I'm guessing they mean some form of NTLM auth where they don't have to enter a username and password to access HAP+ services.

We use spiceworks too, it's easy to use, the portal is simple enough for staff they can use their network username as it uses ad authentication We don't really use the inventory stuff but it does monitor which can cause it to be a bit slow but otherwise great

NET TIME Should not be used when using windows 7 or 2008 it can be used with XP but using windows time is the more appropriate way. Firstly you need to ensure your PDC is syncing its clock correctly to a Stratum 1 time source You can do this by entering the following in the command prompt: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist: /syncfromflags:manual reliable:YES /update This will set your PDC as a reliable time source for the rest of the domain on your clients (and other DCs servers etc.) you will need to do the following from the command line: w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /update After all of these you may need to restart the w32time service then check the event logs for the windows time entries, it should show that the time is syncing correctly. Interestingly your DCs should be no more than 5 mins apart or Kerberos does not work and you will start having issues with domain authentication. and also note that windows time will not set the exact time, it will only stop the time from drifting too far AFAIK HTH Mark

From what I have read elsewhere @nickbro is moving the system to HTML 5 which may provide better compatibility with mobile devices. Also the 'myfiles' update for v8 (currently in beta in v7.6) contains a layout change. This may do what you need?

Just a thought, it's not anything to do with the application pool not recycling properly, I have seen this once before (many moons ago) where the app pool didn't recycle properly and basically killed off the whole site May be worth a look

Where is it said that a VLE has to do all of that in one package? We certainly do not have that here... we have Moodle for online learning, 2 separate email systems (one for staff one for students), a remote folder access solution and access to some of the schools' admin system. All of these are available via the internet which for us (And our definition) constitutes a VLE Although I do have to agree with the rarely successfully implemented part that I can attest to! Reading Email in can be a pain IIRC, it is a good idea though.

I cant answer the other questions but as for TMG what we have done is disable the built-in authentication that TMG uses, the listener still uses HTTPS as the HAP site has to be secure. As such all comms with AD are encrypted so basically all we use TMG for is to publish the webserver. Hope this helps Mark

I quite regularly post using my iPhone and have no problems at all, even now Using latest iOS (not betas) with the builtin safari browser, granted I'm usually on wifi but never seem to have issues on 3G either

Some form of logging/ debugging would be great I would (like matt) like to see usage logs, I know iis does provide some information but it is jot as granular as I'd like. I'm sure the system would be able to log what users do such as wheat they down/ upload delete etc

I think we just let the wizard do it, and honestly it doesn't seem to make that much difference (although we have only just started to play with DFS)
