Well it's official, I had the lowest level technical request ever today, troubleshooting fire :)

I had to get the old boiler going and then reactivate it's timers to get it all automated.

What is your lowest tech fix it job?

Posted

Having the British Gas engineer out once and being shown how to re pressurise the boiler by using a screw driver to unscrew a flat head screw vertically and then screwing it back in horizontally when the pressure reaches 1.0 bar.

So similar to yourself, except the timers on our boiler are physical switches

Unjamming a stapler... Well it was the main one from the office and therefore critical to the operation of the school.

They never did work out who jammed it and didn't say!

The lowest-tech fix I've ever performed is to move a book an inch to the left. Got a call complaining about menus and dialogue boxes closing almost as soon as clicked on, and when I arrived the teacher had their desk piled with papers and other clutter, with a book resting on the escape key. I only fell for that one once - I've "fixed" the same problem on the phone a dozen or more times since.

I got in a laptop trolley with a paper clip and pair of scissors. It hadn't been used for years and inside were 2 sony vaios from 1942.

At least that is still something electrical, it is possible to get more low tech!

Moving a chair 1 inch.

Teacher was complaining that her Smartboard was acting weird and the cursor was all over the place.

Her chair was resting against the bottom corner so I moved it an inch and it magically fixed it :p

Not a fix but I was once told by an ex ICT Co-Ordinator that part of my job was to count all the pens and pencils in the dept.

Buh?!

I can't even begin to see the logic there?

I hope you corrected them!

No, I higlighted the fact that this is something I didn't consider part of my job and didn't do it.

Absolutely. IT Support is not a sub-set of the ICT Department, and IT techs should not be considered in the same way as Science lab techs. This is why, where possible, IT Support should answer to the Bursar/Business Mgr/etc. not the ICT teacher.

Sounds like an interesting weekend activity. Did you find TechNarnia?

I have to say, though, the moving of the book and the object touching the corner of the whiteboard are two I've had, and rate the highest.

Held a door closed during a howling gale. Due to fire regs it couldn't be locked or wedged ... so a human door stop was required ... and before anyone says it, this was before I had piled on a few pounds!

It was too dark to tell. I've only just got out.
