ihaveaproblem Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 A few days back I just got my first fancy phone - Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Been looking at apps and stuff. What apps do you use lots?
CyberNerd Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 spirit - a friend of mine wrote it. And it's 10p on android today https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jakyl.spirithd&feature=apps_timed_promotion#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLG51bGwsImNvbS5qYWt5bC5zcGlyaXRoZCJd
SimpleSi Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 The apps on my frontpage that I use the most are Gmail, tweetdeck, touch calendar, spotify, a torch app , camera, k-9 mail (to separate work mail from private) and the allshare DLNA client to stream videos from main computer to phone as my nighttime tv 2nd page has wi-fi analyser, mememto for recording things like projector serial numbers before I mount them, swiftp (ftp server so can access phone files over wi-fi) rockplayer for videos, google sky maps, gps status, iplayer and angry birds Notable others - Shazam, juice defender (gives an extra hour or two battery life in a day), easy installer (to just manually load in .apk files from sdcard And I like Tasker as I can get it to auto unlock the phone and run my own speedlimit app when I plug it into the car power Si
ihaveaproblem Posted December 10, 2011 Author Posted December 10, 2011 Might buy spirit^^ I downloaded shazam. That will be handy because often I hear a song and think "what's this called" Still looking for a nice simple notes app. Just want basic note and voice note. Most seem to be packed with features I don't need. Is there a good app for connecting to shares on servers and printers?
SimpleSi Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 I use Evernote if I need more than a picture. Si
featured_spectre Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Tapatalk - got about 30 forums on there at the touch of a button! Makes life much easier! 1
ihaveaproblem Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 i got colour note. Didnt like evernote much as it required an account. Do any of you use something like the activedir app to reset passwords and stuff when your outside the office and been chased down.
ihaveaproblem Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 snake . Just downloaded ^^ Anyone know a name of an app that does barcode scanning, QR codes and all that + an option to scan barcodes and save in a spreadsheet/text file?
SimpleSi Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Memento is a database app that uses barcodes (subuses the ubiquitos Zxing Barcode Scanner app) that can export to csv. If your thinking of trying to use it for equipment inventory, the resolution of your camera will limit reading physically small barcodes Si
sidewinder Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Apps I find really useful: Tweetdeck (seems so much better than the official Twitter app) Taptu (great for news) Spotify Remote Desktop (it works so well, although using a mouse on a touchscreen isnt ideal) FXCamera (for Hipstermatic type photo effects...shame Android phone cameras are usually so bad though) Adao task Manager (quick way to kill apps and save battery) Dropbox
CAM Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 HTC Desire here and I use: Tweetdeck as the default Peep app is dire Google+ official app Blizzard Authenticator for WoW Foursquare official app SQL Note for messing with SQL statements QR Droid Private for those square barcodes (QR Codes I think they are called?) I'm still waiting for TerrariaHB to update so I can use it with the new Terraria patch and ahem...yeah, I have Fing. Thanks to Smoothwall at the conference for that download.
alexsanger Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 HTC Desire S here - using the HTC Calendar (Agenda) and the Mail app for anything other than Gmail, and also: Google Docs Skydrive Browser Whats App the trainline ebay Amazon (shopping, not mp3) Amazon Kindle NatWest utorrent BBC News Engadget The Independant Night Clock TuneIn Radio Task Manager JuiceDefender ...to name but a few
JJonas Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 HTC Desire owner here first two apps that go on my phone 3g watchdog (but I believe Android 4 has data plan monitoring built in) JuiceDefender
Arcath Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Wifi Analyzer is a great app to have. Pulse is pretty good for putting feeds together and letting you read the article in app. +1 for the kindle app, I wouldn't reccomend trying to read whole books on it but its great for reading when your kindle or tablet are not with you. I use evernote on my tablet for note taking etc... not really tried it on my phone. Power Control Plus lets you add custom button bars to your home screen, I have one bar for connectivity which has: Wifi On/Off, Bluetooth On/Off, BT Discoverable, GPS ON/Off, Sync On/Off
Arcath Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Does anyone use a AV? If so which one? I have AVG on my tablet, although all it seems to do is moan at me for having the developer options enabled.
HarryMonkey Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 In no particular order ... NavFree satnav LLoydsTSB banking Facebook 08 wizard and 0800 wizard Lottery Dropbox Units Converter Ant Smasher Sky Go iTorch4
Oaktech Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I'm motorola defy here, fave apps in no particular order: wifi analyser, facebook, gtech net tools, ulysses gizmos, maverick, smoda data toggle, pro capture free, quick hotmail, electrodroid, tikl ptt, tesla led, sound meter, solitaire, vouchercloud.
alexsanger Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Does anyone use a AV? If so which one? +1 for AVG. Tried it this time after a factory reset. Had Creative Apps Antivirus Free before. Both do the same thing - check anything that gets installed. Both seem fairly unobtrusive. Would recommend either.
enjay Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 HTC Sensation here. Commonly used apps (other than the obvious Facebook, GMail, etc) are: ChromeMarks (sync bookmarks with Chrome desktop browser) Chrome to Phone (send text from Chrome desktop browser to phone's clipboard) Barcode Scanner (doesn't do QR though) DropBox Drop7 (number puzzle game) eBay Find My Car (allows you to flag any location, and then use Maps to get back to that place) Fruit Ninja Google Sky Map IMDB (movie database) Juice Defender - power saving thing, really effective but does need a bit of configuring to maximise use (set up locations on WiFi, customise apps list). Note that you need to turn on the "disable via sms" function, otherwise you won't be able to use tracking/wiping tools if you lose your phone. Kindle Lookout - AV product, free does malicious code checking, paid for one blocks phishing sites and such like too MetOffice Weather Movielicious - catalogue movies and DVDs by scanning barcode Navigation - reasonable satnav app, but struggles like most with knowing exactly where you are, so can give very late instructions, useful if I get caught short without my TomTom though Sky+ SoundHorn - "listens" to 10 seconds of music playing on radio, etc and tells you what the track is Spotify, assuming you have a premium account SpringPad - note-taking, also has web interface so can add items from phone and then see them on PC, this is my "to do list" in work Red Laser - barcode and QR scanner
Disaster Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Crumbs... MySpace? 1st app I get when I grow up and get a proper phone is bet365. That's a real man's app, grrrrrrrrr
tom_newton Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Overlook Fing. Sounds odd, but you will ALL like it. Also ALF for lovefilm and squeezecommander for my slim devices/logitech squeezeboxes (their app is rubbish by comparison).
mac_shinobi Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 10 iPhone Apps You Can’t Live Without>>> 1. Facebook 2. EBay 3. Sky + 4. Skype 5. Remote 6. eBuddy 7. Twitterific 8. IMDB. 9. PayPal. 10. MySpace I'm not a myspace or twitter user so I can live without those, and I don't have sky so I can live without that but although it is an intergrated app(s) I would have to say the ipod app which has now become audio and video ( 2 seperate apps ) I use my iPhone as a jukebox in the car so I don't have to have a multitude of discs everywhere
