Hey

NOTE: Literally just found this link and have not tried to register yet (tomorrow) but it looks legit.

Ashampoo software is offering free site licenses for any school in the world. All you need to do is fill in a form and they will send you a license to use the software throughout.

Features of Ashampoo Burning Studio 6.5:

* Burn files and folders on data CDs/DVDs/Blu-ray discs

* Burn Audio CDs from WAV, MP3, FLAC, WMA and Ogg Vorbis files

* Burn MP3-CDs from your MP3 files

* Burn Video DVD, Video CD (VCD) or Super Video CD (S-VCD)

* Create and burn CD/DVD/Blu-ray disc images

* Burn speed and other options can all be set automatically

* Make copies from audio, video or data discs easily

* Interactive troubleshooting assistant for solving hardware and media problems

* Save project files so that you can burn the same discs again later

* Erase CD-RWs / DVD+RWs / DVD-RWs/ DVD-RAM/ BD-REs

* Integrated support for over 1,700 CD, DVD and Blu-ray burners

* ... and much more!

I have not tried the software yet nor tried packaging it but the screenie link below looks simple enough.

Just downloaded and installed, all seems well. Just waiting for them to e-mail me the key now.

Thanks for finding this, certainly cheaper than buying cd burning software.

Just downloaded and registered too - works fine. Registration is a 3 step process but not an inconvenience - after that you get the license key for your whole establishment.

Nice find ZH! ;)

Nice find ZH! ;)

Cheers, its amazing what you find in the dead of the night bored on the net.

Got our key also. Looks like old nero express a little which is nice. It should be simpler to use then deepburner (not that it was hard either).

Going to look into a MSI package for it. Will let you know what I find.

NOTE: The version you download is 6.2 which is used to create your educational key. 6.5 is the latest version though and you can use its installer I think with the generated serial for education if you need the changes.

6.5 adds:

Vista support

18x/20x speed drive support (DVD)

Awaiting key now.... ah that's nice of them, 'Dear teachers of Bishop Barrington School' :x

Awaiting second step of ragistration. Thanks for the heads up on this. Will save me many "I'm sorry I can't just give you a disc for that the school only owns a certian number of licenses" calls :)

Looks handy.

What do you think of their other software products?

Ashampoo® WinOptimizer

Ashampoo's WinOptimizer series delivers professional-class Windows maintenance that anyone can use. It keeps your computer free of many kinds of garbage that can slow it down and makes it less responsive.

Claims to clean up the windows instillation, switch off unused services and do other stuff like defrag. Hmm.... I think Norton did something similar a few years back and, being Norton, it was so big and heavy it slowed the computer down.

Ok i dont know quite what to think have see a few site advisers that teel me that the software installs some bad drivers http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/ashampoo.com?ref=safe&aff_id=0 i know this is a mcafee one but there are others just wondered if andone has starter getting popups or other anoying stuff. I know i am being cautious but mum old mum used to tell me nothing in this world is free and to this day i found this to be true. within reason.

Any more thoughts or experiences with this? I've just got my license key sorted and was wondering whether there's any sort of packaged or silent install option available?

Is the software any good?

I have found that it can be easily repackaged with Wininstall LE. I looked for silent install options and did not find anything.

I was able to deploy the Wininstall created MSI through Group Policy.

Blue screens my PC whenever I start the program :(

Contacted their Tech Support - they sent some files over, still bluescreens. Mailed them back - no response since. Free is not always good!
