Hi, A while back network managers in the East Midlands area were invited to join and go to a network manager's meeting. I was fully behind this move and nothing seemed to progress. So... Depending on the interest generated, I would be looking to start termly or bi-annual Network Manager’s Meetings for all schools in East Midlands. The meetings would involve discussing the current and future LA systems, with the hope to have at least one representative from the LA there (or having some communication link to the LA before and after the meeting). This would allow us to, (to borrow some words from a colleague) as one voice, pass on our collated opinions on current and future provision from the LA. I would also envision it being an opportunity to share information/resources, and possibly form collaborations and working groups for projects (as we are all understaffed, underfunded or both). As I see it, between us we should have a vast technical knowledge, so why not share it instead of paying through the nose for someone to come in with the same or lesser knowledge? Anyway… If you’re interested, let me know, either via pm or email. If you have any partner primaries who would be interested, please feel free to pass this onto them as well. I’ll be looking to arrange the first meeting asap. Thanks Phil

I find the SIMS user permissions impossible to work with. I have wasted too much time trying to find out which blooming permission gives a particular user access to certain things. Why is it so bad? Why is there no proper documentation (or is there?) - I have the permissions excel sheet but that is not sufficient. Latest example: I want to make a user group to allow some staff to see Staff Code. A colleague with various permissions can see this, (without being able to see all & sundry) and another cannot. But I cannot ascertain which permission grants access. I have put the them in and out of various groups but I can't narrow it down & it's stupid. It's not Staff>Basic Details> View (all) It's not Personnel>P7 Field Trial Is it Staff>Professional>View (all)? [but if so, then the problem is I don't know what else they might see?] Edit Actually I'm thinking it might be Staff>Personal Information>View (although then I don't know what else they might be able to see) So am I missing something. Or if you don't know the ins-&-outs does anyone at least know which permission will allow Staff Code to be seen but not other sensitive data eg absences? So 'Personnel Events Officer' group is no good.

Hi All, I am a data manager in a large sec. modern. My IT department will not allow me to have Permissions to manage groups - as they feel it will be opening up the system too much!! Anyway, I wanted to confirm my suspicion that it is possible to be added in to the SM7 group, then have my perms defined so that I could view and manage groups with much else. Charlotte

I was just wondering how many people within your environments have access into SIMS.net with the System Manager level of access and what their role is within the school. Where I work I am the only IT technical support member of staff and have recently been told that I shouldn't have this level of access - something I discovered when I could no longer see anything in SIMS.net at all. I have now had most of my privileges returned, but not the System Manager access. I'm also wondering if there is anything else that I won't be able to do within SIMS.net except for the database upgrades and working with user accounts. Thanks in advance for your replies.
