[sims] Academies, 'new' SIMS licenses and the EU concept of 'Exhaustion rights'
Sivadam replied to localzuk's topic in MIS Systems
Ab-so-lutely! -
Hmmmmmmmmmm Not quite as user-friendly as our system then. Good Luck with it!
-
As we are a SIMS user we use Schoolcomms. Every single group of pupils that is available in SIMS is present in Schoolcomms (including UDGs and DUDGs) so that you can SMS or Email to any combination that you can think of. Hopefully, you system will do the same! Good Luck!
-
Doesn't one of the SMS/Email Communication packages, such as Schoolcomms, link to CMIS?
-
I know that LosOjos! And well appreciated it is in your case! You ain't on my friends' list for nothing!

As far as I am concerned, Discover's main use is to analyse and graphically show Assessment Data, and the effects of other sections of SIMS such as FSM, SEN, Attendance, Post Code etc. etc. on Performance. As such it is definitely placed correctly in the assessment section of SIMS. It is this functionality to analyse performance in this way that we have been wanting for a long time! I am sure that most of the other field trial schools would agree with this! -
Now that is one offer that I will gladly accept! I am starting to wonder whether Edugeek should adopt a new Rep field. Maybe there should be Blue squares for 'Mentions'. You could even have different shades of blue for Compliment and Criticism. I reckon I could do well on that one. I seem to be getting quite a few 'Mentions' lately, of both kinds!
-
As I said earlier - the clue is in my Profile! I don't post anonymously, unlike many others! Mind you, I'm not sure my Headteacher would appreciate you calling it my school! She should take great credit for the improvement made from the situation that she inherited! And I appreciate the jest! Who would want to re-employ me at my age? That's what makes the jest even funnier to me than to most other readers on here!

[sims] Nova T4? All functions now in SIMS.net and T6?
Sivadam replied to localzuk's topic in MIS Systems
Capita are actively working on reproducing the missing NT4 Reports for SIMS.net. I know this because I have just sent them my data so that they can look at Year Timetables that cope with derived years and Sub-Bands! At the same time I also requested (again) some enhancements such as you describe! It's nice to hear from a fellow long term Nova user! There can't be that many of us surviving! -

It certainly has. If you are an LA School then you should contact them to release the licence to you! It was packaged with the Spring Release (actually it came a week or so later!) after a few of us tested it on the Autumn Release! -
Now that looks exceedingly similar to Resource 17952 that I referred to twice, above! And, as Phil says, it is referred to on our SIMS Entitlement document!
-
It's all on the Resource document I identified above! (Well at least the Icons are!)
-
I am getting very worried about the number of green squares that are appearing. I have to be doing something wrong to keep getting them! At least I am open in my Profile about where I herald from! Maybe that will be a clue to other users? Update Ha! ha! I just lost one. What a merry game this is! http://hgs.sheffield.digitalbrain.com/site/util/custom/editor/default/editor/images/smiley/msn/wink_smile.gif

There are a number of new Case Studies on:- Case Studies This one looks interesting ............... .................. or not as the case may be! http://www.capita-cs.co.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/Secondary_casestudies/HandsworthGrange.pdf
-
The details about this were published in Resource 17952 on 11th May! Our Finance team have had the document for nearly a month. They ain't looking forward to the changes but they'll soon get used to 'em! One of 'em still misses the keyboard shorcut routes that were in in FMS DOS!

It is best to get the Web Address validation working efficiently as it helps prevent the introduction of duplicate addresses for the same contacts. And hence keeps your sibling links correct! If somebody's address does not validate then get them to check with Royal Mail to see it that address is registered. It may not be and they don't know! The two databases (Capita and LA), that the two services work on, are (or should be) updated from the Royal Mail database from time to time!
-
Yes - for SLG. You can noiw publish AM7 and Profiles Reports to SLG via .pdf! Not sure how you can get at them directly via SIMS though, even if you can! I guess they must be stored somewhare!
-
It may be that your mate does not have an address registered with the Royal Mail. This can happen when new Houses, Flats etc are built. For a very long time we had a family living in a house built in the garden of their 'other' house. They never registered this new address! Guess what happened when the family moved and one of the houses was sold! Especially as they did not inform us of their house move!

Oh Dear! I hope that this is not like the situation I have seen, spoken to, and helped in some other schools! They had some users who knew how parts of SIMS worked and others who knew how other parts of SIMS worked. The trouble was they had nobody who understood the whole system and the implications of changing one section of SIMS on other parts of SIMS. Sometimes even Capita have problems with this issue when one of their development teams makes changes/updates to their areas. Hopefully, the various stages of the testing cycle pick the anomalies up, but I know of occasions when the implications have only been seen up by users such as myself, at UAT meetings/workshops! And this is not aimed at you or your team personally. I know that there are some excellent support teans out there! -

Sivadam replied to localzuk's topic in MIS Systems
Yes, but you do need to know how to use SIMS correctly as one of your roles is to show your School Users exactly that! If you don't know how to SIMS then how can you pass that knowledge on? So my thinking is, once again, totally accurate! Maybe I have to change tactics. If I compliment you will you remove those green squares? We can always pretend that the compliment is abuse and so you can then report me, as others have done! I think you LA guys are all wonderfull! (that should do for starters!) -

Sivadam replied to localzuk's topic in MIS Systems
Great minds think ...... I did as well. It's about time us school bods started to teach you LA Support guys how to use SIMS correctly! (Now if that doesn't get rid of those infernal green squares then 'nowt' will!) Goodness knows what happened to the re-design - maybe it was because I did not want to lose my Post count? Or that my previous record would disappear - just as it did on 12/08/2003 with the last re-design! Or the fact that I said how good Solution Search is (contrary to what many edugeek users try to tell me!)! -
[sims] Lesson Monitor - How to see marksheet from Assesment?
Sivadam replied to CatherineMay's topic in MIS Systems
Have you checked the Tab for an individual member of staff. Only the 'owner' of the Marksheet can see it - i.e. the Teacher of that Class! This is despite any extra Permissions you may have! (Bugga! Beaten to the punch!) Oh No! I have picked up another Green. Somebody please post something contentious so I can get rid of 'em! -
Hmmmmm....................... Now I get mentioned in Forums I don't even bother looking at! Only found it because of my alerts! Would/should one believe my Rep here - or my 'perceived' Rep on SupportNet? Interesting comparison! You guys in schools probably realise the difference anyway but those from LA Support Units etc. probably won't see my contributions to SupportNet! And that is a pity because we can all learn from each other! As far as I am concerned then the more Red I gain here the better - it means I am having the desired effect! Maybe there should be a Negative Rep Race in here - I could win that quite easily! Oh Bugger - somebody gave me some Green again! My reputation is in tatters once again ......... I wonder who I can upset next! Summat is bound to crop up!

Sivadam replied to localzuk's topic in MIS Systems
It's all on SupportNet Forums - Schools Section. I doubt you can see my contributions there as you will get the LA view as opposed to the School view, in the same way that I cannot see your version. I have always said that this is a great pity. LA Support Units can learn a great deal from high end school users in the same way that Schools can learn from efficient and knowledgable LA Support Units. When we mix at UAT workshops etc then this point is well emphasised! But it seems that never the twain shall meet on the SupportNet Forums! With the one exception that is!
