Aldi are to do cycling equipment once more on the 26th September. They only have this page up currently: https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/coming-soon/cycling/

And it looks like they will be doing their very nice bike toolkits once more. I can recommend these quite highly and have used mine extensively since I got it last year. Not sure about the cycling shoes though with winter fast approaching and I'm looking at buying some army surplus Gore-Tex combat books for my winter cycling commute as cold wet feet just aren't my thing!

Aldi Cycle shoes are poor, one of mine is splitting after less than 6 months.

 

Dos_Box, try Gortex OverShoes, they should keep your feet dry and snug in the winter, they go mine over normal trainers and cycling socks.

The problem I have with them is that water will still get in over the tops. Boots are much better for me.

Even the ones that go pst you ankle with velcro fastners etc.. Never had a problem with mine.

Half anecdote, half confession.

 

My feet got soaked last Friday, I was caught without overshoes on my way home. Even though the shoes are heavy Goretex walking shoes, nothing bar wellies would have kept out that amount of water.

 

The upshot was my shoes were still soaking on Monday - so I rode in in crocs. Yes, those funny plastic shoes (black, discrete and hidden under overshoes)

 

Well, I kept wearing them and I've done 45 miles in them this week and I love 'em!

 

They don't absorb any water, wipe them with a rag when they get wet and you're good to go. Worst case is that your socks get wet, wipe the crocs, put on dry socks and you're off again. No more cold wet shoes.

 

Time will tell, but I'm going to see how I get on with these rather than fabric shoes. So far, it's all pluses - very light, very tough, don't absorb water, and if you keep spinning, no-one will see your feet.

 

The cool kids have disowned me, of course.

I'll be investing in some of their winter gloves. My old pair have just about had it and have done sterling service for over 4 winters now

The under helmet cap also looks to be a good idea, but may just be too sweaty!

I had a cycling cap but as you've mentioned I find it gets way too hot. Instead I'd recommend some buffs like the one below :-

 

Revolution Buff

 

You can wear it balaclava style when starting out and it's cold then pull it down cover the face or simply as a neckerchief as you warm up from riding.

I second that re Buffs. You can get lightweight ones or fllece ones and once you warm up you can easily adjust them.

Been riding in crocs for ages now , they grip the pedals great and as you say water just runs off. i have broke a few of the croc clips for the strap but you dont need that strap.

 

I must say thou that socks and crocs are a no no . Its like crossing the beams or something.

SPD-SL (540's too costly for me this time round) for me and 078's

 

If they get soaked I put them in a cardboard box with the fan heater blowing into them.

Managed 1067 miles since 5th of June. 730 on my new bike and the rest on an old bone shaker. Fitness has improved dramaticaly.

I've been cycling to work as often as I can over the past few months. It's about 1.5 miles cross country (10 minutes) compared to 3.5 miles on the road in a car (anything between 20 and 30 minutes in morning traffic).

Just to remind you that Aldi have the kit in today. I stopped off at ten past eight on the way into work a the Aldi in Deepdale, Preston, and there was already a big huddle around the cycling gear. Got myself a pair of their nice winter gloves and they are a definitely an improvement over the ones they have been selling over the past few years (I've had my old ones for over 5 years and they have been unchanged in all that time!), but they have yet to have the 'real world' day top day tests yet

If you do buy something please let us all know what you got and how it holds up
