  1. arth shared his invite wave with me, and now we both have 30 invitations left. well did have, 29 now, it seems that as he's added me i can now invite people on his behalf??? anyone else found this???
  2. Indeed it does. There is a balance to how often one should defrag. There is a biting point much like a car clutch as to when the best time to defrag is. It's the point at which the ware by the defrage will be less than continous ware of fragmented access. This is if you take i want my drives to last the longest approach, but more often than not we're after speed and performance which means you can aford to take a hit on MTBF of your drives. I'm guessing most of us will have drives on servers in RAID arrays. What significant differances are there when defragging thoes and does hardware/software RAID make much differance to fragmentation?

    Exchange 2010

Has anyone used 2010 inside a virtual box?
  4. Lucky it wasn't the PC on fire.
  5. Yes, but not necessarily for speed reasons. If you think your actunator moves between tracks, every time it moves, some barings take a hit, which degrades them. So yes, a defraged drive decreases MTBF. which is never a good thing. Again, today it isn't so much of an issue because the life of the drive will almost everytime out live the machines usefullness time. They key to making a Hard drive last isn't the hardware but the software responsible for how it fills the drive. I've personally found that on windows, if you only let the drives fill to 50% then fragmentation doesn't matter (or occour). Also removing the virtual memory completely will speed up the access to the drive, and increase the life expectancy (in theroy). On linux, different file systems are different in how they fragment files. some will also defragment as and when they are idle.
  6. Cat's (2) called Einstein and Timmy.
  7. We have a scripted defrag here too, take a few seconds and keeps them relativly free from large fragments. Well worth setting up.
  8. Surely when they bid (under ebay rules) the auction details form a sort of contract btween you and the buyer. If they fail to pick it up when collection is stated as part of a contract, then they have broken that contract and you should report it to ebay (surely?).
  9. As i understand it; When you auth using kerberos the machine creates a ticket, and the server has a matching ticket. The tickets are stored on the machines for a set period of time. The ticket is generated using the username, password and computer name i think, so changing one of these means the tickets are no longer valid. A key point i should make is you do not have to be part of a domain or on a domain to auth using kerberos. Anyone can, but it's the sharing and NTFS properties ''security'' that tie's down which users/attempts are allowed access.
  10. I wear something like spandex to work, like a cotton and poly mix, very comfee. Never had an issue with static, leave PC plugged in and usually on. Dont usually work on servers too much. But probably wouldn't bother on them ither. I dont ware sleve's so i'm usually grounding myself without realising by leaning on the case to get to the components.
  11. If your work want you to have a mobile phone; they should supply and pay for it. You should leave it at work at the end of the day. Your personal phone is exactly that; personal. And should not be used by your employer or anyone you work with unless you give your permission explicity to them, or there is an emergency. If you employer (or someone you work with) uses your personal number given or gives it to another staff member to use against your permission, you could argue it was a breach of data protection.
  12. What software are you trying to run within a VM? cubase, reason, sibelius?
  13. of thoes of you who had invites have you got an invites to send?, i have googlewave but no invites to send out.

    serif mst's

Can you explain to me what tools you used to do this?
  15. mjs_mjs

    serif mst's

It's really annoying, we need to install the resources to a shared location (disk space is tight). Anyone know how we can do this?
  16. I've seen this many times. I think it's something to do with kerbros auth. The system volume sysvol and netlogon shares are shares sharing files required for computers on the domain. The shares contains group policies, packages and scripts i think. You WILL break windows if you remove the shares.

No i have the msi's, i'm after the transform files to go with them.

    serif mst's

Hi, does anyone know if mst's exist for the following? webplus 10 pageplus x2 drawplus x2 photoplus 11 movieplus 5 I've had a quick google and searched on here but couldn't find anything, also looked on serif. Does anyone else use them on CC4, if so how did you package them?
  19. Just build my first cc4 machine within a virtual box and i'm a lil pleased. Very pleased in fact. It would appear that it's faster that an equilivent hardware PC. May be a silly thing but yeah. I'm just a little impresed with Suns' Virtualbox. Anyone else done the same thing? Are there any issues with this?
  20. Just shown to one of our music teachers and they said it looked like something else... and that he wouldn't be showing it to the students. Tho i found it fassinating.
  21. Anyone going to the green expo this year? Green IT Expo - Bottomline Benefits from Sustainable Computing Did anyone go last year, if so what was it like?
  22. no got one better - google cached... Vauxhall Vectra B lexus style lights - well sick yo!!! on eBay (end time 04-Nov-09 00:37:11 GMT)
  23. it was a funny item listing, it's been removed by ebay i would think, quite rightly too.
  24. Made me laugh too.... I'm supprised no one's compalined about it. It's gotta be in breach of some policies.
  25. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the processor market, the atom is an awsome processor. With the uptake of cloud computing growing by the day the atom is here to stay, a processor with enought grunt to be a desktop/or energy efficient enough to be greener than many others. It'll be interesting to see what alternatives become avalible if there isn't any alreddy?
