  1. Slowly migrating staff laptops and pc's to Win 7 x64. I want to migrate to 7 and have images built ready for the curriculum pc's, but.......wait for it.......my Senior Tech hasn't even looked at Windows 7, still runs XP, and the only time he tried to install a printer on a W7 staff laptop, I had to re-image it and do it myself. I don't want to be in a position where I'm the only one (of two) that can support 450 W7 boxes, so we're at a bit of an impasse.
  2. I'm up for £40 worth of that. Can we raise £5grand between us?
  3. Cool, but treads a fine line with the rules.......No symbols.
  4. Talking of fuel scoops...................... After Elite and Frontier, I had to get First Encounters (which I still have and manage to get running occasionally). After the first month or so, I'd bought a fuel/cargo scoop and was pirating my way round etc., I noticed that the fuel/cargo scoop was really difficult to scoop cargo up with. I thought 'Bug' and phoned the Help Line. Chatting with the Tech guy, he said, 'You have to get really close to the cargo before it'll work, are you getting close enough.' My reply, 'I'm getting close enough to read the writing on the cargo pod'. There was a pause and then he said, 'What writing................?' Thanks, Tech Guy........How about playing the game you're supposed to be supporting. It wasn't a bug though, I finally got the hang of it. So I'm gonna go home, think about it some more and then maybe have £40 worth........if it ever gets made, then at least my name will go down in some kind of posterity. I really hope it does get produced, the gaming world is crying out for it.

    want.....

Well, Christmas is coming.....get your letter off to Santa and if you're a good boy.......girl.......uhhhh......person, you never know what you might find in your stocking on Christmas morning. I like the bottom one on that page, the bare one in the glass/perspex enclosure. Not sure I'd pay nearly $300 for one, though.
  6. I never even knew most of those 'networking' sites existed. No wonder I don't have many friends. I feel so left out. Not.
  7. WebHelpDesk will enable you to do that. What's more, if you can or need to set-up cross-charging of depts for time, parts, labour etc, you can do that too. You'll also be able to track devices or users which are constantly needing repair or support.
  8. What is the sound of a blind man avoiding certain paths?
  9. Hey, thanks for the vids, thoroughly enjoyed watching them all. About the same feeling of serenity as watching a hot air ballon flight. I especially like the one from within the old keep, castle, tower, whatever........which I realise now, you must have done blind, as it were. I'm very, very tempted to have a go myself.......I need a new outdoor pursuit. Since I gave up refereeing, I've missed being outdoors, with a purpose other than playing in the garden with the grandboys.
  10. Some really nice videos on this thread, and it all looks like an interesting, fun pastime. How is the video captured? Beamed back to a laptop on the ground or to a SDcard or what?
  11. Can anyone imagine a school run by Capita?
  12. A MS Surface with everything or a Dell Vostro laptop? Decisions, decisions, decisions..........................
  13. ........and running, and screaming. At the risk of laying myself open to all manner of 'witty' comments...........................I want some of what you're on.

    Printing!

I can't tell you how much we print, we don't run a management system. I can tell you that we are a normal sized secondary school.......that has 56 printers networked about the site. I've worked all over the private sector, all over the country, and abroad and I've never worked anywhere with so many printers. So......I think we print too much, and that 90% of it is garbage.
  16. Yeah, I watched some of it last year on webcast, but couldn't hear it properly and it wasn't like the Real Thing, if you know what I mean. So I thought I might make the effort this year.....next year....whenever it is, before I bow gracefully out.
  17. Thanks for that, I'll have to trawl through my Inbox for the bar-code. I remember printing it off a while ago, but it's disappeared somewhere in the office. Not so sure about the scanning bit, I'll have to be really selective about the enquiries I make.......I don't want to be inundated with spam from all and sundry. What about the Edugeek conference....when's that?
  18. Is 'getting a ticket' the same as 'registering to attend'? I've registered to attend, but whether I'll be able to or not is debateable as my Snr Tech likes to go every year. Doesn't come back with anything, goodies, freebies or ideas, but he likes to attend. I'd like to come along though, as I'm hoping against hope this will be my last year in EduIT, and I'd like to put faces to nicknames before I leave.
  19. Let me reassure you...........you weren't.
  20. Haven't got my Z3 yet. And btw, what happened to 'Leave a good-looking corpse'? Not that I can do that anymore, either.
  21. too old to rock'n'roll, too young to die.
  22. No. Firefly's re-running on the Horror Channel and I always end up like this when it's on. Apropos of nothing, since I read my first sci-fi book, at about 10 years old, (can't remember the title, it was a collection of short stories by A.E. van Vogt), I've always felt incredibly cheated that I was born too early for real space exploration....colonizing new planets, discovering new life-forms, encountering alien cultures. And then, of course, as is our human way, laser-blasting them to a crisp.
  23. The 'populous with IQ<90' probably won't even notice until he's been on the Jeremy Kyle show.
  24. Maybe he's really an E.T. and really, he's trying to go home and the parachute is a fail-safe in case the intergalactic worm-hole-portal-star-trek-beam-me-up-scotty thing doesn't work or open. Or if it does open, but his return ticket's expired. I mean, where I live, you can't even get back from London on the train if your ticket's out of date. Just saying......
  25. Personally, I think it's great, can't wait to see the footage. Just one thing bothers me. Why Roswell? I mean, I know it's the New Mexico desert and he's not liable to land on anything or anyone, but .....why Roswell? Why not White Sands or Area 51.........why Roswell, with all it's (alleged) history of stuff falling from space? Just asking.......
