Also if need remote control only then do have the IRM product and as Jon mentioned in another thread next year also we are offering a standalone ‘classroom management’ system that we will be calling Impero Learning Manager. Any help would be most appreciated Ok here is what I did: Download latest version (2.0.1) and install on the machine you want to control other computers from, choosing the option to install the master machine. Open the management console and click on "Authentication" -> "Launch key file assistant" -> "Next" -> "Create new access key" -> select "Administrator" -> Next -> Enter a path to export the public key -> Next -> Finish. Click "Manage permissions" and add your user account to the permissions list. Close the console. On a machine you wish to control, install the software but untick the "Master" option. Open the management console and click on "Authentication" -> "Launch key file assistant" -> "Next" -> "Import public key" -> select "Administrator" -> Next -> Browse to where you have stored the public key -> Next -> Finish. Click "Manage permissions" and add your user account to the permissions list. Close the console. Now return to the master machine, on the left hand side of the screen click "Classroom manager" and add a classroom, then add the name/IP of the machine you want to control, then click on the machine in the list and it should pop up in the main screen. To roll this out on a bigger scale you can export the settings from the first client you setup and install on other machines with the commandline "setup.xml" Edit: I haven't actually tried installing with the settings file, I assume that you would have to also copy the public key across in the right folder. LAN School is probably the best piece of lab management software I've come across when taking features, manageability, and price into account. It was far cheaper than a lot of other offerings, deploys using an MSI, is configurable through GPO and works consistently.

If I pmed you exploits, could you see if they still work? Since lanschool is cheaper to buy then the impero renewal is, I might be forced to go that way as well and want to know if some of the stuff I found is still valid....

Sure thing, won't be in work until Monday due to having lurgy but yeah I'll test it out.

We've a 2008 citrix server with 4 different classrooms of thin clients and the teacher PC in each room is a fat client - is there a way Lanschool can handle this? Cheers, Jon

I hear everyone saying Impero being the most expensive but no one mentioned how much. I read someone said you'll have to sell your kidney to afford it . Is it that expensive? Also if I read it correctly, Abt tutor offers a one off fee, that would mean Impero education pro and Lan school are subscription based. I am looking for monitoring and class room management software for our school, someone mentioned to look at Lightspeed and others said smooth wall and some said look at Impero; I am getting pulled from all directions. I wish I could see a comparison chart between these products. Regards J.
Tallwood_6 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Last time I had a quote for impero there where a couple of options by an outright licence and pay or annual maintenance and support, this came out £12 per PC and nearly £1800 a year for support so is very expensive. Or pay somewhere around £2800 for a yearly subscription which includes updates and support. The value for money equation really depends on how much of the functionality you are planning on using vs tools you already have.

DCUK6 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Impero is the bet for remote support but lacks chrome support with a proxy server for logging which pretty makes the logging bit useless for internet history. Who doesn't use chrome these days? The next option for me was AB tutor but that has issues as well. To get internet history for one pupil, you have to turn on every machine that he might have been on to download the history from them.
