Excel finally allows the opening of two completely separate windows instances again so you can have one on one screen and another on a different screen. Yay, they broke that back in 2007 and it has only taken them three versions to make it right again.

It can be done in the preceding versions on W7, but only if you right click on the active excel icon in the taskbar and select Excel, it will spawn a completely seperate instance rather than a new 'tab' inside the already running instance, then you can move one to one screen and one to another.

You could do this in 2010 without problems, I have been doing it all along, you just launch it from the start menu again and it works fine two windows two screens and in my case two massive spreadsheets to be ultra geeky I stretch them both across two screens and tile them job done

It's been in LibreOffice for some time now.

 

What I'd like to know more about wrt office (we only have a nominal number of Office installs) is its reported ability to save in ODF 1.2 and OOXML strict.

Is OOXML strict the default? can you make strict the default ? what about old documents, does it save them in OOXML strict?

Have you you seen the new Excel Survey Dedicated WebApp? :-) that allows you to create a survey of some form and it populates the data live, allowing you to have real time states etc. real simple!

 

also, have you seen the apps that are now embedded across the Office 2013 range.. like if you have an address in an email it automatically shows you in Bing, and appointments it picks it out of the email and tells you when your available etc.

 

They also have the new powerpoint presentation mode! ;-)

There is a link down the bottom that says, legacy licencing site or something like that, that is the one you want. I had the same issue.

 

I've already got a select few of the staff from each school using 2013 with good results so far and a view to roll it out January 2013 if only for the great 365 support.

There's not too much to get used to if you're already using 2010, just the colour scheme looks a bit odd but I'm getting used to the Windows 3.0 look

Yup you could, it also worked as I put earlier on by just launching it again from the start menu

I always used to just launch a second instance from the run prompt i.e. WinKey+R > excel. Bit of a PITA juggling which window is the active one when you go to open a spreadsheet, still.

 

I still hate the ALL CAPS RIBBON they've gone with in 2013. I reckon takeup will be quicker than any previous Office though, with the bundled version in RT and Skydrive already being updated to it.

Derp! awesome tip! I just never tried it, I do middle click all the time in browsers but didnt realise the rest of windows does that too. rep++
