    I think that the high end Cisco phones have built in QoS tagging so you can tag the phone and data traffic separately.

    Information on the differences between how you have to treat Students and Teachers/Staff for licensing things like CALs and the different options we have available would be great.

The PSA09 deal unfortunately didn't cover school/academic licensing (which is even cheaper). To answer your other question - I've started using what was previously the OGC Buying Solutions Catalist framework (no idea what its called now they've renamed themselves) to purchase IT equipment. Generally find that with the suppliers that are subscribed to the framework we can get some very cheap equipment!

    Just sat in on one of the Buying Solutions/Microsoft presentations and seems that (as I expected) the schools/campus agreements and academic select agreements are being left alone as they have even better pricing then the new PSA09 deal. The PSA09 deal did have an interesting option called server+, where for a little extra on top of each CAL you buy, it also licenses you for running the server that the CAL needs. From the Q&A session it appears that providing you keep your licensing up to date with the server+ option this would let you run as many copies of the server OS as you need (essentially unlimited). I think the server+ option was only available as a SA or subscription benefit. Unfortunately it appears that there's no current plans to offer it as part of any of the academic agreements

    The 7110 actually has 16 disks - 2 are used for the OS and the other 14 are for you to use for storage . Currently got mine setup with the ZFS raid-6 equivalent giving me 1.4tb of usage storage.

    Technically this is still single factor authentication. To use two different factors you need 2 of: what you are (biometics etc), what you know (usernames + passwords) or what you have (usb token). Two passwords/PINS (or a larger number if you prefer!) to access a system doesn't constitute two factor. If someone is able to get the first password they can almost certainly obtain (or guess) the second. However they may not be able to get hold of a biometic or a keycard which is where TF-A gives you the added security Sorry for bringing the thread slightly off topic but TF-A and it's very common misinterpretation is something that is a pet peeve of mine

    Hi Chris, I'm afraid I can't answer any of your questions (we've recently got our 7110 and haven't had a chance to play with it yet!), but I did just want to say that I'm insanely jealous of your 7410 and all that storage How are you finding general performance out of interest?

    I just hope that JBOD expansion on the 2tb 7110 is on that elusive roadmap . Otherwise I'll just have to look at getting some of the 4tb (or whatever they may be by then!) 7110's in a year or so.

    From what I've heard you'll be able to imbed moodle into University but that's about it

    I have the direct number for our account manager and the number for the schools team. I did try to call the schools team when my account manager was on holiday and I couldn't get through so I can understand peoples frustration with Dell

    I have to say that after seeing the Uniservity technical presentation I was very unimpressed with their backend setup, and it did explain why it can be so slow to do anything with it.

    Have to say that our Account Manager has been pretty good. When I first setup our Dell account we were assigned to the wrong account manager for our area and it was impossible to get hold of her, but our latest is always around when we need to order stuff or have a question. Have to say getting premier access to the dell website has been very handy as well. We can place orders through there and get our discount applied (although we have to pay the £25 delivery!), or what I do is use it to get the spec I want send it to my account manager and she gets us the free delivery and tries to lower the price

    It's been rolled out here in East Sussex by our LEA a year ago. We still haven't got anyone using it properly, and found it to be a pain to administer, clunky and just not that great in general. Coupled with just how slow it can get and it just isn't a workable solution for us. We're now in the process of thinking/planning a move back to a inhouse Moodle install

    That sounds very similar to my todo list! This does look like yet another useful tool to add to my growing collection of network + server monitoring tools

    Most large US companies (Amazon, Google etc) are part of the EU/US Safe Harbour Data Protection agreement (or just host their data in the EU!) so you should be covered under DPA. Have you looked at the MS live@edu (Live @ edu :: The Future of Student Collaboration is Here) stuff? You can get a 10gb hosted on a Exchange 2010 platform and supported by MS, with little or no cost.

    Just to warn you the 7110's have 4xgigabit NICs and 1x management NIC for the integrated lights out management (iLOM), as do most of the Sun Servers I believe. So if you want out of band management etc you're probably looking at 20 ports for the 4

    I've just installed XenServer 5 on our lovely new X4150's. Haven't been able to connect them up to the 7110 yet, or test it properly (waiting on some AC so our lovely new servers don't fry when we switch them on!), but Xen installed fine (I did it from home in the middle of the night using the built in IP KVM and DVD-image redirection!) and XenCenter connects fine. According to XenCenter the X4150's have 2 x Intel 80003E2S2LAN Gigabit Ethernet Controllers and 2x Intel 82571EB Gigabit Ethernet Controllers

    I don't suppose you know if the MSI Wind has had this problem corrected? Possibly looking at getting either the MSI Wind U100, Lenovo S10e or the NC10 at the moment
