I was always under the impression that snapshots were not good practise for DB servers (AD, SQL, Exchange etc) due to inconsistencies that can occur if you have to revert. We use Veeam as a backup solution here so when it comes to updates etc for SIMS FMS etc we shut the server down and do a full veeamzip which provides a standalone full backup outside of the usual backup schedule that can be restored if needs be - takes a little bit longer to backup but better safe than sorry

The statement infers that the Education version builds on the Enterprise version - so reading between the lines I suspect that it may just be licensing related or possibly they have some funky undisclosed features for us to get excited about!!

TMG losing trust relationship with domain
sister_annex replied to clareq's topic in Enterprise Software
I'd check that your TMG is syncing it's time correctly - a sporadic clock will cause the server to drop off the domain. Check the event logs for changes to the system clock - usually logged under time-service -

Andy, Thanks for your offer, I will drop you an email at some point - we're busy with other things at the moment so this has been put on the back burner for a day or two but will hopefully get in touch with you later in the week Cheers -

Ok going for a bit of a thread hijack... My wonderful family bought me a weekend pass for Silverstone this year for my birthday. Has anyone done a full weekend before? Accommodation wise I know hotels etc are going to be stupidly expensive so I'm just looking for other ideas on what other options are out there and what others have done before? Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Exchange Hybrid with o365 who's got it working?

So after many days of trying (and failing) to get a proper hybrid solution working with our on site exchange and O365 I'm at the point where I need help or I feel the entire project may grind to a halt. So a bit of back story... In the beginning I updated our aging exchange Infrastructure from 2003 to 2010 - upgrade and migration went smoothly. Now, we have 200 staff who use Exchange our 1500 pupils however, never had access and still dont. More recently we have had a new head who, rightly imo, wants the students to have access to email. In steps O365... Now in terms of setting up O365 I got everything sorted that I can. Based on threads here and advice from other places we decided on a CSO option using dirsync. Our tenant has been successfully set up and verified and all our users will use [email protected] to login - this will also be their email address. At this point all is working as expected and once licensed, users can log in to O365 as normal. In terms of the Exchange Hybrid Setup I have started the configuration with the help of the Exchange Deployment Tool and a few helpful blogs but for some strange reason it fails to complete. For the initial setup I would like to keep all of our staff on our On Premise Exchange with students using Office 365 with all email being routed through our Exchange. I can imagine there is something that I have missed, something isn't configured right etc etc... but for the love of me I cannot fathom why the two services won't communicate properly. Do any of you lovely people out there have any hints, tips, pointers that a slowly balding tech can have before he pulls all his hair out?? Cheers!

We app-v everything we can... even SIMS which when we have nearly 600 clients to update makes life so much easier (update the main package, advertise on server next time program is launched on client voila updated) One thing to check is whether the package you are creating requires drivers as these dont app-v too well otherwise I haven't found anything much that doesn't play well with app-v
-
APP-V is nothing short of brilliant, although, with V5 make sure you read up fully on the powershell stuff as they removed a lot of the client functionality that was in v4.6 as for UE-V IIRC there is a lot of configuration that has to go in to it and from my point of view not really had time to look into to it with everything else that seems to drop on my table... The whole MDOP pack is pretty epic if time is taken to implement it properly - time we don't have at the moment unfortunately
