BHMS Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 The extra ram on the R6950 would give you ultra textures in BF3 and probably more games in the future so id go with that. 1GB isn't enough on my pretty recent 560ti purchase 1

3s-gtech Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Same vote here - if it was 6870 vs 560Ti it would be a different answer. Seems that the 2GB has limited benefits over the 1GB, but the 6950 is a smidge faster either way.

Yes, you can turn it into a 6970 by flashing the one of the dual BIOS. A simple flick switch will knock you back down onto the original firmware should things go wrong. Admittedly I haven't played any recent games for a good few months, but I'm yet to here the fans spool up in my 6950 - everything I have played I have played at 1920x1200 @ ultra high settings.

Im 99% sure you cant do that on these ones, only the standard ones. I got 2 MSI6950 reference cards which had the dual bios so it was no problem, but as the Twin Frozr isnt reference, im not sure if you can flash them (I believe the dual bios isnt there?) I could be wrong, definitely worth a bit of research if you want to go down this route. My choice would be (and was!) the 6950. Cracking cards! 1

As for drivers, the development team have at least been pretty hot recently on patching for issues. Lots of driver releases to help

If it cant fit it into memory it cant shift it in and out of 1Gb ram fast enough, hence the glitching. So not as much room for error when flashing. I like AMD (ATI) stuff, we have a huge number of Radeon 9600s still doing good work here, and now a number of 5570s. Several machines with integrated 3200/4250 too. No problems at all. The Nvidia stuff is alright, but we have some FX3500s that run like leaf blowers on idle, and the Nvidia 9400 integrated chipset in our Acer X270s and iMacs is poo.
