We get teaching staff to sign an AUP when they're issued with their laptop, otherwise there's a logon notice saying that by clickong OK they agree to the terms of the AUP etc etc, and that copies of the AUP are available from all good retail outlets. No....wait....are available from Reception and are posted in all computer rooms.

No. I was lying. Edit: Actually, Friday morning, I got a panic call to set-up AV in a hall the other side of the school for an assembly. No call logged, no notice, nothing. As I was in the middle of building an image for a room full of new machines, I point-blank refused and didn't hear another word about it. Don't know (or care) if the assembly was held or not, with or without the AV. Made me realise that those things that are 'Really, Really Important' are only important in that member of staff's head, nowhere else.

One of our 'new, keen' governors kept suggesting a Facebook account for the school. After a quick search on FB, I found three other pages, all under the school name, none of them 'official'. I don't like the idea myself, too fraught with difficulties and too demanding for us to administer properly. I did a bit of research on here, some of you may remember the thread, most you probably won't and gave the results to the Head, suggesting that perhaps if the 'new keen' governor is so convinced that it would improve communication, heighten awareness blah etc, then said 'new, keen' governor should be offered the chance to run and administer the page. I believe the offer was made, I believe it was turned down.............end of School Facebook page. @witch Could try making the same offer to your 'new, keen' governor. Worked a treat here

As someone else said, Swiftcover were cheapest for me for the first couple of years, but even they've been slowly creeping up last year and the year before and I'll bet it increases this year, too. I can't be a***d to do it, but I wonder if the cheapest way is to change insurers every 2 years, to get the new customer discounts and all the other discounts that go with it.....a bit like changing energy suppliers every year.

Otherwise.....staring out the window, occasionally turning round to stare out the door, updating my Retirement Countdown on the whiteboard every day (91 weeks and 6 days), saying 'No, we can't ' to everyone because that's my Snr Tech's preferred method of working, drinking too much coffee, wandering around desperately trying to find something meaningful to do to stave off the boredom, poking one of the receptionists on the arm with my finger because she hits me with whatever printout she has handy whenever I pass her desk, keying the two-way radio and dragging my fingernail across the mic (that goes out all over the school, that does, tee-hee), slowly going barking la-la, wishing I was somewhere else (does that count as two separate things or one?), playing with the Vmware host and VM's I created to find out how it all works (no requirement there, just for my own CPD/satisfaction), going to upgrade it to ESXi 5 but I'm saving that for a special occasion..........gosh, look.......time for another cup of coffee already. Get the picture?

Don't allow desktops here, I've enforced a standard colour desktop, jade-ish or gray for the staff and maroon (school uniform colour) for the kiddie-winkies. Weren't you all just waiting for me to come along and throw a damper on things?

I've said many times on here that I intend getting the hell out of Dodge and taking my pension with me as soon as it's financially viable, and these are some of the very reasons why. Throw in unpredictable weather, lack of sunshine hours, salary cuts, wage freezes, pension freezes, energy price increases and so on, and I can't really see many reasons for staying. But no one's ever neg-repped me for saying so. If whoever neg-repped @LosOjos wants to do the same to me, feel free, I don't care. It's not going to change my attitude, my experience, my professionalism or, more importantly, the state of this country. But hey, it might make you feel better. It's 92 weeks and 6 days, by the way, before it becomes financially viable. Then it's Get My Coat and Sunglasses all the way to the South Pacific.

2012? More of the same, I guess........as I said in another thread.......no money, no plans, no strategy, no direction, so....no change there, then. Only plan is to replace a room full of ageing Mac Minis with new Dells. Otherwise, we'll keep running on our own inertia. On a more positive note, I can start saying that I'm retiring next year.

It was great when I lived there, some really good pubs, King's Head, Hope & Anchor, the one up by Tufnell Park tube (can't remember the name now), but first-child came along and it was time to put away those things and move out of London for greener fields, fresher air and a more laid-back lifestyle.

Holloway was one of my old stamping grounds, used to live in St. Georges Avenue, off Tufnell Park Road.

Gosh.........maybe it's time to rescue my Atart 1024ST with matching monitor and external floppy from the loft at my ex's.
