X-13 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I'm trying to setup a computer to be used with a projector, and only a projector [no monitor] but I can't get ANY sort of image to show. It works perfectly fine with a monitor and we have others that do it without any problems. I'm getting NO error messages on either the computer OR the projector. Apart from "No signal". It's a desktop and I've tried the registry hack, but it's had no effect at all. I can't even open the mobility centre, as it's still registering the computer as a desktop. When I use a VGA splitter box, it's a bit better. It shows a black screen on both the projector and the monitor, but at least it's getting a signal. The splitter isn't an option in the class, as there is a distinct lack of power outlets. Any advice on what is going on would be much appreciated.

The class one works with my laptop, the one I'm using to test it with works fine with other computers. The issue seems to be that windows dosn't detect a monitor, so it doesn't bother to send the signal.

caffrey Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Tried removing then replacing the cable while windows is up ? Have as issue with a splitter where the image is off to one side - if I pull/replace the cable it resets itself. Not ideal. We had a projector do this also, the input board was broken (just happened to be the 4m up in the air hall projector)

I had a machine where if you plugged in a monitor it was fine, as soon as you plugged in the splitter box the picture had coloured lines through it, computer would lock up and all manner of weird things

It's a desktop I'm trying it on. The "projector only" setting, along with the UI you use to set it, is locked out on desktops. Can you use remote access to connect to the machine when the projector is connected and change resolutions? Nope. I can get to the resolution settings, but can't change them remotely. Does it display POST? There is a BIOS setting on newer intel boards for a default display connector too. I've had a look and there's nothing. They're not new machines... Le EDIT: Holy carp! caffrey Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 I had a weird one with cat5 hdmi baluns, if the hdmi lead was plugged in the PC wouldn't boot - the hdmi balun was causing the motherboard status light to come on too even if the PC power was off, still haven't fixed that (h51 chipset) AMD zacate board works fine...

X-13 Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Just an update for everyone/anyone who's interested. I've been faffing around with this computer, and have managed to get it working on my test projector by using Win+P. I'm not going to bother with trying to get it to auto-project as it's in a Nursery class and I doubt the teachers will be happy with the pupils turning it on to play with it all the time. [Win+P is the new "CTRL+ALT+DEL to login"]
X-13 Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 So, I've just had to go in there again... The computer is now refusing to boot properly when connected to the projector. It works perfectly fine with a monitor and with the VGA cable pulled. At the moment they're having to boot the computer with the cable pulled out and then attach it after it beeps a couple of times... Does anyone have any ideas why this isn't working properly?
