Software to create screensavers

After reading another topic on here about setting screen savers through GPO it has given me ideas.

 

DOes anyone use or know of any Screen Saver Software that is FREE that i can use to create simple screen savers?

I think you can use Flash to compile screensavers, can't you? If you already have a license for Flash then that's effectively free.

well I was using Xara Screensaver Maker and also 2D 3D Screensaver Maker but they are not free options, I will try Galway's choice.

You can make anything a screen saver like an exe or something. You just have to rename the extension to .scr I think. Something along those lines anyway.

Ive been tasked with "making the schhol logo bounce around the screen" in a screensaver for free and would like to know an easy way of doing it

You can load your own textures into the preset screensavers.

 

Choose Display properties > Screen saver > 3D Flying objects > Settings > Style > textured flag > Texture. Then load the image of your school logo as a bitmap.

 

Not sure how you roll this out to all of the other pc's though.

Indeed. One can have lots of fun with this (e.g. change logon screensaver to cmd.exe) but that's probably not what you're after, ahem

Don't forget if you change the logon.scr file it will be replaced by windows automatically as its a protected system file. If you want to change the logon screensaver from the XP logon that bounces with something else, just edit the registry to point to a new file which is what I do and it works fine.

 

I have a GPO which copy's a wallpaper and screensaver file to the workstation and amends the registry for both and its a startup script so I can change them and it just re-copys them and looks rather nice and corporate and works well

The GPO is a startup script that I have written that is just two xcopys one to copy the wallpaper and the other the screen saver from a shared folder on the network to the local machines C drives, and then it merged the following registry set into it.

 

(rename to .reg the attachment and that will work - look inside the file and I have commented a few bits IN BLOCK CAPITALS to help you out )
