  1. Of course I forgot to add, in order to take part in student hubs, students need to verify their account. So blocking emails from discord will stop anyone using the student hub functionality. Because of course, if it didn't work like that, it would be even bigger a safeguarding concern, cause just about anyone could jump in to a school hub and talk to underage children. Pretty creepy.
  2. ParentPay, Schoolcomms and SIMS are not listed on the exhibitors list for BETT 2022 currently.
  3. At it's very basic: Discord are allowing students to manage their own chat rooms, under their school's name without school interaction Discord are allowing students to advertise chat servers to each other that won't just contain students, but anyone from anywhere Discord already have a very lax attitude towards adult content Discord are profiling students and using school domain email addresses to collate registers of students and their location/school Just those four points alone are enough for me to put the blocks on Discord doing this for our schools in any way I can.
  4. Its going to be part of your job to push and ask them why they're so hesitant. I had the same issue and the answer was "we don't want to rock the boat". Eventually I left because they were flippantly transigent and they were a school that didn't fulfil my ambitions and were happy to be stuck in the past. They decided they were happy with students using Google Docs, but staff had to use Office because "I don't like the way the tables are formatted". Literally throwing £5k at licensing a year because of the table formatting. They're organisations that need screaming at, frankly.
  5. I get this on my second monitor (Hyundai) if there is a HDMI connection problem. I know its a different manufacturer, but there is an outside chance their panels are the same? I've swapped the cable out a few times to get it working. Could it be something to do with that perhaps?
  6. SIMS 8, now available with hen's teeth SIMS 8, when hell freeze's over SIMS 8 - released on the 12th of Never "EES SIMS announces Duke Nukem as product spokesman for SIMS 8" It has been 1686 days since they first announced SIMS 8 with the press release and the flash Next Generation SIMS website. It's about time we all put our foot down and started calling SIMS 8 what it is. Vaporware. Their blog post last month made it clear that SIMS 8 is basically cancelled and won't be coming out. They're basically going to RDP SIMS .net instead and that is their "Next gen project" https://www.ess-sims.co.uk/resources/blog/next-generation-sims It is pathetically laughable.
  7. Rumour is that KOTOR will be the Kevin Feige produced Star Wars movie, directed by Chloe Zhao (Eternals) If it's true. I bet we'd hear more on Friday (Disney+ Day)
  8. Completely agree with what you say but still...
  9. Another attempt to go for Chromebooks, another misfire.
  10. Your'e not serious. You cannot be serious. Not about this, or evidently your job. Hijack the account. I give up. I'm not engaging with you on this any longer, there is no reasoning.
  11. But once again, we're not facilitating it. Allowing those email addresses to link makes it easier. Yes, a list of servers, lots I'm sure ran by the kids who'll instantly ban any staff looking accounts and containing people from all walks of life, everywhere... and all it will take is one rogue parent to take over an account. And not even that. If a kid creates a list on their own steam, then there isn't anything we can do about that. We can stop them autocollating them and advertising them to everyone within the same school domain.
  12. You seem to be ignoring that the server isn't school exclusive, and it can be any server from anywhere in the world. OK... Great. So what you're saying is, we should let Discord harvest our student emails because they might use a third party service to do this anyway, so let's allow a multimillion dollar corporation collate the children together and allow them to advertise servers across the student body, filled with people who aren't, in a much easier and simpler way. Do you realise this argument isn't the slam dunk you think it is, don't you? "They're going to do it anyway...." Which would require you to use an email to sign up. So let's facilitate this by essentially creating a school membership list on their behalf. Yes, but schools shouldn't be facilitating this, which is what allowing this will do. So another safeguarding matter where teachers can communicate with pupils through systems we can't audit. Fantastic. Just what we need to protect kids eh? Even better, the server owners are responsible, so the kids will just kick the staff out. Fab. Great system this is. Once again https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/4407546283031-Discord-Student-Hubs-Guidelines NOTE TO ALL HUB MEMBERS Please be mindful that: Hubs are not affiliated with or managed by a school or school staff. Servers in a Hub are student-run but may include non-students. NOTE TO SERVER OWNERS AND MODERATORS OF SERVERS IN A HUB Server owners and moderators are responsible and accountable for their server's affiliation in a Student Hub.
  13. I would absolutely watch a new Quantum Leap with Scott Bakula taking on the Al role, and a new actor playing Sam. Straight reboot at this point though.
  14. I've left BETT after 8pm because of after-hours events with exhibitors. Accessing the DLR at this time was awful. Once again, BETT's location is a problem for anyone who lives anywhere that isn't Central or North East London. When will they learn it needs to move again, to Birmingham or Manchester. Or maybe alternate venues every year. Most people I know only tend to go to one in every three anyway.
  15. I wouldn't wait for Patty Jenkins if Wonder Woman 1984 is anything to go by!
  16. Incorrect. It's a list of servers created by your students, that your students can advertise to each other. Schools are not involved in the slightest, and the severs could include people who are not from your school. Like creating an account. They're not being tricked into talking to people pretending to be from their school, and this system doesn't limit them to talking to just people from your school. No, but you shouldn't enable them either. https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406046651927-Discord-Student-Hubs-FAQ Is this a Discord partnership with high schools/colleges? Hubs are not officially affiliated with or managed by schools. A Student Hub is a collection of student-run servers. The Hub’s function is to make it easier for classmates to find and join one another’s servers if they choose to do so. One disgruntled or alterior motive driven parent hijacked account later...
  17. Good question. Will the numbers for that half day dissipate through Wed-Fri, try to head their on the Friday or just not go any more?
  18. As it stands, no. BETT flu is bad as it is, I'd rather not risk it whilst figures are this high.
  19. Secondary on Bromcom. Primary on SIMS. Yes, please feel to PM me.
  20. Mortal Kombat. Absolute bilge.
  21. They need a personal email address to set up a Discord. Sorry, but I don't think its for schools to facilitate Discord bringing student groups together. We already have enough issues with WhatsApp/Xbox/PS communications being brought into schools - We don't need more platforms allowing students to create issues, especially with Discord are specifically excluding schools from being part of this, but want to piggy back on our existing systems to bring these communities together. If you genuinely believe "They'll believe anyone who says they're at the school as they have no way, until now, of verifying" when they... you know... actually speak to each other in person and on other platforms, then I'm genuinely surprised. We're not letting Discord essentially use our platform as their member verification tool for a system that creates safeguarding and behavioural issues. No way, no how.
  22. Which is strange, because it has done and continues to for us.
  23. I agree. It's shady and stinks of "uh oh, we'd better lock them in else we are in trouble" Alongside that shocking statement regarding the cloud future (or lack of it) and playing on FUD, then its clear that as renewals come, if you're being pushed to 3 year, you should start to look at alternatives.
  24. Well, I'm not sure that's true. I guess they have to notify you within a certain period of time of a change of terms and conditions, upon which you then have the opportunity to bounce out?
  25. Not likely, as far as I'm aware we all basically share a cluster, so reboot for one, reboot for all.
