Oh yes. IT teams doing what's best for them and not their school (necessarily) is definitely a factor. For some, 365 might be a better idea but it's very much an offline suite for business being crowbarred into online use, and then crowbarred again into Education use. G Suite was developed from the ground up with Education in mind alongside it's Enterprise goals. Also the beloved cry of "industry standard" all the way down to primary level. I get it with FE and HE (perhaps) but the idea a 4 year old of today will be using the same software when they're 21 or older can be easily dispelled when you put someone in front of Office 2020 and then stick them in front of a copy of Office 2003 and ask them to have at it. Plus, a lot of work never touches anything but Android these days, or an embedded OS with a custom interface. Or a web based product. So, its a very weak argument. Microsoft Classroom was their clone of Google Classroom that they ditched quickly and integrated some of it's features into Teams, which was it's clone of Slack. Innovators indeed.

I think they'll pick and choose their poison when it comes to exclusivity. I think Deathloop and Ghost Wire Tokyo will come to Xbox as soon as the exclusivity period with Playstation is over. If they don't reboot Quake and make it PC and Xbox exclusive I'll be absolutely gobsmacked. 15 years since Quake 4 (which was Xbox exclusive) and as a franchise it's become a niche arena shooter since. Ripe for going back to the beginning and rebooting to the original Quake, ditching the Quake 2 sci-fi and going full Lovecraftian again. If they don't make Starfield Xbox exclusive I'll be surprised too. Plenty of pickings for franchises to use. Commander Keen, Fallout, Prey, Brink, The Evil Within... Elder Scrolls 6 already announced. Wolfenstein and Doom are already big hits since rebooting. Hexen and Heretic were published by id, but they're Raven Software games, so do Zenimax own those or Activision-Blizzard?

These days, it isn't the show floor that interests me, more than the breakout meetings around the site. So I think this would suit me more so than the show itself. Perhaps it will lead to being able to access those breakouts online in the future. The Microsoft one I went to this year was tightly packed in, in a very small room. I can see myself prefering to watch that online from the comfort of my office or home office... or even the Costa in the main foyer in the future!

Not unless you find some kind of workaround, no. Downloading and saving is a feature of Enterprise. Live streaming so people only watch the Meet, rather than take part in it. We've used it for our staff first meeting of the year to announce changes and updates, and it's available to our heads of year for assemblies. I mean it's all relative. Give me G Suite Admin over the nightmare Microsoft provides any day! It could be better though. That's true.

The other thing to note is that because G Suite is a native cloud product, that's how people work. They open a file in Drive, and it opens in the relevant editor. The amount of times I've seen people use O365 by downloading the file they want to work on, save it locally, editing it and uploading it (or not uploading it and being confused as to why it's the old file). But yes, like jmak has said. You're likely to move at some point as the rest of the Academy is already on 365, but it needs to be properly planned and strategised when it happens. But definitely not right now.

Fair enough. In my opinion, if a school is unwilling to protect their staff and can't provide covid protection and don't consider you in a risk assessment, then in my opinion it's a matter for your union. In my opinion.

Risk assessments are not the be all and end all though, and if the risk assessment is poor simply having one will not stop an organisation ending up in court for negligence. Especially if you aren't even considered on said risk assessment. Perhaps your school is different but my school and everyone in the area I live in is isolating the teachers who've been in an infected bubble, alongside any pupil.

Stick with G Suite. The middle of a pandemic is not the time to switch. Like Primus, I think G Suite is the better platform anyway.

No I agree with that. It should go to yourself and/or your compliance/GDPR officer. Well that's where you have the right to reject it. The vendor is the issue if they're asking for information they don't need. That's a true GDPR issue.

Well that's the thing. If you turn off Quick Access, they have to request to join unless they are invited to the calendar. Or you could create Meeting slots and get people to book into the time slot they want, which will create all your Meets for you. I wouldn't invite people to the calendar if it's one big Meet, I would just share the link to the Meet with a time for the person to join it. Are they using the student login? With GfE you need a Google account of some sort to join Google Meets now.

I can't speak to which partner to use, but a single day's training will only be enough to introduce them. People are going to need continuous training as features and tools are released, changed and updated.

When is a bubble not a bubble? When the bubble has been popped. There's definitely a definitely about it. It's bad enough teachers are moving between bubbles, if you're then asking technicians and support staff to wander between them too, then you haven't got bubbles. Are you logging every classroom you've visited as you go? If a student tests positive, and you've moved between the bubbles, you're a conduit to passing the virus through the bubbles and you'll need to know where you've been and when.

When you create a Meet in Calendar (or you're the first one in if its in Classroom/Adhoc) then you should have a little blue shield on the white bar at the bottom, next to the Meeting Details. Should be in there. If not, it's still rolling out to you but it shouldn't be too long before it appears. This is just the first step too. It's going to be integrated into Google Calendar, so when you create a meeting in Google Calendar, you can set quick access on or off when you create a calendar entry. At the moment, quick access is on until you enter the meeting.

Really? I've found Wonde is very transparent in telling you what data access is being requested by each vendor as the request is made, and any change requests are made. I don't think I've ever seen Wonde request carte blanche access.
