I got it once or twice last night

We actually had them install it in a VM with a 60gb C drive and 80gb D drive - they didn't complain or bat an eyelid. SQL/PSF are both installed on the D drive and it's using about 10-15gb, but the actual database is about 50mb. Do bear in mind that we've only been open since September though!

Did you ever use FMS? Corero is light years ahead of where FMS was at this time last year

If you read the article it was a bit more than just that. It seems that the pilots were under the misunderstanding that they were flying under "normal law" conditions where the aircrafts controls simply won't let them stall the plane. As a result of all the pitot tubes icing over however the aircraft had disengaged autopilot and normal law and switched to "alternate law" where a pilot can stall the plane and there are very few restrictions. Apparently Air France don't cover flying the plane at cruise altitude while in alternate law. For comparison united airways 13 777's have never entered Alternate law, so its unlikely something either co-pilot (captain was on a rest break) had encountered. You really need to have a read of the PM article to see just what went on. It seems that actually while instrument failure caused the initial problems it wasn't the actual cause of the crash, but pilot error.

Read it a couple of days ago and it really was shocking how a misunderstanding of what was happening to their aircraft and lack of communication caused the crash. Hopefully we'll see even better training in what to do when the unexpected happens for pilots.

I did have a big post typed up, but managed to loose it! We've just had PSF installed here and it's great. Loving the web PO system, and much prefer it to FMS (used at my last school). Our FD was previously a Corero user (we're a new academy so it was relatively recently as well) and she's preferring PSF as well. She says that Corero was good, but PSF is just so much easier for the advanced things and preparing for audit/accounts/reporting etc.

Would be interested to know who the MPC4501 is with. Very good price for that!

Try to go for the business range. I find their consumer range can be a bit crap and flimsy (but very cheap if that's what you want!). Prefer to spend a bit extra and get the latitude range with metal alloy cases, reinforced hinges etc.

Have a look on the Dell Outlet and get a E6320 with SSD and Quad i7. My other half picked one up recently for about £600 + VAT with Quad i7, 4gb Ram, Intel ABGN wireless, bluetooth, uprated screen (1600 x 900), 128gb SSD and 3yr NBD warranty. Was a returned order so didn't even have a scratch/dent Bought an extra stick of 4gb (was 1 x 4gb stick originally) for around £30 and it's now got 8gb RAM Can get some amazing deals off of the Dell Outlet if you watch it for a week or two and are ready to buy as soon as you see something good come up . Also a good place to pick up way overspecced servers at bargain prices. Dual AMD 12-core 6000's with 64gb RAM and 12 x 300gb SAS drives for 2.5k was the most recent bargain I spotted. Shame I didn't have any budget to buy it

Well I was there in 2010 & 2011. This year I'm definitely going, and hoping to go for the whole week. Plus side for me is I only work 20-30mins walk away now, so can still cover urgent issues . Also thinking of giving a tour of our place to those that are interested (I know there are a few!) one evening after the show

I've used a combination of Ricoh and Kyocera printers recently. Both have been fairly good. Had a few issues with the Ricoh drivers not always rendering certain PDF/office documents correctly. Normally solved by using either the PS or PCL driver (opposite to whichever one was causing problems!). To get around this we deployed a Mono and Colour version for each printer, using PCL for one and PS for the other

I may have a decent salary, but unfortunately it's not quite big enough to cover the tab at one, let alone two of those fine establishments!

I still say we need to have a proper taste-off between Goodmans (Goodman Steak Restaurant in Mayfair City Canary W London, Popularly Regarded as the Best Steak in London 2011 2012 | Goodman Restaurants) and the Hawksmoor. They both frequently get rated as the best two steak restaurants in London . Only fair we try them both

We also use Bluesky for teachers and support staff. Could be better for support staff, but seems to work well for the teachers!

Ohh for sure - the language needs to be fairly simple to get started. Starting with C or Ada would just be a nightmare! One of the reasons I like Scheme (providing you have a good text editor with bracket matching ), although Python, Ruby and Java are all fairly simple to get started with Interestingly it was our data structures and algorithms course that was also taught in Ada!

You laugh but my uni used to teach Ada95 (well they still do ) to first years to teach the basics of OO programming. Personally I'm a big believer that it doesn't matter what language is taught, it should be more about getting the basics of programming and languages correct. First teach the basics (conditionals, algorithm design, big O notation/complexity theory) in a language that very few (if any) of the students will have used to remove any bad habits then move onto more standard (C#, Java, Python etc) languages as you move into more complex situations. Of course if I was picking languages then it'd all be Scheme, Haskell and a bit of Ada for those in detention The biggest problem we have is that we don't have teachers with the required skill set to teach programming. Programming its self isn't hard - teaching it well without bad habits however is, and one thing we don't want to be doing is churning out a load of students that know how to program badly.
