+1 All of our D-Link kit started failing just outside of its 3 year warranty (about 6 months in the job for me!). We had 30% failure rates within 6 months of that. I've sworn never to buy another D-Link product (consumer or business!) because of it.

Had similar issues with D-Link at my last place. Replaced them all with lovely Juniper switches

Used them for some of the software we purchased after tending through Buying Solutions. Seemed to get good pricing from them (well they were the cheapest!) and the account manager was fairly good.

Look at Aerohive. Our spec was similar (1-1 laptops student & staff, with guest access from phones/ipads/tablets etc), and we got pricing/spec from lots of suppliers. In the end we went for Aerohive for best combination of price/performance. Had 80 APs installed over the summer and now have around 200 devices connecting, with more planned every year

Yep - finger prints are taken via our cashless catering system and also used for our library system. First time you log into a copier you have to do it manually so it can tie your cashless catering credentials to your fingerprint, but after that its nice and quick

Another vote for PaperCut. Great company with an amazing product. We use it extensively here - have it installed on all the copiers and tied into fingerprint readers/biostore for print release.

I still remember my massive meat platter being wholly disappointing and under cooked!

I've used Ruckus and Aerohive. Both are excellent systems. Currently got an Aerohive system here with 80 dual-band APs for site-wide wireless (idea being it has to support around 2-3k devices) working very well .

Ricoh here with 4hr callout and they've been pretty good. Had the engineer out for the first time this week (got them in August), and that was because the waste toner bottle needed emptying (not a user replaceable part on our copiers!).

We were one of the first LGfL 2.0 schools being a new build Academy. We were originally going for a plain virgin/A.N.Other fibre connection, but shortly before I started they agreed to take a LGfL 2.0 connection on the condition that it was like a standard fibre connection - unfiltered and unrestricted. Of course once activated we found that as you say LogMeIn and other remote access protocols are blocked. If we'd known this in advance we wouldn't have taken up the contract. It's a huge issue when trying to get support for third parties as LogMeIn/GoToAssist/TeamViewer are all standard remote support tools for Capita or another other major IT company. It's an issue that I've also been meaning to raise, but unfortunately have had little time to. If your meeting with Brian feel free to add my voice to the protests. PM me for contact details.

Hi Everyone, Just wondering if anyone has got Xibo playing back HD video on Atom based nettop PCs with NVidia ION graphics? We're looking at doing that here but wanted to see if it would work!

We're just rolling it out here. Really nice company to work with - not sure about how well the product works yet as we're only just installing it, but I did like the fact that they spend some time with you testing it and then create you a custom MSI for your environment/proxy setup/deployment tool. For us it was working out cheaper than Securus.

We use https://www.successphotography.com. I've only dealt with them this year but we only seem to have 1 wrong photo.

As @GrumbleDook says I'm the IT Director at a new build Academy outside of BSF/PFI that opened about 8 weeks ago. Everything was controlled by the Academy trust. Being a total new build our funding was slightly different, but essentially network cabling and anything that was fixed to walls/ceilings/floors (so very fancy unistrut based projector mounting arrangements allowing future flexibility of projector placement, ceiling mounted speakers (including the Nuvo amp and the speaker its self), vga/power/audio faceplates and extension cables, all server room and comms room components - UPS (but only where it's a large three phase hard wired UPS with connections to fire systems, sprinklers etc), server racks, raised flooring, A/C, audio cabling in the music rooms) was delivered as part of the main building contractors or the M&E contractors remit. As part of the main network cabling contract (M&E subcontractors) fibre and Cat 6 patch cables were to be provided in lengths and colours (and in the case of fibre patch cables connector types as well) of our choosing. The main contract/M&E contractor also had included a series of items that we were to free-issue to them for them to install on our behalf (projectors, IWBs, Plasma tvs, speakers outside of classrooms etc). These items came from the main IT capital, but their install was included in the overall contract cost. If your lucky you'll get a lot of say in the M&E design. This building was essentially designed around a core IT vision with heavy input from the IT consultants that were part of the initial building design and construction. This has meant we've been quite lucky in that things like projector pole locations had priority over everything and services were redesigned and rerouted to cope with any issues it may cause from an IT standpoint. Even though IT was consulted as to where power and data went unfortunately it was decided before my time and we still have too few data/power points (to the point that we spent a large amount of money retrofitting the building for wireless before we opened!). Even with all that was included in the main building project there's lot that isn't. Anything to do with our specialism (IT, creative and digital media) was out of scope and had to come from the IT capital budget, and this included anything infrastructure based such as cabling and unistrut for lighting rigs. Still as a new build academy we've had a quite generous IT budget that I've been allowed to control totally, which has meant that we've been able to retain control of the process and keep things as much as possible in house. Our FD purchased PSFinancials having used corero at her last Academy. She's really liking PSFinancials and says that it's a lot better than the products she's used in the past, but has a bit of a learning curve. As a end user the web based PO system is great

It's a very expensive video/audio matrix system made by TV Over CAT5,VGA Over CAT5,Hospital Television,Hotel Television,Digital Signage. We opted to use a Clickview Live system to give us the same sort of functionality but over the standard network which works out a bit cheaper. And we already have the pre-existing infrastructure to support the Scion system (our building was built with it in mind).

Just built myself a nice core i7 machine for my work PC. You know you want to do it . And I won't mention my budget - it's just not fair
