How do you exercise more domination in a tournament than by beating every team you play? I must be missing something.

Of course we're the best team in the Northern Hemisphere, we just beat every other team, didn't we? And as for not running away and racking up a huge points difference every game....that doesn't matter, a win is a win is a win, as I'm sure every other national rugby fan would say in the same position. The time for that will come soon enough.....as soon as Mike Phillips starts delivering early ball from a ruck. I sometimes think his decision-making goes a bit awry too, but who am I to cricticise, I haven't played the game since my schooldays. Not sure about Rhys Priestland either........seems to me like the Fly Half Factory has gone into reduced production for some reason. Let's not forget the massive margin by which England won the World Cup......a whole 3 points. The fact is that English rugby has lived off that World Cup win, and Johnny Wilkinson's penalties for far too long....even in the run-up to last year's WC, the BBC were still playing the 'Johnny Wilkinson drops for World Cup Glory' commentary clip. When Wilkinson got too bashed up to play at the top of his game, their whole game-plan went out the window, and the RFU took way too long to firstly, realise it, and secondly, do something about it. Results don't lie, and a third Grand Slam in 7 years tells its own story. Wales have a good mix of age and experience, youth and enthusiasm, and a coach who could probably get a job coaching any other side in the north or south. The real test will come in the summer, and I fear for the confidence of some of the younger players if we take too much of a bashing. It's become a very technical game, with far too many technical penalties, which I've thought, for a while now, could be reduced to free-kicks, but then, of course, players will deliberately infringe, because they know they're not going to give away 3 points. I was worn out after the France game, I was confident we'd win, but you never know which French team are going to turn up, and perhaps if they'd played in the first-half as they played in the second, things might have been different. Perhaps. Ho-hum, a whole year until the next 6 Nations.

It's just fashion, after all, isn't it. Right now, it's fashionable to be on the move, connected, staying in touch, updating your Facebook (how many more mentions is Facebook going to get on here this week? Are they paying one of us? Is this Product Placement by stealth?), tweeting and so on and so forth. A bit like the '90's Man' fad that surfaced as a backlash to the Harry Enfield 'Loadsamoney'/Michael Douglas 'Greed is Good' culture of the 80's. Back in the day, dumb terminals connected to a mainframe somewhere were THE way of working, then that was replaced by a pc on every desk. Now, with VDI and thin clients, we're back to, basically, dumb terminals connected to a mainframe of sorts. What goes around comes around.....sooner or later we'll all go back to hand-writing to each other (if, after Netbooks, iPads, BYOD etc, there are any people left in the world who can actually STILL hand-write) and talking to each other. Perish THAT thought.

Our Head and I looked at this a while ago, in response to a request from one of the Governors. Neither of us were very keen on the idea, we both felt it would be the digital equivalent of having the school graffiti'd every night. I'd be prepared to look at it again, but only if I was sure that I wouldn't be involved in setting it up, securing it, uploading content etc. As I can't be assured of that, we're both happy to stay as we are. When I was a parent of school-age children, I sometimes felt that their schools tried to communicate too much, and that eventually, what was important communication could get lost in amongst all the dross that was sent home with the kids. Just saying.....

I have it disabled more on principle than anything else. We had a problem for a while with the Intel graphics control panel in the system tray, kids/teachers rotating the screen etc. I stamped on that, by disabling Rotation and removing the icon from the system tray. But I notice some of the latest drivers don't have the 'disable rotation' anymore. TBH, I don't have the time to look at it again, I've had no requests about enabling the Context Menu, so until then, it'll stays disabled.

Going on shift in the (mainframe) computer room at Cardiff Uni one Monday at 4pm (evening shift 4 -10.30), taking a handover from Day Shift Leader,.... 'There's an aircon engineer out the back (in the plant room), he says he might have to switch the aircon off for five minutes or so. Work-wise is doing some testing on the new Multijob version.' Me: 'Ok, cool, see ya later, have a good one'. Stand around for five minutes, reading the shift diary and half-listening to the systems guy nattering on about stuff that's completely obsolete now, all of a sudden there's a loud bang and CO2 starts pouring out of the fire-suppression system. The systems guy says 'Is it supposed to do that?', 'No, it's not, you'd better get out, quick'. Hit the Emergency Off button, vacate the computer-room, and watch through the windows in the door as the room slowly fills with CO2. I remember, when it was all fixed and the aircon had pumped the room out, everything covered with sticky brown droplets, the ICL engineers going into overdrive to inspect everything, and the air, funnily enough, tasting of lemonade. I miss mainframe operations. Sometimes.

It was when we started getting into mutation at school, e.g. Yng Hymru(?) that I decided I'd rather learn Russuian or Azerbaijani or Pashtu, anything else at all, really. I eventually decided on English, but still having trouble with it.

The picture looks good enough to eat, let alone the cakes. My mum never made them, as she was brought up in Sittingbourne and only moved to Wales after the war, when she married my dad. My Grandma used to make them and always brought us a biscuit tin full every Thursday. Usually gone by Friday tea-time. All this talk of welsh cakes, laverbread and cockles has made me really hungry.

Used to be a restaraunt in Crwys Road, Cardiff called 'Y'r Ystafell Cymraeg', specialised in Welsh Cuisine. Of course, because I lived there and wasn't a tourist, I never tried it. 'Loose a day with Brains SA' Laverbread......fried in bacon fat......on toast......to die for.
