Just curious as to why you're moving?

Classic move. Price your device so low that everyone else can't compete and falls out the market, then when you're dominant - up your price. Shady.

It absolutely is security by obscurity. "Well if they don't know our IP address we're fine" is not by any stretch of the imagination working from a position zero trust. The assumption being made here is that the risk isn't internal in the first place, but that's one of the biggest risks you'll have, be it from staff or children. Are you differentiating traffic from staff and students to identify with different IP addresses, so if a staff member logs into a machine on the student system, they're still required to use 2FA?

Were we not all saying a few months ago that security by obscurity is not security at all?

So the first thing I'd do is go and see if your school has a Wikipedia entry, and check the anonymous edits to see what IP addresses have been exposed via that. But anyway, you're absolutely disregarding students (and they are capable, I've had one take me on a run around all Summer with similar schemes) They wouldn't have to know who your suppliers are, but they are completely able to be exposed by a Freedom of Information request too. IP addresses for protection are as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

Does it though? That's my point... Spoofing an IP address isn't exactly difficult.

Doesn't matter if they're reliant on other centres too for their international customers - that could've caused a cascade issue as services shifted across locations. It wasn't just the UK having huge heat yesterday.

Personally, I think people have to realise that yesterday was a really exceptional day, and whilst you can and they do operate data centres in the hottest parts of the world, rarely would organisations spec UK and Northern Europe Data Centres to the same levels as they would in Qatar or Jordan. I heard quite a few reports of data centres struggling, and it wouldn't surprise me if this caused cascading failures, leading to the issues seen yesterday. Perhaps the lesson is to distribute your platforms and apps across multiple providers. I'm sure all services that struggled yesterday would have a lot more resilience if they pushed their tools across Azure, AWS, GCP, IBM Cloud rather than just a single provider.

That isn't how it works. They need to learn that they create fresh classes for fresh groups and then reuse posts. Their logic is "we've posted all this into here already" but all you'll end up doing is presenting previous year's work with previous year's dates.

You can do it in GAM, but I wouldn't be doing that. I'd archive the classes and then get them to reuse posts from Archived classrooms.

They need to use the "reuse post" feature as and when they need to share it, rather than trying to clone their content en masse into new classrooms.

They run on Azure, so 2 UK based data centres in London and Cardiff - plus Belgium, North Europe aka Ireland, West Europe aka The Netherlands, Finland, France, 3 German Centres, and Sweden in the EU. Plus Norway as an EEA country. One issue may very well be Azure UK capacity right now, as Cardiff has no capacity at the moment and London has limited capacity too.

You sign up the domains your school/MAT use, so they just use "Sign in with Google" SSO and automatically get the premium account.

It's a replacement to Microsoft Publisher, a video editor, a presentation tool, digital design tool - and it's free for schools.

We did it a few years ago now. I adore Canva. It's so powerful (and clearly Adobe's free efforts for school are a blatant rip off of it!)
