Tim, Did you ever try to create a brand new Maintenance Dataset using different dates and a different name? If not then try it and save the SPL to a different location, such as a datastick or DropBox Folder!! If that works then close NT6 and then try to re-open with that new dataset!

If I was in your shoes I would get some quotes for your establishment from different companies and then go and visit some schools who use those particular MISs as high end users!

I was hoping that the post was right and that you had used 2011 in your end date. It would have explained why you had an error. Not sure why it would happen if you had the correct dates. It does seem strange that the error description says 1899 and that your dataset name contains the number 99. Try it again with a Dataset Name that only contains letters! It should not make any difference whatsover. But then again ...............

Tim, If you really did use these dates then you have not got the year correct, in the end date. Later in your post you referred to the correct year in the end date!

Good Point! You may also have to run the 'Validate Memberships' routine. If you have not done this for a while it could take a long time!

Try removing the appropriate class from the timetable. It will have been added when the pupil was either in school or in Pre-Admin. Save the Template and then re-add the class with a different start date. It will no doubt already be after the 30-day rule that Phil has highlighted above! If not, then make sure it is! You can also delete the Pre-Admission Groups once you have ascertained that they are no longer required for anything (such as tracking 'children missing from education')

You can set up the DataChange Tracking Management via setups. I have never set this up as I have always been very aware that it may cause more problems than it solves! I suggest you investigate further before using it! [h=2]KB95087 - What is Data Change Tracking Management?[/h]

Do you not have a SIMS Partnership School near your area? These schools ought to be shown all the goodies they are missing out on!

I would go further than Phil! I believe that the ICT Services Team (as it is know as here) should have nothing to do with any of the SIMS Software - apart from supporting it's use technically on the Server and on SLG etc. They have enough to do without getting involved in the SIMS functionality. And I am NOT decrying the value of this team. Ours are excellent and I could not manage SIMS without their excellent input! Every single function in SIMS should be supported by at least two memebrs of staff. Here, the only single person is myself. This is why I am currently inservicing two members of staff re. Timetable/Academic Management. I am also the backup for a number of areas e.g. Exams, Cover, Data Management (AM7). We are currently inservicing another member of staff on AM7 and plans are afoot to train others how to use Exams and Cover. However, I still firmly believe that one person should have an overall knowledge of all SIMS functionality - call them what you wish, but they need to have the knowledge to step in and support others, as and when necessary. Unfortunately this is a difficult requirement to meet as it takes considerable time to develop all the skills required! The current problem is that the role of such a person is not being fully appreciated in schools/LAs when job re-gradings are being considered! Hence a school is less likely to retain a member of staff to fulfill this vital role!

Yes we do. The problem is staff remembering to do it! Our Medical Conditions list is massive as well!

Hi Phil, I have mentioned to Chris a couple of times that our LA sets the targets for the school in terms of Attendance. The problem is these targets are usually not integers, which they have to be in Discover. The LA could set a target of (say) 95.6%. It would be brilliant if we could set the targets to decimal places in Discover. I guess that other LAs do similar???

What do you need the data for? I ask this question because I was asked to do a similar task. When I asked 'what for?' I was told it was needed so that the Tutors could keep a regular check on the members of their group! My response was that this report was not needed at all! I pointed them to the Attendance Panels on their Homepage. Each Tutor now has 3 Attendance panels:- Whole School for whole year Reg Group for whole year Reg Group for previous week Some actually have a fourth for Reg Group for previous day!

1) Me - Super_User inc. Sysman and Timetabler 2) Exams/Cover Manager 3) Personnel Manager 4) Attendance Officer 5) Receptionist and SIMS User (Input of general SIMS Data, Mail Merge Letters, FSM etc etc) 6) Beh/Ach SIMs User (Input of general SIMS Data, Exclusions, Detentions etc) Part Receptionist 7) Data Manager (AM7) 8) Data Manager Assistant (Learning from above, who is trying to learn other roles from me!) 9) Finance Officer 10) Finance Assistant 11) ICT Services Manager - The guy who knows SIMS tekkie stuff inside out! 12) ICT Services 2 13) ICT Services 3 (Both capable of installing SIMS etc and learning the rest of the tekkie stuff from the ICT Services Manager) Obviously some of the above, especially 4 to 6 input into other areas. I calculate that we are 1.5 bodies short for the sorts of jobs that are listed in those lines. Currently one of our other Support Staff who has other responsibilites is trawling through and editing details following the return of Y7 Data Check Sheets. Y8 to Y11 to follow! ICT Services have many other duties to perform, obviously. Other staff help out as and when required but all data (apart from general details) are input directly into SIMS via Teaching or Classroom Support Staff either via Classroom Workstations, LapTops or SLG! On Roll = 1020 ...ish!

If you are loading many documents to the DMS then you might be advised to have a dedicated server just for this purpose. i.e. take it off the SIMS Server! It should be backed up as part of the overnight backup that should also be in place for the SIMS server etc. etc.

Maybe you should post this, with further details and maybe a couple of screen shots of your model for that year group, into the Curriculum Management forum of SupportNet. What you want to do may not be as easy as you think. Moving the class is simple enough, dependent on your blocking patterns, but what about the pupils currently in that class at that time? And what are the pupils assigned to at the time you want to move the class to? They have to have alternatives in both slots! Apologies if you have already got that sorted but, as you are asking what is a relatively 'simple to answer' question, I was just concerned that you do not mess up other arrangements that may be in place.

I totally support you and the solution you have supplied. There is no argument with you or your posts. What I object to is somebody who is decrying the feasible alternative which I have suggested. It is an easy solution and fits the scenario you have described. Your interpretation of the scenario is totally in accord with my own. On Supportnet both alternative solutions would have been appreciated, with no attempt to decry either. This thread just highlights the problem with these forums. If I try to offer users the benefit of my considerable experience I often end up having to defend the advice I offer. A least Gill appreciated my suggestion! And she is also a very experienced user!

You need to re-read my last post as it was edited before your response!And..... Nobody has responded re my ethics post. Surely somebody who is licensed to use SIMS with a Tradename has to have access to that organisation's SIMS. And please do not aim any more personal and insulting comments at myself!

I know exactly what my solution would show! That is why it was phrased in the way that it was - with a question! I know it would not have shown a trading name but it was an excellent workround to the solution that was posed! The OP said he would rather it be a Trading name than another school! Hence, it appeared that the main issue was the confusion that could be created by another school's name being attached to the report! My solution very adequately sorts that issue! Maybe I should just stop trying to be helpful again if users just wish to criticise! I'll just wait and, once again, just counteract any incorrect statements that users may make!

Sorry to pursue the point but the OP said he imports it again at the receiving school after exporting it from the providing school! That is exactly why my method will work for the OP! I have no reason to defend anybody or anything when I have answered a direct query so simply! Had this query been on SupportNet, I would have answered it quickly, probably got a 'Thank you' from the person posing the query, and the thread would then have no doubt been finished! Wot a pity that does not work here! No disrespect to others is intended by this comment! Creese's comments and solution are equally vaild as well, especially for the different scenario he describes! But my response answers the original query very well!

But that is exactly why I said that the receiving school could do a re-save! Then again, I am not sure of the ethics of using a School's database if you are not a member of that school. And a legitimate support unit will have a copy of the database - even if it is just the Training databse. Not sure of the ethics of using that one either! Still, ethics aside, the process is really very, very simple. I have posted a number of reports on File Sharing and I would asume that schools using them have edited them and called them their own! I share them freely for others to use. I would assume that anybody else doing this would do it for the same reasons that I do - to help fellow SIMS Users!

I have just done just that for a Green Abbey Report I still had on the system Note the Name, Date, Author, Supplier etc etc! Simples!

That is why I said the school could also do it! I have lots of reports that came in as Green Abbey because they were trial ones. They were then edited to suit the school and re-saved - obviously they now have my name on them! The originals were then deleted! My versions were then exported to my SIMSreports Folder so that I have a working copy in case they are broken by other users. I do the same with any Reports that I download from FileSharing on SupportNet!
