If you are getting slow speeds start with fitting a high quality face plate filter like adslnations and place router at master. My parents get a stable 10mb in this setup.

I got one of the OpenReach versions of the BT iPlate a couple of years ago when an Engineer had to come out and reterminate the pole. The retermination and Plate helped up my connection by about 1Mb.

With an iPlate, decent microfilters, rewiring/re-termination of internal extensions and careful setup of my ADSL modem I managed to up my (shocking) less than 1mb connection to 2.3mb stable.

If green box equipment is blowing due to heat then something is very wrong with the equipment or the cabinet ventilation.

I was told not so long ago that BT are starting to put fan's into the top of the green boxes to stop this heat problem...

All the active cabinets should already be fan cooled.

My bigest speed enhancement was moving from an Ancient DABS Value Connexiant router to a Cisco 877W which is very good but not cheap.

Virgin Media - although doesn't really mean much as youtube is forever buffering and we don't have love film or netflix streaming anymore and don't download much other than streaming stuff from youtube.

Got to add mine here just because it is so bad.

Text only took too long trying to open speedtest.

33.2 k over a 52k modem.

No adsl, due to BT linking us to the exchange 7km away instead of the one 2km, tried getting them to do something about it but they wont even though they have fiber laid under one of our fields going to there building on the over side of our wall. I hate BT, everyone else I know around this are has approx 16mg.

No 3g coverage in the house either.

Bt are a bunch of useless b`tards they only want to do any work at all if theres competition or government bribes. Where i live its like a ring doughnut all around theres fibre (or will be) but estate i live on is being left out. Not as bad as the above we get bb 800k here but atm it dies every night and resets to 400k or less as we are 9km cable from the exchange. Phone lines poor too noisy requires you to repeat yourself all the time but apparently its fine and within normal parameters. Tech support just blame long cable but someone in openreach/bt decided it was acceptable and they flat out lie predicted speed is 3.5mb

My mate in Ireland gets this and its on a home connection, the company also does 150Meg packages but he cant justify it. I'm getting around 7meg average.
