We don't give students laptops but our teachers do have them... We dual boot all our laptop installs and leave over a third partition for data storage that can be accessed from both the 'home' and 'school' sides. Granted this does take a little longer to set up but it does mean that although the 'home' side could be (and sometimes is) used on the school network access to resources like the internet etc. is very difficult as the information for proxies etc. is not readily available. The school side acts as a normal 'school' computer that is joined to the domain and gets all the policies etc whereas the 'home' side is much like a standard shop bought install where they can do as they please install their home broadband software printers and so forth. In short the management of the way do it is very simple in terms of domain non domain uses and there is no additional steps that teachers need to think off (just an extra click at boot )

Surely as most homes now have wifi, more then one mobile telephone, cordless telephone based on wireless tech and umpteen other things, it is not just schools they should be looking at!? What will they suggest next we have to turn it all off... like that will happen! I'm sure at some point some muppet who has nothing better to do will claim that breathing is also bad for you!

Honestly, for us, no need, our FBA is taken care of by our ISA 2006 server - it's something our users are familiar with (for OWA and MIS access) so would probably not change it. Just my opinion of course

The same worked for us but.... Doing this will show all shortcuts (both local and redirected) on the start menu and desktop - for the time being this is something we are going to live with but hopefully this will eventually get sorted.

We use VEEAM to backup all of our VMware virtuals (2000 Adv, 2003, 2003 R2, 2008 R2) (~45 in total) these go to three storage servers and then the latest backup goes to a removable 2Tb disk during the day (by means of robocopy) which usually has ~500Gb free when finished. The de-duplication in VEEAM is stunning so space on disk doesn't seem to be an issue (yet!) Depending on size we can recover a normal file/ print server in about 2 hours (from start to back on the network ready to use) a DC, exchange or SQL will take a little longer due to the additional services but is still much quicker than tape! Oh, all the disks on the backup servers are encrypted so they can be stored off site without too much worry of data being stolen Also VEEAM has a nifty file browser built in that will give you explorer access to the disks as they would be on a live server (great for recovering multiple files and folders) it will also run a server in an isolated mode if need be. I have a lot of time for VEEAM, the software is great and it has saved our school hours in backup recovery time. I've done at least 4 corrupt server recoveries due to one thing and another and every time the recovery has gone off without a problem and the servers have been back up and running in less than a working day! Granted it is not cheap, but when you consider the cost + servers and HDD storage, against tapes, tape devices and BE licences it pretty much balances and you get so much extra Obviously this whole post is useless if you are not running VMware

This is a permissions issue, either the user you have logged in with does not have access to the drives you have mapped or there is an issue with the AD bind user and it cannot read the groups that the user is a member of (i think) I would check these first. Also check that you have BASIC authentication enabled not anonymous or integrated - This will also cause an issue Mark

Ok i just checked our config file, you may want to try the below for your UNC path for your homedrive give that a go it will bypass the search for quotas (i think!) Mark

if its a quota entry it cannot find then you may have to watch the videos on YouTube as I am not to up with that part of it yet... you dont have to use the quota info though, if you remove the entries: It may stop this from happening Let me know how you get on Mark

A bind error is an error usually with your AD setup in the web.config file your domain needs to be the FQDN i.e. 'myschool.bham.sch.uk' you will also need to enter the distinguised name of your Domain controller i.e. 'LDAP://myserver.myschool.bham.sch.uk/dc=myschool,dc=bham,dc=sch,dc=uk' and then on top of that you need to ensure that you have the correct username setup in the format domain\username - and that this user has read/write access to your AD environment if you want, post your web.config and I can take a look - NOTE: open it first and do a find and replace on the three entries for your domain user password

If there is a mod or admin around, could I suggest that this thread be moved and its own sub-forum started - possibly in projects or somewhere, I am sure @nickbro will agree it will help with troubleshooting etc if threads were able to be split. hmmm.... I'm stumped, all your settings look right, are you sure you have got the right username and password.

Wierd... Have you got Integrated Authentication or Anonymous turned on? If it is it should be off, only Basic should be ticked...

try changing to Everything else looks fine (I think!) HTH

For the '&' issue try the fix here: Home Access Plus&#43 Not sure about the date modified time, all I can think of is that HAP+ does do a security check (I think) and that may cause the time to change

A bind error is an issue with your username/ password that you are using, or, an issue with your LDAP settings - first off I would check these - if you search through this thread there have been multiple issues to do with this that I and others have given answers to. If needs be pop up a copy of your web.config file (remove the 3 password entries) and I'm sure someone will take a look

Don't thank me for HAP+ I don't make it lol I just try and do my bit to support it so that @nickbro can do the best at getting HAP+ working at it's best As for the booking system, we have a bespoke system in house, so we don't use it and have had no reason to set it up... sorry

Which service nick? Or is it one you have written to accompany hap?

This seems to me like there may be an issue with your web.config file (possibly!) as with the suggestion to rpain earlier, would you be able to do a fresh install on another server to check?

That looks fine! hmmm.... The only thing I can think of is there may be an issue with your IIS settings - possibly some URL rewriting going on or something like that. If possible could you configure HAP+ on another server and see what happens?

@rpain; can you post the unc paths section from your web.config file just so we can check. it is possibly nothing to do with this it may be more to do with iis but just incase... @Hawes29; The problem you have had has been in the thread before but size of this thread makes it difficult to pick the bits apart lol glad you have found your problem
