Don't bother, they have outsourced their support and tech guys and there callout times and reliability is shocking to say the least. We'll be replacing their boxes (our screens) with a standard Digital Signage box.

we just use SIMS as well, and insert a grade and a comment for each student, then this gets piped out to a printable word document. (All the money sims has and they still use mailmerge!) anyway it works fine and with SLG, makes a good parental report to view online

Hello, We are currently running a centos linux box with squid/dansguardian and NTLM auth for web filtering. (SARG for user reports) Its worked well for 3 yr but with us wanting to demote our last 2003 DC, we need either an updated or alternative solution as it dont work with 2008! (mainly kerberos issues, in the fact you need it rather than relying on legacy ntlm like 2003) Has anyone got the latest versions of squid/kerberos working with authentication with 2008 yet? Currently working through this guide here active directory - Getting Squid to authenticate with kerberos and Windows 2008/2003/7/XP - Server Fault but just wondered if anyone has found anything else in the mean time? It needs to be free and have transparent user tracking. Just need to get squid talking to 2008 first, ill worry about DG/Sarg later on

theres an open source copy called CamStudio, free and just as good as camtasia! Doing help vids with it is great, but like camtasia id always use it in conjunction with something like adobe premiere (or premiere elements, or any decent vid editing software) to create the finished articles. They go well with either voice commentary or Text to speech. My first IT job was for a dot.com bubble startup making instructional videos for the likes of Office etc. Went bust when the rest did but gave me a years experience on camtasia lol.

we use fronter heavily here too with intergrated mail We are planning on leaving within 18months, moving to moodle instead, it fits what we use fronter for. And possibly zimbra for mail. Main fronter complaints are the webmail is far too basic these days and fronter never seems to be updated, well for what we need anyway. Stuff like illuminate isn't required.

Our main CCTV was originally ADT installed but the PVR was limited to 16 Cams and crap. We binned ADT, now fit cameras in house and have upgraded our pvr to a 4tb 32channel box. Between getting the new box, we did fit a few cameras panasonic pan/tilt ones in a few ICT rooms, recording to an ActiveWebcam server. All worked fine, and still does till we eventually replace them to be on the main system. Most people accept CCTV in school as the norm these days. Classrooms/Toilets may be not a good idea, but ICT Suites\Isolation (to protect staff more like as alot of kids are 1 on 1 with stadd) corridors shouldnt be a problem

Ok file upload issue fixed by editing the repository_ajax.php file, changing @header('Content-type: text/plain'); to @header('Content-type: text/html'); and sticking it after echo $OUTPUT->header(); // send headers regarding enrolling all students, trickydicky has the right idea but i think ill just do user-self enrollment and just hide the 'do you want to enrol' page.

Thanks for the two replies. See your points about it. We defo can't go down the enrolment key route due to a few things (best not to ask lol), so maybe allowing students to enrol themselves in each course is an alternative. Regarding the uploader thats a shame, ill see if the have a work around, may just look at 1.9.

Hi there, Im currently testing moodle as a possible alternative to fronter, with the eventual intention of replacing fronter and frontermail with moodle and zimbra possibly. Anywhoo, I have moodle setup on a test box, LDAP import and userauth with AD is working fine however I have a couple of embarrasingly simple questions. I basically want to by default, let ALL students access all courses with no enrolment options (Ie. they can click on a course, it lets them in to view/use it, no 'do you want to enrol or anything, just straight in), any courses which I would later create for staff only, id simply disable enrollment and auto assign staff. Anyway in previous versions of moodle, doing the OPPOSITE of the below instructions would work. 'If the default role for all users in Site Administration > Users > Permissions > User policies is set to student rather than authenticated user (the default setting), this will result in all students being enrolled in all courses. ' Now seeing as im using version 2, when I goto 'Site Administration > Users > Permissions > User policies' , it is set as authenticated user but in the drop down there are no other options so I can't select Student. Any ideas anyone? Secondary, when creating a folder 'container' in a course, the file upload prompts me to download the repository_ajax.php file, rather than just upload my file. Im assuming this is a slight mis-config of php on the server, php itself in general is working ok, but is there any includes or apache extras I have to enable? Any help will be most helpful! Some people may be asking why I want to do this, basically our fronter is setup the same way, all students can see all course content, we have no discussion bits etc so abuse wouldnt happen. Im trying to get it as simple as possible to avoid the envitable 'oh its different we dont like it' attitude. We have our reasons for wanting to move away from fronter, too numerous to mention.

we use TightVNC's beta 2 and it works fine. server works fine with realvnc or most clients also.
