witch Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 On my driveway is a 1989 Austin Mini Mayfair with no engine in it. The engine is in the garden, well covered up. The backstory? Son bought it to do up during his gap year but couldnt get a full-time job so never did it. Other son got engine out and replaced gasket (mini was leaking oil when bought). That's as far as it went. The engine turns over and seems OK. The car is in fairly good nick - except for the tyres now. He is looking for about £550 for it I know not many of you live down this way but there might be an enthusiast you know who could be interested?

witch Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 We have looked at specialist car auctions but we would have to get it there and we have no way of doing that. ebay is a possibility but he wants to avoid paying out any money if possible

The engine had to come out because the oil leak was somewhere at the bottom and just couldnt be reached. plexer Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 A show of the bottom of the sils would be a good shot as well for anyone interested in it allthough from the lack of rust elsewhere they're probably fine. Also any in the footwells under the floor mats if any are fitted? Ben
TechSupp Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Wish I lived closer, first car was a mini, red like that but an S reg (78' I think). Would have loved to 'tinker' again. Wheels should bring a bit if you split it would have thought.
witch Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 not much rust on the sills (and I know what it looks like as I used to have an 18 year old mini!) Ditto floor pan. It was in amazing nick when he got it - just the bumpers have gone to pot - and even having stood outside for 18 months it really doesnt look any different. It has been in the lee of the house protected by the house next door and a tall fence on two sides as well
3s-gtech Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Best photos for bodyshell are: Scuttle panel at base of windscreen A pillars Inner and outer sills Inside the boot either side Floor pan From the sounds of it though, this is a bargain - would be a lot of work to get it on the road again but they're still a great first car, insurance should be cheap. Mine was £115 a year at 17 (several years ago mind!)

Or any advice where to put it to sell gratefully received *actually, unless it has deteriorated terribly, it wouldnt be that much work to get it back on the road as long as the engine leak is fixed. New brake pipes, tyres, maybe some pipes - not too much....really......bargain????
