I've fixed SSO. I changed the permissions on \moodledata\ to give the relevant users modify permission. Because SSO uses Windows authentication, instead of anonymous, the NTFS directory permisions have to be changed. Thanks very much.

Thanks for replying and sorry for my late response. I think I've found the reqason for the problem - LDAP is only partially working. I've had a lot of trouble getting accounts to log on - some would and some wouldn't. It appears that Moodle LDAP auth checks the user's cn attribute, not the Windows logon name. Most of our AD accounts have a cn attribute like "Fred Smith", but a user login name like "09fblogg". They can log on to Moodle with Fred Smith + password, but not 09fblogg. I think this is why SSO fails. How do I make Moodle check against the Windows logon name, instead of the cn attribute? I've just spent nearly a whole day experimenting to find this!

Just to update, I found that this fix works with Google Earth 6.2.

Misco have no SATA disks under 160GB, just SSD. I think 2011 was the end of small consumer hard disks. I doubt they'll be made again - they'll never get them cheaper than SSDs by the time production is back up to speed. Just my thought.

I've got it working. The ActiveDriver installer does not install the serial component by default. I ran the ActivDriver installer twice. On the second run, it gives the option to modify. Select modify, then select the serial component. Also requires the Keyspan driver.

Is there a way of connecting users private files areas to their home folders on a Windows server? We want users to log on to Moodle, then instead of seeing Moodle's repositories, (server files or file system), they should see the Windows home folder they are used to using. I think it can be done, but don't know how. Thanks.

Hello, I've got LDAP authentication working. Now I'm stuck on NTLM SSO. I've worked through NTLM authentication - MoodleDocs. Now SSO fails every time. With IE fast path disabled, users see:- Attempting Single Sign On via NTLM... Auto-login failed, try the normal login page... then Moodle goes to the normal login screen, and they can log in with their LDAP credentials With IE fat path enabled, it's worse. User just see a blank white screen with:- Fatal error: $CFG->dataroot is not writable, admin has to fix directory permissions! Exiting. Then it's impossible to log on. Any ideas? Thanks.

I am so embarrassed. I was using the wrong password for the test account. Moodle was correctly reporting "Invalid login, please try again", with no other errors. I've wasted two hours on this, and your time too. I need a break. (It doesn't explain the error running sync_users.php manually, but that's something else). I really am sorry. I was just stuck in a groove and not thinking of the full problem.

The LDAP entry for the Moodle user is correct. I'd already copied the full DN from the attribute editor so I could be sure of getting it right. Search sub contexts is 'yes'. The Moodle bind user is in a different OU to the rest of the users (set in contexts, 3 lines down). Should this make a difference? Update:- I can manually run sync_users.php, and it returns:- Connecting to LDAP server... Creating temporary table tmp_extuser ................................................................................ ....................................................................!!! Error writing to database !!! This suggests (to me) that Moodle is connecting to AD, but there's another problem afterwards.

Thanks. The account was a standard user. I've changed it to a member of domain admins, but it didn't make any difference. I've entered the name in the form "CN=Moodle LDAP,CN=Users,DC=domain,DC=local" I'm running it on IIS, not Apache, as I installed it via the MS Web Platform Installer. I've installed the ldap php plugin. The LDAP Server page won't appear without it.

No AD users are working in Moodle. If I look at Home/ ► Site administration/ ► Users/ ► Accounts/ ► Browse list of users, it shows only the two accounts I set up manually. I can create new users in AD, then try to log on with those credentials in Moodle, it says "Invalid login, please try again". I expected it to look them up in AD and create the account.

I'm well on my way with my first Moodle installation on Windows. I've worked through LDAP authentication - MoodleDocs and set up LDAP. New user accounts are not being created. If I log on as a new user, I just get "Invalid login, please try again", no other errors are displayed. I thought that will LDAP configured, Moodle would look up new users when they try to log on and set up their accounts as necessary - is this not right? I think I'm supposed to set up a cron job to automate LDAP synchronisation. I've installed MoodleCron, and it appear to be working, runing the standard cron job. How do I add another cron job to sync LDAP?

Tony, That's brilliant. I've done plenty of dabbling with Linux web servers in the past, but never got one properly working for production (not securely anyway). I didn't want to go through all that now. There's a Web Platform Installer with a very recent version of Moodle there now, so I'll try that tomorrow. SSO with AD is important to us as well, so thanks for mentioning that.

Hello, What's the best (most painless) way to install Moodle? Should I go with Windows or Linux? (I'm much more of a Microsoft man, but can get around Linux with time). Should I install a Standard Package, or via CVS? What about the Moodle for Windows? After a fruitless and disappointing three years with our LA-provided VLE, we've decided to go back to Moodle. The previous one was hosted by a local college. This time I'll be installing and managing it - and I don't know where to start. Thanks for any suggestions!

How exactly did you do this? I can't see a way to remove the dictionary. I need to remove all proofing tools for exam laptops. This was easy in 2003 - just change the install options and desect the proofing tools. In Office 2010, they keep coming back!

Does it have to be paid for? I thought there was a free version, but then I don't know much about it. I'll ask one of the boys to enter their credentails to see if it makes a difference. I was using an account I'd created. It does look, from the videos, like the sort of thing I'd have wasted my life on as a teenager.

Hello, I've been asked by opur SENCO to allow 3 SEN students to play Minecraft. She has no idea what it is and until yesterday, I didn't either. I've made changes to the firewall (smoothwall). I've allowed them mcupdate.tumblr.com and minecraft.net, and port 25565. The minecraft launcher still says "Can't connect to minecraft.net" when I try to login. Is there anything else I should do? Thanks.

Fixed it after finding the solution for Expression Studio 3.x on appdeploy.com. The msi's have the keys built in in the PROOFOFPURCHASE property. However, deploying the msi files via GPO results in an installation with no key on a 60-day trial period. After 30 days it nags for the key. I found the correct key in the WebStudioManifest.xml file in the WebStudioManifest.cab file. I created an mst file to apply this key to the PROOFOFPURCHASE property in the Web_en.msi and Design_en.msi files. It works. The app installs correctly licensed.
