  1. start looking for bottlenecks. 1.) reading data is too slow, 2.) netwrok bandwidth is limiting the speed, 3.) writing to disk is too slow. Also look for what servers are taking the most time. Do they run sequentially or all at once in parallel? If we assume that you can read at 100MB/s max then backup would take 33 hours minimum.
  2. Indeed - we're struggling this year so i'll be adding space perodically at maybe 500MB a day say to keep up with the growing needs. But at the moment at this size it is impacting learning. following on from other post, we do a full backup each friday to disk and to tape, with full backups of sims and exchange daily. Reason being, sims is small so it's just easier to do it daily, and exchange was taking longer to do a differential than a full, so it had to be changed. Our total storage is 582GB last time we looked, of which 70 was the students server, 105 being the staff server (admins excluded), 40 for exchange and 29 for sims. One thing to note is that no two schools will be the same due to different courses and different ways of teaching.
  3. We're extreemly stingy, users start with 30MB and only go up if they need to/i do bulk resets to the nearest 10MB. we only have years 7 to 11 and most year 11's have 150MB to 200MB sizes. School has 750 pupils and total student areas add up to less than 50GB.
  4. We're struggling with 10 fibers as it is and need to add more. Anyone got any surjestions on a switch with multtiple GBIC and miniGBIC interface slots? looking for 10+ GBIC and as many miniGBIC as poss (about another 10)
  5. My boss has told me some books are avalible, but i dont know much else. A quick search returned News - The Joomla Book - A Users Guide to Joomla 1.5. Hope this helps.
  6. I've tried it, and it worked fine for me, using the latest VirtualBox. Also used an ISO image with all of the network drivers i could find with CC4.
  7. Sorry what i ment is; there is a wave within google wave that you need before you can invite people.
  8. You need someone to wave the invite wave to you. (I think)
  9. PM with e-mail for an invite.
  10. so you use ubuntu as host and virtualbox into an RM? whats it like?
  11. I had a simular issue installing ubuntu within virtual box, i upgraded my virtual box to the latest one and made sure ACPI was on. All works fine and dandy. A note for if your using it withing Virtual box, make sure you use the brigding adaptor when configuring a network card. That way it hangs on the network like a real box.

    Exchange 2010

Just as a little joke https://10.218.164.8/exchweb/bin/auth/owalogon.asp?url=https://10.218.164.8/exchange/&reason=0 - we've had 2010 for over a year now. And yes this is our production server.
  13. you have to be sent the invite wave apparently.
  14. we still have 16 invites, PM me your addresses and i'll add you to the invites.
  15. We have it too here.... find it rubbish. It's just a front end to an access database.
  16. It's not bad.... Fail to see the point really.
  17. I'm not sure i understand this. What is LX/SX?.
  18. trying to go switch to switch atm so only down an orange fiber.
  19. The thing i love about ubuntu is that for me as a tech it does just work. If it doesn't google normaly has the answer or someone on a forum does. Or i work it out (which i did when installing Xibo on 9.10 in a sun virtualbox on my RM cc4 client and then sharing it accross the network for remote displays.)
  20. i've always had issues moving full time to ubuntu as i'm a dual screen person, and none of my dual head graphics cards have worked. also if your just playing with it, save the hastle of dual booting and run it within sun virtual box.
  21. Which is better and can my fiber handle both? i've herd that orange fibers, like this one, are multimode and yellow ones are single mode. Is that correct?
  22. the cisco convertor end, 1000base-lx 1300nm laser, 21cfr(j) class 1 the other enda finisar ftrj-8519-3-2.5 850nm, 21 cfr(j) class 1 cable says; optical cable - 62.5/125 fiber ofnr (ul) c (ul) 00878 feet 807006 i'm guessing that the 1300nm and 850nm mean i have incompatable FO transeivers/convertors?
  23. I have some cisco convertors (gbic) and a mini gbic convertor i brought off ebay and an orange SC to LC fiber patch. when i connect them up it doesn't work. What am i missing? I have tried swapping the cores over at one end incase it was miss fibered, but nothing. Going from a linksys slm2024, to a 3com superstack3. thanks
  24. If your after an invite i have access to about 25. Just PM me your e-mail address.
