Yes, and is ebay a reliable method of judging market value? I'd say no - it's as much as people are willing to pay. I'd still use the reuse>recycle thing - only exception really would be where rebate packages could fetch a value such as the HP brighter futures program or recycling companies that would offer rebates.

I looked into this a while ago, and unless anything has changed (would like to see some official information on this) "market value" has no real meaning for equipment that is EOL. The school is usually not in a place to define the market value for an item, especially when researching shows they often go unsold on Ebay or Facebook Marketplace, or given for free. I've always worked on the nominal fee basis, although then again I've not sold anything to staff/students since. Re-use is still ahead of recycle in the WEEE chain though! Edit: I suppose if the school started a company called "WeSellAnyOldCrap" and followed the WeBuyAnyCar market, then they could happily, with legal precedent, sell an entire block of the building for £3.50

I've gone through similar and for the first time ever, had a couple of weeks off last month for stress/anxiety reasons, being very wary of past scares for heart attacks and extremely high blood pressures. The job is never worth it, however I had always convinced myself that I couldn't sit around and do nothing. Sometimes that's *exactly* what you need, even if you don't think it yourself. I'm forever on the lookout for the unicorn job but that's unlikely to come along any time soon, so the first baby steps in recognising when something is getting too much and a) talking to someone about it and b) doing something about it. No job is worth breaking yourself for, nor your family.

I'd look at both Smoothwall and Sophos XG - speak to Wave9 for the latter and Smoothwall directly for the former.

I think it's ideal as a second/backup line, but as a sole primary connection it's risky. The link to X is the owner - you have to wonder if it's still going to be around this time next week/month/year because someone does something a bit silly at the top But if you're paying nothing and it's just a stopgap it's no doubt better than nothing. We're on Gamma and the highest latency we get to pretty much anything is 10ms - I'd have severe questions for them at 38, even when fully loaded and QoS is kicking in!

What are you using for phones? VOIP over starlink might be interesting when the latency starts hitting higher numbers.

Just a straight no here - you're issued a device, use it. If they want to use their own device in school they're welcome to use BYOD (if it works, we're not obliged to make it work) but not for storing any data. As has been mentioned, increase of risk of data going walkabouts. Cybersecurity & GDPR and you're giving them the tools to use otherwise.

No experience but look quite decent for what they are. Wouldn't want anything bigger than 14" any more anyway especially if for student use. And the processor whilst not as quick as a lot out there, is no slower than the higher end gen 9 I5s. With SSD's and 16gb RAM they would appear reasonably decent, price depending.

That sort of thing is generally easier in spreadsheet - so run the report and export to spreadsheet and use the sort function there to work it to your whim.

But if it's just for storage surely that wouldn't matter? All the workload is being done on the scratch disk.
