that statement is not aimed at all such departments, as I personally know some excellent SIMS Managers who work in these areas. Class Teachers only have access to the 'Disabilities' section of the 'Welfare' area for Pupils (Panel 10 of Pupil Details). This is a safeguarding issue!
