kennysarmy Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I've commenced our summer re-imaging programme and have hit across a bit of an annoyance. Random computers are saying they have no internet, which means our Office 365 apps won't work as the "shared computer activation" element cannot get internet access. Example below, two identically imaged PC's of the same hardware. We have a smoothwall device set as the proxy. Any ideas why one PC will randomly say it's got no internet?
LeMarchand Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 What version of Windows? Apparently the May update has stopped some machines connecting to the net. Ignore: read title properly! (though may be connected?) 1
kennysarmy Posted July 23, 2020 Author Posted July 23, 2020 What's weird is I can search the Internet fine on the machine that says it has not internet connection!
nwkeene Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 In a cmd window, what does the output of 'netsh winhttp show proxy' give...? we've had issues where the system proxy (the netsh result) was different from what was set in our managemnet console (CC4.5)

kennysarmy Posted July 23, 2020 Author Posted July 23, 2020 Disable ipv6 on the interface - ive had this with a few pcs and that resolves it for me Thought you might have been on to something with that, but restarted four PC's in an office, all freshly imaged with 1903 Edu and 3 came back on with no internet and one was OK. You can tell straight away after a reboot that they've not got internet connection because in the bottom right you get this. - - - Updated - - - In a cmd window, what does the output of 'netsh winhttp show proxy' give...? we've had issues where the system proxy (the netsh result) was different from what was set in our managemnet console (CC4.5) We set this to : http=sslfilter.proxy.swgfl.org.uk We do this so the PC's can talk to our Sophos Console and get updates, bypassing the Smoothwall.

Mark182 Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 We had this a couple of summers ago, here is the thred that fixed it for us it was that and our filtering at the time that was blocking Microsoft traffic. Ours did the yellow tringle of death though but overall same issue as you are reporting. 1

kennysarmy Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 Not getting any further sadly. I've updated the LAN drivers to the latest. I've updated all other drivers to the latest. I've tried the settings from the thread mentioned. ) Set the following key in the registry (as the OP did): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet > EnableActiveProbing set to: 0 Note: It is unclear to me if this key is specifically for Vista, or if it also applies to Win7 - but I set it in any event. 2) Edited GPO (gpedit.msc for a local machine or gpmc.msc if AD domain wide): Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Turn off Windows Network Connectivity Status Indicator active tests set to: ENABLE 3) Edited a second GPO: Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Network Connections > Do Not show the “local access only” network icon” set to: ENABLE I've tried disabling all the WAN MiniPort Drivers. IP6 is still disabled on the network adapter. To summarize I've got four identical PC's all freshly imaged all adjacent to each other. On reboot any one or all show the globe icon at the logon screen indicating LAN connectivity but no Internet access. Sometimes this will after a period of time change to the normal network icon. Sometimes you can logon and it will change once you're logged on and sometimes it will just stay with the globe icon so Office cannot activate - but access to the internet is fine with the browsers working through the smoothwall as the proxy. The winhttp proxy on the PC's are all set to bypass the smoothwall and go directly out via SWGfL
newpersn Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 SWGfL SSL cert? Try setting the system proxy is staffproxy or proxy to see if anything changes?
kennysarmy Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 SWGfL SSL cert? Try setting the system proxy is staffproxy or proxy to see if anything changes? The system proxy as in the smoothwall address?
kennysarmy Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 This is the exact same issue we're getting! https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2130619-no-internet-access-but-there-is
Michael Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 There was an issue a few months ago. The easiest/quickest fix was to remove the explicit proxy so you connect in transparent mode.

Hi, Is that the system proxy winhttp or the browser? I set winhttp during the imaging process and I set the browser proxy for the user using a GPO (using a registry value) - HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Internet Settings
Michael Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Remove the proxy entry from IE Options as a test, then immediately launch a browser.
kennysarmy Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 Remove the proxy entry from IE Options as a test, then immediately launch a browser. I can try but without a proxy entry of either the smoothwall or the swgfl proxy I won't have any internet access through the browser. Also, the issue is affecting the PC's before anyone is even logged on. This is very frustrating. I'm going to re-image a PC on Monday and see if we can recreate the behaviour before we do any of our post image tasks or install any software or move the PC to the correct OU.
ticktock Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Bit of a long shot but are they all connected to the same switch. I get it now and again and re-booting the switch sorts it.

kennysarmy Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 On ONE affected PC. I decided to remove SOPHOS & take the PC off the domain I then set the proxy in IE so I had internet access to get out to the Teamviewer site - I downloaded and installed Teamviewer then connected to the PC from another one and took the screenshot below showing the PC is STILL reporting it has no internet connection (and thus Office 365 apps cannot be run!) WTF Microsoft! Next thing, which may have to wait until Monday is to disable the onboard card and install a Wireless card, hotspot off my phone to rule out any issues with the network!
Steve21 Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 (edited) http=sslfilter.proxy.swgfl.org.uk Are you sure you're setting this in the right bit here? The command should return a proxy address and port number (assuming you're on the normal sslfilter.proxy.swgfl.org.uk:8080), there shouldn't be any http returned in this, and deffo not without a port unless that's you paraphrasing it Can you do a screenshot what's showing when you run netsh winhttp show proxy Or if you prefer doing it reg wise, what is this key set as (FYI shows as hex): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections\WinHttpSettings Steve Edited July 24, 2020 by Steve21
dubsdj Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Ah yes, I saw that issue too.. was a bit baffling. Are you able to rule out the smoothwall by bypassing it?

The results are as expected.
