Hi, does anyone know of a good company or service that does drive destruction at a reasonable price? And just curious how other IT ppl at schools approach this, do you do it annually or just when you have a lot of drives to dispose of? in the UK... thanks

I doubt it. I'm just going to TCIP the printers on a computer policy for now and walk away. It's taken too much time and effort that I can't be bothered with it anymore.

When adding the TCIP printer, I have to specify the location of the printer which is \\myprintserver\printername

Is this a group policy preference setting? If it is, then you need to change to update instead of create.

File server resource manager should help with this. I don't know of a setting in office365 where you can specify file extensions in emails.. I looked into this before.. I wish there was one so if anyone knows of one please let me know.

I feel your pain.. Wifi and group policies are just a complete pain.. I did away with group policies for wifi devices , took them off the domain and just made an image for wifi devices that applied all the settings that I wanted to apply. They run great now instead of running like dog poo.

Normally I wouldn't use the domain admin account to log into any computers but only servers. Try looking at event viewer and the application log, you'll probably see loads of warnings about profiles etc.

I've been looking at this on a test workstation this evening. I seem to have been able to make it work without changing any registry keys. In group policy > computer configuration I have added a tcp-ip printer to the OU that contains the non admin workstations. I logged in as a test pupil and the printers are added without any pop up prompts to install drivers etc. So, I can create OU's with the classroom PC's and assign those printers using the GPO preferences, and it avoids the admin pop ups because it is under computer config GPO. It appears that I can also delete the network printers via the GPO preferences, so that also deals with that problem of roaming users stacking up printers. I'm going to test a bit more as I might be getting ahead of myself or misinterpreting what I am seeing. However, I have made sure latest updates were on the test pc.

If you specify the print server in point and print settings (to reduce the risk), can you still have 'do not elevate' so they don't get a pop up?

Thank goodness that I have removed most printers. However, reading the article it says install the drivers on the workstations? Because the users roam, the network printers are removed from their profiles on log off to prevent them having printers all over the building appearing.. How would I install the driver on the workstation so it stays without it being removed when the users log off? Do I log in as a local admin and install the printer manually so that the driver is installed? Office users, I could probably stop the delete network printers on log off because they stay at their desk.. It's the roamers that I am most concerned about. It's been so long since I've dealt with printer scripts that I have forgotten

Any ideas? The manual doesn't specify.. I'm guessing they are m4 but what depth?

Does anyone know the workaround for shared links with onedrive on mobile phones? I share a link on a company onedrive account for anyone to view on the web, however when using a mobile phone it is asking for onedrive sign in account... I've checked sharepoint admin center and sharing is set up correctly and if I use an ordinary web browser I can see the files as an anonymous user. I'm assuming its because the user has the onedrive app on their phone which is forcing them to sign in. If I hold my finger on the link and select incognito mode, then I can view the files without signing in. kind of stupid if this is normal...

A Client of mine is purchasing a ton of new surface laptops. What is the best way of seamlessly allowing teachers to project their screens to the whiteboard without disrupting the teachers computer that is always hooked up to it? Trying to avoid unplugging wires etc.. Is there a gadget I need?

I don't rate their support, recently I rang them regarding an issue with Teams in the admin portal and they asked me if I had tried rebooting and reinstalling windows? I thought, what is this?? XBOX support?!

Normally when this happens to me I rename the download folder in software distribution to download.old and then manually download the latest cumulative update from the catalogue and install it manually. If you are having issues renaming the download folder and unable to stop the windows update service then temporarily set the windows update service to disabled and reboot the server. Once the server has rebooted, try renaming the download folder in the software distro folder and then enable the windows update service and set it to automatic and start it. Once that is all done, run the cumulative update manually. It will take ages BTW. If you try to stop the windows update service and it hangs and attempt a reboot you will be stuck on a screen "getting windows ready" for over 20 minutes.

You don't have any sort of service running that is using your credentials do you? Perhaps the password is wrong on the service and it locks you out after failed log in attempts.

Check you are not using the N version of windows 10 (most likely you are not but) . If you are then make sure you have the media pack installed. Also do the apps work in a local user scenario? Sounds like an appdata issue, do you redirect appdata? I gave up with windows 10 and apps on the network a long time ago, just a big hassle. I hope you manage to find a solution.

Yeah I totally agree but these are temporary solutions until people make their minds up for class room layouts. I've never been to a client yet who doesn't have small switches and even hubs dotted about the place. I guess you're an exception
