  1. The message that pops up when logged on is "Windows cannot log you on to 3Com" Then another windows cannot connect you to your prefered wireless network.
  2. we have a redirected start menu and just create the shortcut manually. If you have any experience editing msi you could always manually create a shortcut within the msi.
  3. To be honest because of the amount of time it is taking i have reset the access point to wep and i am just manually setting the key on each laptop. There are 60 to do and they need them yesterday. I think i will come back to this one a bit later once everything has settled down. The connection is set to automatic. as i need this to connect when the laptop starts up incase there are any gpo updates. the wireless in the corner does nothing and then just pops up with a message saying cannot connect to 3com, plus if it is the drivers or the built in card, then i am going to have to find another way as all 60 have the same spec. Thanks again for all your help tho.
  4. It never connects at all even if i set it manually, it just says cannot connect to 3com or something on the lines of that. Drivers are the new from the realtek site.
  5. here are the screenshots of the edit part, blured out certificate as it is schools name. Was under the assumption the card was just 802.11b/g.
  6. I dont think cachepilot works in that way, luckily here we have not had any issues with kids realising going via the ip address, surely tho shouldn't smartfilter also register the ip address to and block that as well. Try getting in touch with someone from easynet, do you have any contacts for them, think my boss may have someone's number. Have a word with them.
  7. Yeah joined laptop to domain. Wireless is builtin to laptop and is realtek 8187B Self signed certificate is imported in trusted root certfication authority on the laptop in question and on the IAS server. plus on the dc where the group policy is applied. When i log on the laptop is just says "could not connect to Wireless SSID Have attached screenshot, the laptop is in the group on the screenshot.
  8. Yeah i have the groups set up right, i have created a group called wireless and put the laptops in that group, is that all i need to do. I have checked that the shared secret is the same. I am just trying now to create the certificate again as i think i made a mistake last time. Other than that i cant think of anything else.
  9. I have been playing around with this for a while now, and am about to give up, went through all the documentation and set up up IAS and created a group policy and certificates using selfssl. I configured the wireless access point to look at the radius server, and set it using WPA and TKIP, on the machine i want wireless to connect from, it just get the error that it could not authenticate. Not sure where i could of went wrong, or if it is the access point or some setting i have missed.
  10. This is the contents of our sims.ini file [setup] SIMSDotNetDirectory=C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net SIMSDirectory=K:\SIMS\ SIMSSetupsDirectory=\\server\share\sims\Setups [installationLogs] SIMSApplicationSetup.exe=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\SIMSApplicationSetup.log SIMSInfrastructureSetup.exe=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\SIMSInfrastructureSetup.log [Machine] Infrastructure=1.00
  11. I am having the same error here too, i think i have found the problem, in c:\windows\sims.ini on each pc i had to add the line SIMSSetupsDirectory=server/share/setups This seemed to solve the problem.
  12. I am knackered but i am off next week, am currently in process of buying a house so i have the added stress of mortgages and other money worries.
  13. Only time we had a problem with strange noises coming from a machine, was one of the staff laptops the mic had been turned on and he was saying he could hear clicking noises as he was typing, turned out to be as he typed the mic was playing him typing through the speakers.
  14. Cya Zak have a great time, make sure you take loads of photos and show us them all.
  15. We block this here the line is that "it is not educational" although i cant say i have ever seen anything on it that is that bad, i guess some games could be though as violent.
  16. Out of curiosity why do you want to add the email address in the email line in AD, we also use the mymail system and just wondered what you were planning to do.
  17. I agree with above comment i would set them all to force a password change and put it down to due to other members of staff not changing there default password, and push the point that passwords are meant to be secure.
  18. I can see the whole room of laptops thing going belly up here, as other have said the cost to get them repaired will often mean sending them away for a few days, where as we might of been able to get them up and running that day. But i will be going "i told you so" when the day comes that they realize they should of listened to us.
  19. It is not yet decided how they will be connected, it might be wireless, we also getting a laptop trolley of 30 .
  20. Well SMT here have decided to go against our judgment and are swapping out a IT suite of 60 PC's for a room of 60 laptops and a laptop cabinet.
  21. I have been put on a training course recently and i was not asked to sign any agreements in case i left school during. Personally i wouldn't as this should of been something up front. As others have said, tell them you have to speak to your union first, but on another note surely once the training has been paid for you cant really stop the person from attending and expect money back. Could they really get you removed from the course as your registered under your name and not that of the school.
  22. Our staff are able to access desktop and start menu offline. We redirected the desktop inside there mydocuments folder so the desktop comes across with there my documents. For the start menu, on gpo go to User configuration/admin templates/network/offlinefiles/administratively assigned offline files, in files and folders add the value which would be the share for start menu.
  23. Wahey i am 1st.
  24. Why did they not want you in school
  25. Have three vista laptops here and XP through out, server 2003 on servers. The vista machines are a complete nightmare, they have problems on the domain, they don't pick up group policies. I admit we have just got them, so there maybe some fix out there i don't know about, but at the moment i would happily change back to XP. I have suggested it over and over, but some reason they want to keep trying vista even though they moan and complain about it, surely using what you already know would be the better option.
