Bit late to the party, but still... My trusty, long serving work rig consists of: Core2Quad Q6600 (from ancient home games rig), Motherboard from old Viglen classroom desktop, aftermarket cooler cos the viglen cooler couldn't cope, 8Gb of DDR2 800mhz (SLI certified!!) RAM, also from the old games rig, an old geforce 8800GT (yup, from old games rig too) for dual displays, a couple of old HDDs and a 120Gb Samsung 840 Pro salvaged from a broken laptop a parent was throwing out! All shoved into an old Novatech ATX case, with the side panel removed for cooling and ease of SATA hot swap. The old Frankenstation still runs W10 admirably, but has started displaying some peculiar idiosyncrasies of late, and shown it's age when it's come to some heavy number crunching or graphics work. A shiny new system would surely improve my productivity no end!

They had a huge stand last year, with knowledgeable staff and plenty of demo systems of SIMS Secondary to play with. It even started to make me see them in a slightly more positive light. While they may not drum up much new business, if they're not there this time I think it'll be a PR exercise missed, even if they are having to make excuses for delays to product development. Other providers could easily steal the march, especially with some many MATs forming and expanding.

FWIW One school I support forwarded your mail to me as they thought it was a scam. It does look highly suspect on first sight. I would suggest a little more background information to the request might make people a little more inclined to assist you in your project. This is, afterall, a project you are undertaking for your own purposes. I know the legislation says you don't HAVE to provide a reason for your request, but that's not to say that you shouldn't. With the data that's been requested and the manner in which it has been requested, I believe the school are intending to decline on the basis of the request being vexatious, or possibly too time consuming. I, btw, provided no guidance other than to confirm that, despite appearances, it was a genuine request.

...and that's a no. "Afraid we have no contacts within Google/YouTube to raise this with". I'll see if I can get it escalated by someone in G Suite support unless anyone else has any bright ideas.

I ended up on chat with G Suite support with no real outcome. Have asked if LGfL can escalate to anyone at Google for us. I'll see what they come back with.

Just testing this and found if you go to a video that doesn't play, highlight the URL in the address bar and hit return it reloads successfully.

For what its worth, I have found R-Studio works well at recovering otherwise unreadable flash drives, but yes, the PC has to recognise a device first. Perhaps this should serve as a salutary lesson for the owner? Return it, along with information about your preferred cloud storage options.

Used it a while back in a school with serious discipline problems. Immediately saw the benefit, although the kids became rowdy because they couldn't get away with being off task! Compared to other classroom management products its streets ahead - centralised management of the PCs, rooms and staff users makes it so much more reliable. (Used NetSupport in a previous school - ended up with a raft of policies making it communicate on a different port for each room just so the connected PCs didn't follow the teacher to the wrong suite). All the bells and whistles seem to work well, including the power management which is one argument for justifying the cost - "Look at the potential power savings!". The staff really like the instant alerts if the kids try blocked activities (no sitting staring at 30 thumbnails). If you need classroom management software, and want some simple network management tools then all you have to do is justify the cost, which is also streets ahead of rivals!

If you're employed by the school, the site team/caretakers or Bursar/business manager should be able to tell you everything you need - ladder training, confirmation of their insurance etc. to cover their liabilities as your employer. If you're an external contractor you'll need liability insurance (our cover is < £5m) and various bits of paperwork (H&S assessment, scope of work, access to schools asbestos register etc.) - again, bursar or caretakers should be able to tell you everything they need. After that, if you want to guarantee your work you'll need a half decent fluke tester. Bigger companies will offer 25yr guarentees, but the kit needed for that level of certification is pricey. Add a decent drill and a cheap face mask (loft insulation particles are unpleasant in the throat) and you're pretty much good to go!

Would help to know if you're VMware, HyperV or Xen or something less obvious. Assuming you have enough hardware resources (CPUs, RAM and storage) and the licensing available, you can set up as many servers as you feel you need. I tend to split roles out to individual servers. You should have a Golden Image - a ready to go image of a server that you pull onto a new VM configuration when you set it up. When I had a VMware setup it took all of 5 mins to have a new server up and running, and most of that time was the system creating the new VHD. The wizard process gives you the opportunity to change the name and the IP address.
