  1. dilema.. should i go for 64bit or 32bit? Spec: AMD Athlon 64 3200 1GB RAM 500GB HDD
  2. 11th November 19:30
  3. full time, 9-5, 36hours a week, 24 days holidays + bank holidays etc three member team (ICT Tech, Senior ICT Tech and Network Manager) supporting nearly 1000 users. I dont think we could survive part time with the amount of out of hours jobs. We need to full time to apply windows update, cc3 updates, software reboots on server, rebuild ICT rooms and downtime during working hours in a big no no.
  4. I got this going as soon i arrived and we had it going for a number of months but numbers dwindled after a while. Most of the time i can't take part in school based activties amyway as im working most days till 5pm and of course teachers are done by 3pm!
  5. We use Computer Associates Threat Management Suite. It's been great so far and had no real issues with it. You get a lot for your money; anti virus, anti spyware, trojan, tracking cookies, host intrusion protection suite, content filter with updates, exchange protection, mac, linux protection and antispam. I think when we priced it up against Sophos it worked out cheaper for us. I find some aspects of it weird though. It uses a web browser to bring up program controls, logs etc which i find strange. At home i am currently using Kaspersky Internet Security 2010; free courtesy of this forum! Been really impressed with it, low memory usage and just works. In the past i have used AVG and Avira. P.S i have heard Computer Associates is used by Microsoft as well
  6. interesting.. how comes you went for the SE interior and badged it as a SE?
  7. Thanks everyone for your ideas so far. Very helpful! A little more info: If im being honest another thing is i lack confidence applying for IT jobs. I sent a copy of my CV to witch to get some feedback. I am keeping my options open at the moment and will make a decision in the new year. I'm looking into IT roles in different sectors e.g. MI5, Police, NHS, Banking etc. Outside of work i take part in social activities to prevent the boredom at work (dance classes last year, football every sat and i took up rugby for a year in 2008) Before my current role i was at university, ending up passing my degree (lack of motivation/interest) but i had a job as a sales assistant at Primark and i suppose i miss the social aspect of that job as everyone was the same stage in life. After uni it took me a year to find a job; i applied for IT roles as well as non IT roles such as croupier and BT engineer.
  8. Definitely agree that a change of scene would help but it wont be to another educational establishment.
  9. the description of the Bathurst on top gear was top draw!
  10. I know the cars i listed were not exactly beasts, i meant i love cars in general! Yeah GM owned Saab and the chassis and various parts of the 95 were taken from the Vectra. if im correct the engine was build by Saab techs though I think Saab were going to be sold to Koenigsegg? Don't forget the lotus carlton and the vx220 were vauxhalls as well!
  11. ooooo.. i love my cars My car history: Ford Fiesta 1992 1.0 - my first car, proceeded to fit 6x9 in shelf and stereo and thought i was a king! Fiat Punto 2001 1.2 - my first purchase spent £3k on it from my placement money ended up giving it to my younger brother and someone stole it from him and drove it into a road of cars Fiat Punto 1994 1.4 - blue, alloys, lots of memories, my first 3 door, loved it Saab 95 Aero 2000 2.3 - Oh man i loved this car only had it for six months but my oh my, my first car toy, 0-60 6.5 secs 230bhp, leather interior, the full works, 17mpg!, The best cup holder in the world, will definately be buying another Saab Current Car Vauxhall Astra 2001 Silver 1.8 SRi with full irmscher bodykit - looks nice, 40mpg, and does the job really and ultra reliable so far
  12. Sounds intriguing and i like the idea of having a qualification that could be used worldwide. What does RGN stand for? What i liked about the student paramedic role was it was a mixture of learning in a classroom and on the job training plus you get paid while doing this. Do you know what the entry routes into a nursing career are? Is it possible to learn on the job? What is the pay like? I currently earn about 18.5k a year.
  13. Hello all I've been working in my current role for just over two and half years. I've been involved with IT since college (AVCE ICT), studied it at University (Business Information Technology) and took a placement year as a ICT Technician. I am seriously considering a change of enviroment/role but i have no idea to what sort of role to apply for? Money is a part of the reason for a change of career and i understand education isn't the best paid sector for IT Techs. Although my manager is great and the tasks/jobs i do are great and vary, i do find the social side depressing sometimes in my current role. In my previous jobs i have made very good friends and there has always been a social aspect to the job e.g. going out for drinks etc. We dont talk too much in our department 9 two techs and one NM (we are busy sometimes with jobs etc which i understand) and the only people i really "have a laugh" with are the office staff. I dont get the chance to socialise with teachers, i work 9-5 and havent had a chance to build up friendships and a lot of the people at my workplace are at a different stage in their life compared to me. I would really like to work somewhere where there is a lively atmosphere, lots of teamwork and im open to a non IT role. I was going to apply for a student paramedic role but unfortunately all the places on their course were full up. I dont have any real responsibilities and would also consider working abroad. I would really appreciate some advice/ideas/feedback.
  14. have you had a look at task manager yet; what are the memory stats like? I would check for: which programs are running at startup check for non essential services and disable any which you dont need anti virus program is working properly and/or you dont have two running
  15. England matches should be free for all. The FA are hardly in the clear with this. They need to pay for the ridiculous price of Wembley Stadium hench selling England games to the highest bidder. There are a list of sporting events that have to be made to free to view on tv. [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITC_Code_on_Sports_and_Other_Listed_Events]ITC Code on Sports and Other Listed Events - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] No doubt we will eventually see World Cups on pay tv. Also shouldn't fans be able to take celebrations from players if they are going to abuse them?
  16. Of course not if you compare it to careers such as nurses, firefighters etc. I hate to use a often used quote but thats the way the world is. If you compare it to the money clubs make through television deals, sponsorships, revenues players bring to clubs through shirt sales etc then yes they are not overpaid. They pay tax and NI (although no doubt some of them employ favourable accounting measures!) They are paid according the "market" and as long as supporters pay ridiculous ticket prices and overpriced subscription costs it will continue.
  17. I don't think they are overpaid. A lot of people who complain they are overpaid still pay £40 for a replica shirt and pay sky a ridiculous amount a month for watching the games. "over paid bunch of inarticulate Neanderthals kicking a bag of wind around" i take it you don't like football then?
  18. Can anyone help me with finding windows certified drivers for the canon lide 25 scanner? I have tried the obvious places; google and canons website. I have also tried to email Canon directly and their response was: Dear Customer, The latest drivers available for the LiDE 25 is as per the website at: Official Canon Drivers and Software We are unable to comment on future product or driver releases. We are unable to supply you with an alternative driver for the LiDE 25 scanner. Please bear in mind not all devices / drivers are WHQL certified and further information is available at the Microsoft website. Not very helpful! I need certified drivers so i dont have to go around to every machine and login as administrator so the scanners can install drivers. Thanks
  19. try hand washing it i.e let it soak in a bowl for a couple hours. I do these with mine and havent had any problems at all.
  20. primark - all my work shirts are from their last ages and cheap as chips
  21. I love them. Very Creative!
  22. start, run, msconfig, or you could try autoruns in the sysinternals suite.
  23. I was looking for how to automatically print out pages with domain usernames and i found this: GreenPrint Software - Millions of Trees Can't be Wrong. Looks very very interesting. Installing now...
  24. Also i would create script to delete the scheduled tasks that conficker uses (AT1 etc) and run it on all your machines.
  25. that is definately conficker and the rundll32 processes will be the AT scheduled tasks runnning. I would suggest you do the following: Download the sysinternal suite and in there you will find a tool called process explorer which you should use to check the processes (advanced version of task manager which can identify the source of the process). Disable task schedule service Download the microsoft malicous software removal tool and the norman malware cleaner Make sure your copy of windows is up to date with security patches Make sure your anitvirus is up to date Boot into safe mode and run the norman malware cleaner then the microsoft malicous software removal tool then run a complete anti virus scan.
