_Bat_ Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 http://www.sysadminday.com Should we promote it? Friday, July 27th, 2007, is the 8th annual System Administrator Appreciation Day. On this special international day, give your System Administrator something that shows that you truly appreciate their hard work and dedication. Let's face it, System Administrators get no respect 364 days a year. This is the day that all fellow System Administrators across the globe, will be showered with expensive sports cars and large piles of cash in appreciation of their diligent work. But seriously, we are asking for a nice token gift and some public acknowledgement. It's the least you could do. Consider all the daunting tasks and long hours (weekends too.) Let's be honest, sometimes we don't know our System Administrators as well as they know us. Remember this is one day to recognize your System Administrator for their workplace contributions and to promote professional excellence. Thank them for all the things they do for you and your business.
webman Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 I think it'd have greater effect if it wasn't during the summer hols but there isn't any harm in it
_Bat_ Posted June 17, 2007 Author Posted June 17, 2007 I think it'd have greater effect if it wasn't during the summer hols but there isn't any harm in it But of course, we work hardest during the summer holidays, so even more reason to be rewarded... the fact that no-one is there to see the hard work is of little importance
webman Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Hehe. Maybe make a DVD video of all the work done to hand out to staff when they return And call it "I know what you didn't do this summer" 8)
john Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Must add that into Outlook.... I will catagorise the day as Holiday
alan-d Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Sysadmins - the only group that can close the world for a day or longer - Muahahahaha
localzuk Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 My boss has added it to her calendar Roll on the cars, cakes, booze and other such gifts!
elsiegee40 Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Nice idea... shame it's in the holidays. I shall be on my way to Italy that day!
davyboi Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 the sites blocked by kirklees council filter! for the rule jokes! set of boring c**ts
kearton Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 One of our ICT teachers bought us a box of choccy biscuits in today for Sysadmin day. I thanked her but pointed out that she's a month early... Maybe we'll get another one next month?
john Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Or maybe its because she knows that you will be on holiday then
Joedetic Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Celebrate it with your fellow techies. Go down the pub for lunch and a couple of pints. A nice relaxed afternoon should follow re-imaging laptops and the like with a decent DVD on the projector and the school PA system hooked up for decent sound
starscream Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 What a stupid time of year. Yet again all use education sys admins left out! Although most of you work the summer don't you? :-P Still... means there are no staff around to appreciate you!

MrLudwig Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 In the run up to the last 3 SysAdmin Days I've emailed the staff here to remind them, and to point them to the 'Gift Ideas' section on http://www.sysadminday.com I'm still waiting... But one day I'm sure they'll surprise me with the 42" Plasma TV I've been hinting at One day.
localzuk Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 I'm still waiting... But one day I'm sure they'll surprise me with the 42" Plasma TV I've been hinting at One day. Ooh look!!! Pigs have learnt to fly!!!
User3204 Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 I suppose it would be more useful if I'd known _beforehand_, then I could have made some unsubtle hints.

localzuk Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 My boss put this in her calendar and still forgot to say something... Sigh...
