Surely if you just blocked *.facebook.com (or .*) they would all be blocked automatically?

Well after all the debate in the media about it, you kind of have to dont you!
-
I used it on an old xbox until very recently Probably not much help for the PC version though

Why would you want to swap? First off I assume its from a garage, so they have to be getting something out of the deal, ie your car with less miles on potentially worth more than the Astra (?). How are you benefiting from the deal? With £35 road tax too, no, theres no way I would do the swap!

Fair enough. I'll have to find out exactly which bits they need. How do you setup multiple machines with Logic at your place?
-
Worked a treat, upgraded using a first gen intel imac and it boots fine now. Thanks again

Re: Logic's huge install - is there a way for it to access all the instruments/samples/loops off a network share? Because it's going to take about a day to image one machine with an image that size! (And we've got 50 new iMacs that need it) At present I've installed it without all that stuff, hoping to fidn a solution later.

Next week here, though I'd forgotten about that until today. Only 2 days off but good enough for me

Ahh, that could well be it then. I was using a 10.5.1 DVD and I think the installs on the hard disk are 10.5.4....should be able to update those on an older machine though. Thanks

Got a brand spanking new 20" imac here that ive been preparing an image on. Wanted to boot off my firewire drive to take said image, I hold down option, select the boot volume, the disk clicks a bit, screen goes black, then grey, then it boots off the internal HD. Thought it may well be the drive or the partition is screwed or something so went to reinstall OSX on that drive, but it wont boot from DVD either! Does the same, accesses the disc for a second or so, screen blanks, boots to HD. I've tried this with and without the external HD connected. Why cant I boot off anything?!

No staff photos in SIMS here, and again I dont imagine it would be too popular, especially as there's no real reason for it. If it was for ID cards then fair enough. I wouldnt be rushing to get my photo taken for it myself

tell me about it quick count, 54 colour printers (not all lasers but at least 40 are), 67 mono lasers
-
*sigh* almost every teacher has at least a b+w laser in their classroom, quite a few have colour lasers. We've I think just bought one for a room that is about 5 metres away from another room with a colour laser. 5 seconds walk away. Disgraceful waste of money but teachers rule here if we say no it gets pushed through by SMT

Theres a lot of babble there but no real mention of what they're going to DO with them? Aside from allowing them on wireless (I'm guessing the majority of kids dont have phones with wireless on them yet anyway) theres nothing. They mention smartphones to record data, but they were probably all the same model, and preconfigured for that use. How are you going to achieve that with a myriad of different devices?

Teacher has strange problems with Smart Notebook docs
sidewinder replied to sidewinder's topic in Windows
Not entirely sure, will have to check but I very much doubt its the absolute latest version so perhaps an update could help, thanks -
One of the teachers here continually seems to have problems after she'd edited notebook documents. She has got a LOT, probably one of the biggest users of it in the school so I suppose it stands to reason she'll encounter more but recently it seems to happen all the time. She'll update one on a prep room pc, or at home, then when she opens it in her classroom, it'll load the pages then bomb out with 'this software encountered a problem' standard windows error. It then wont open on any other PC. If I open a blank notebook document and drag the offending one in, it'll import the pages (minus pictures and anything fancy) and I can resave and it'll work. But obviously that isnt solving the problem. I first though she was putting flash in there or something but today she just edited some text, resaved and now it wont work. Seems to be the pictures causing the problems as they are the bits that dont import. Obviously I cant sit there when she'd editing one to see exactly what she's doing but she is a pretty tech savvy teacher so I dont think shes doing anything stupid, just basic editing. I'll check her classroom PC to see if theres something on there corrupting them but it seems unlikely. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I know now and again a doc can get corrupted but this is several times a week. It doesnt happen to ANY other teacher. Smart Notebook is version 10 on all machines.

Surely that would stop the slow logons though? The point of redirections is that you specify parts of the profile that dont have to be copied down on logon

Free ZoneAlarm Pro licences up for grabs on Tuesday
sidewinder replied to tech_guy's topic in General Chat
I was about to sign up for it and thought the same thing. I dont use one now, and havent for years, so would I really use this? no -
Of course it will at some point, but shouldnt we try and at least make it last a few generations more? Because at the rate things are going, the population is going to end up being reduced a hell of a lot ovet the next few generations, be that from climate change, resource depletion or food scarcity. Maybe we are all doomed whatever we try but its still worth trying. If anti-green's get their way we wont change one single thing about the way we live as a species, yet its proven the way we live is not sustainable indefinately. Theres no problem if you dont believe or are undecided about man made climate change. No-one can really be 100% sure. But that doesnt mean you have to be anti everything green and dismissive of any change to your lifestyle

Wonder if they've used a bit of common sense this time and made the 'Office Starter' word processor save in something that can be opened by Word...

Seeing Inglorious Basterds tomorrow finally, cant wait. One film that looks good that was released today is Le Donk & Scor-Zay-Zee, the new Shane Meadows film. God knows how many cinemas it'll actually be shown in though

MSI's do work fine for me but I also find that old versions often get left behind. Not sure whether it specifically causes any problems though, as long as it uses the newest version

thats the thing, its meaningless, hence why only this company got the game, bbc/itv knew there would be little interest in it £4.99 is bad enough, on the day they're charging £11.99!!! I wouldnt pay that to watch any football game ever on TV, internet, anything. Not sure who in their right mind a) wants to watch it b) is stupid enough to pay a fiver Hope the company loses out big time on this. They're taking the p1ss with the prices

Our First Student with Health Problems Due to Wireless!!
sidewinder replied to Vegas's topic in General Chat
tbf i'd love it if they decided to get rid of the wireless in this school, instant end to loads of problems and grief
