  1. I think the edugeek tagline in the heading somes it up perfectly: "the educational IT professionals' life line"
  2. Metal Gear Solid 4
  3. i dont think our staff are ready for belt tightening and wont be. a large have the attitude if its broken cant you just buy a replacement (a lot the equipment can be fixed either under warranty or by ourselves but they dont have patience) we have the pigeon hole culture at our school and the amount of memos, colour newsletters, etc in our pigeon holes that are read once and binned is shocking. im tempted to sticker my pigeon hole with "no junk mail please". i could go into a the whole energy savings topic; i overheard one of our teachers saying the other day "oh they except us to turn off lights now" regarding the 2nd link "A White Paper on policing says IT and administrative costs can be cut." "The Home Office document also says officers should patrol the streets alone, rather than in pairs, to make them more accessible to the public. " IT costs are a easy target and i totally disagree with officers patrolling streets alone.
  4. Something else will come up; i remember when supernova was shutdown it was the end of the world! File sharing sites such as rapidshare have become a popular alternative to torrents. I think music/movie companies are slowly starting to get with the times.
  5. I agree with you about it not being what the picture paints. I would hope that the majority of the kids who get to take part in the experience would change their behaviour in some way ( i wouldnt expect them to become saints overnight though) I was watching episode 1 from season 2 last night and i was cringing at the attitudes of the two kids; as soon as they arrived at their host parents house they lit up cigarettes.
  6. it's into season 2 now and all the episodes are on iplayer.
  7. Does anyone else watch this? One of the few things i watch on tv, great Programme.
  8. would this help? User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel Hides specified Control Panel items and folders. This setting removes Control Panel items (such as Display) and folders (such as Fonts) from the Control Panel window and the Start menu. It can remove Control Panel items you have added to your system, as well as Control Panel items included in Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional. To hide a Control Panel item, type the file name of the item, such as Ncpa.cpl (for Network). To hide a folder, type the folder name, such as Fonts. This setting affects the Start menu and Control Panel window only. It does not prevent users from running Control Panel items. Also, see the Remove Display in Control Panel setting in User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Display. If both the Hide specified Control Panel applets setting and the Show only specified Control Panel applets setting are enabled, and the same item appears in both lists, the Show only specified Control Panel applets setting is ignored. Note: To find the file name of a Control Panel item, search for files with the .cpl file name extension in the %Systemroot%\System32 directory. Note: To create a list of disallowed Control Panel applets, click Show, click Add, and then enter the Control Panel file name (ends with .cpl) or the name displayed under that item in the Control Panel. (e.g., desk.cpl, powercfg.cpl, Printers and Faxes) Note: This setting does not affect the Categories that are displayed in the new Control Panel Category view in Windows XP. If you want to control which items are displayed in Control Panel, enable the Force classic Control Panel Style setting to remove the Category view, and then use this setting to control which .cpls are not displayed.
  9. do you have any toshiba branded wireless software installed as part of the image? we had a problem with HP laptops and HPs wireless software which was stopping laptops from connecting properly to wireless connections; removed the software and just used the windows wireless utility and it worked.
  10. My software audit started as access database through manual checking of licenses (basically going through 100s of cds\dvds in our office and hunting down department heads) and has now evolved into using lansweeper to track licensing on our pcs. We are lucky that the vast majority of software in our school has a site license.
  11. Just been looking at the fees and i agree they are excessive but i'm adamant people should still be punished for being overdrawn. We are meant to live within our means? Isn't that why we are in the economical situation? Are consumers getting refunds for the excessive amount or on a basis where a non excessive charge is agreed? really interested in peoples views.
  12. Banks win Supreme Court case on overdraft charges BBC News - Banks win Supreme Court case on overdraft charges I've never understood how people can claim charges isnt it their own fault for getting overdrawn?
  13. 2012 no match for leprechaun in the hood as the worst film ever
  14. We have two networks at our school; a vanilla admin network (domain name: ADMIN) and a RM CC3 student network (domain name: ESHERHIGH). Since coming back from the summer holidays, i've noticed at the login screen for admin network computers, you are given the option to logon to the ESHERHIGH domain (in the drop down list underneath password field). Before the summer we only had two options; logon to ADMIN or logon to local computer. Does anyone have any ideas on why the option to logon to the CC3 domain has suddenly appeared?
  15. good thing they didnt play postal 2!
  16. Can i ask if you have managed to upgrade to 4.11 yet? I'm accessing the sims mobile admin page directly from the server. The mobile admin page was working fine until yesterday afternoon. In between the time it was working and the time it broke, the only changes made to the server was running run the config util, clicked open, clicked update apis and clicked save. I had sims mobile running fine until this upgrade! I've never had a succesfull first time upgrade with sims mobile; something always breaks. It would have been easier to purchase netbooks for PE staff and have them use the netbooks with our wireless points to access sims.net!
  17. my weekends are very boring at the moment. most saturdays i play football for my local team and last year i was playing rugby. i did take salsa lessons last year on saturday mornings which was pretty cool and i am planning to do that again in January. other than that it's mostly nights in for me; trying to save up money for moving out of my parents home at the moment. i've grown out of the stage of going out to a nightclub, getting drunk etc. i am also looking at volunteering on weekends as well.
  18. well the mobile admin iis site broke yesterday so i can't even setup users. pdas are currently failing the diagnostic test with the error: failed to access the web services layer. nothing has changed on the server so i cant see whats gone wrong. i've tried iisreset, updating the config utility, no doubt capita will now ask me to reinstall the software.
  19. by offline i mean there is a function in sims mobile which allows you to take a copy of the sims database to a pda, allowing you to take registers around school without having to use a wireless connection. you have to synchronize with sims using a wireless or activesync connection though to registers to be updated. the bit im stuck on is logging into sims mobile.

  22. apology accepted..no harm done
  23. i use some materials from this website: A Guide to Copyright Licensing in Schools
  24. @bossman I think someone has got the "wrong end of the stick" I was asking for help about sims mobile and was baffled about the response which was: "I came across this new product for iPhones the other day, it may be of interest to you.. http://www.teacherswebfolder.com/" I made it clear i was using PDAs so i dont see what iphones have to do with it which was a valid query. I had a look at the link in the post and again i believe i have made a valid point about the website e.g. where is the company information etc. I haven't heard of Teacher's WebFolder before. "Well I suggest then that the school invest some more money in support as it is quite obvious to me that you are in need of it desperately!!!" Well my personal opinion of sims mobile is it's rubbish but thats not relevant. "I would also look at your posts and reflect on how you ask for help as you have a distinct attitude problem in my eyes when people are offering help. " It's a shame you think that and it's out of order. I don't have any problems with people offering help. I've posted many times on this forum and never had anyone complain about how i ask for help. I think you need to chill.
  25. i'm sorry i thought it was spam. What is this anyway? I cant see any company info on the site. Does it have offline use? Anyway its not applicable as i dont have control over purchasing and the school has invested a lot of money into SIMS Mobile.
